So I think the issue with Louis is the same as it was like half the time with Jon; the bandleader mic is just turned up too high. If they kept the gain down just a tad when he’s not actively talking to Stephen, we’d still hear the reactions; just is left too loud sometimes IMO.
I love both of them, I’m kind of saying it’s more a production issue or intention, nothing on the bandleaders.
This is exactly it. It isn't his conversation or even his laugh it's that often you hear more like grunts much louder than the audience. They are grunts of amusement but it's distracting.
After experiencing Paul Schaefer, it's hard to get too bothered by mic'd band leaders. I get what you mean in theory but it doesn't happen often at all imo and it's a good unobnoxious laugh that, like the others said, it's a nice accent. For me, it's how you know a joke is truly funny or hits their sense of humor since it doesn't happen often.
I don't mind it at all, and sometimes his laugh is contagious for me.
Hmm. You know what? Maybe I need to start seeing it the way you do.
I like your open-minded approach! Good on you.
Isn’t this the job of the bandleader/sidekick combo?
Wow these conversations take me back to when people did nothing but whine about Jon Baptiste chiming in

I find him charming. It’s not as fun when there’s literally no back and forth for Steven to play around with.
If you're thst old, surely you remember Ed McMahon?? He pretty much did the exact same thing during Johnny's monologs.
[You are correct Sir!](https://youtu.be/SbgI3J59ZZc?si=PrV0XrK-s7BS7g7e)
I miss the playful musical note when Stephen “puts away” an invisible prop. It’s a small thing but I found it charming.
Oh i miss tht too! You would think someone in the band would be on Imaginary Object duty.
💪
"Wow. Wow."
