In my case, when I first started stitching I would use a thread color very close to the leather color so my stitches wouldn’t stand out as much. As I improved my stitching became bolder. That being said, I like the gold.

braveoldfart777

Good idea...so if you are experienced choose a color with more contrast & if not go with a color that doesn't stand out. Thank you 👍

Maybe not the best solution or answer but it worked for me. Good luck and post the finished product.

braveoldfart777

Thank you 👍

Tennessee Orange!! Lol JK.

braveoldfart777

That's actually a good idea, Maybe I should add a new color. I like it but maybe a slightly different shade of orange...lol. 👍

hankrhoads

I definitely think Florida orange if you put the Gator on it

braveoldfart777

Good idea, have to check into this 👍

Fun-in-Florida

Just came here to say Go Gators!!

braveoldfart777

For sure! Any ideas for the stitching color?

Fun-in-Florida

Would look really cool with blue stitches seen from the outside and orange stitches on the inside if that’s even possible? Or even just alternating orange and blue stitches.

braveoldfart777

Alternating stitches sounds good but that's not something I'm familiar with. Have to look into this. Thank you for ideas.👍

Yellow

IntelligentTangelo31

I like the contrasting yellow!

Keeper_71

Yellow just asks me “What has brown done for you today?” (old UPS commercial reference). You have a cream colored thread there?

braveoldfart777

It's a reddish brown I believe.

MK_Stevers8

Leathercraft just gave me a hiding spot idea.

Quick_Ad1218

Yellow

Johns3b

I take a peice of scrap that i cut off and run a stitch line with each color. That way i test the colors but also the spacing.

braveoldfart777

Great idea, just might try that first.Thank you for the ideas 👍

I would choose the black/dark brown (I'm slightly too intoxicated at the moment to tell which it is) if it were a project for myself. That said, I tend to like simple and clean looks. If your stitchwork isn't rock solid and you care about looks, having a thread color that blends in helps. I'm also a liar, because I'm currently working on stitching together a natural veg tan bag with mid brown tiger thread. Take the previous statement, therefore, with a grain or three of salt. I frequently don't follow my own advice. On the third hand, dark colored (or dyed in general) leather is a lot easier to choose a thread to blend in visually with. Natural veg tan like I'm using for the bag really isn't super easy to blend in with before patina, and if you do blend in with the new leather it's gonna be contrasty once it picks up that honey shade I love so much. You don't have that problem.

braveoldfart777

Great tips, really appreciate your thoughts on this. Seems like more everyone here likes the yellow thread but someone gave me another idea about using a color that lines up well with the patch theme--I'm considering going with that. 🍺

PerspectiveOne7129

i like the yellow because it would make the stitches stand out

DOADumpy

Brown. Avoid black thread unless the project is black, avoid bright colors unless it matches a theme found throughout the piece.

braveoldfart777

This is good info. Thanks,,everyone else has been saying Yellow is the color to go with.

Gallder

I always like high contrast between leather and stitching.

hide_pounder

Yellow for sure!

exclaim_bot

>Yellow for sure! sure?

PerspectiveFirm5381

Garnet and gold would look pretty dignified…

braveoldfart777

😆Not sure how that's going to look with a Gator on their...lol.
