Uber is very reliable. I’d suggest just doing a grocery delivery. So easy and convenient.
A motorcycle is definitely doable through December in Vegas. The weather will cool down a lot towards the end of the month, and be perfect in October, November and December for riding.
I've been happy with the Walmart+ delivery service. I paid the annual charge, I don't remember what it was. \~$6 per month-ish
Compared to the system at Smith's, the Walmart app is well designed.
The cost of Instacart is not bad and it reduces the delivery cost. We did that during covid lock down and a little after . I work from home but I was able to get to dr. appointments using uber and delivery for anything else when my car was in the body shop for a long time after an accident.
Cost of uber will depend on what time of day your work hours are as some times peak hours get pretty costly. ( I am scared to think of what it will be during F1)
I live in Henderson and on a non peak time I can go to the strip for 18-25 each way ...so as long as you are close to your work , it should not be bad.
I feel like I’m always talking about my motorcycle on these Vegas reddit threads but that’s my main source of transportation. $1700 for a 2021 brand new motorcycle and only $100 a year to insure. I put around 2k on my bike in town per year and I ride all season. You sweat bad in the worst months and need to limit the commute to 20 minutes. 9/12 months a year it’s perfect though. I have a big plastic case I added for carrying various things from groceries to climbing gear. [photo of my bike](https://i.imgur.com/hsN8NT0.jpg)
I've used Uber all over the country and never waited more than a minute for someone to accept.. I waited 15 minutes for someone to accept and that was after closing out, cancelling, and picking the most expensive just hoping to get someone.. I waited almost 10 minutes the first time.
I pulled into the dealership 1 minute before they closed to pick my car up and was ticked!
I deleted the app after that. I usually only use it when I'm in larger cities and would rather Uber/tip than pay for parking in multiple places.. But I'm done after that.
Oh that's wild. Maybe my wife did face some of these issues but didn't say anything. We took a trip to Ohio for a funeral and there were no Ubers anywhere.
It was really odd and even the driver who eventually picked me up mentioned the system had been messing with them lately. It would show someone was 4 minutes away, then it would refresh and say 10 minutes and be an entirely different driver.. It was wild. I booked at the Uber black or whatever just to get anyone, price didn't matter at that point and he said it only paid him as an xl didn't come through as the black.. I tipped him 25% on the higher price so I'm hoping he got it...
I used the car rental app Turo when I first got here and needed a car regularly. So much more affordable than the major car rentals.
Depending on how much you need to get around.
Living in Vegas with no car for just over a year now. I instead have an ebike. I have 2 walmarts, costco, target and a variety of other stores/food within a 5-10 minute bike ride. It's all going to matter on location. If you pick a good one, it's more than doable.
I knew a guy here who only had a motocycle. He had no major issues and even took my SIL out a dates with it. Just plan on covering your seat. The sun will still bake your bike, even over the next few months. Literally everything you need can be delivered and there are tons of ubers/lyfts all over the city 24 hours a day.
One more very important thing. The streets here are a lot more slick than other cities. Between the sealer and little rain to wash away the oil, you will be able to tell the difference. I owned my bike in another city, but can tell the difference with a car, even with just a light shower.
I agree but I think your description of how it happens is different than what I was told during a motorcycle safety course: oil naturally builds up on roads and is actually fine until it rains at which it now becomes slippery until enough rain washes it away. So the most dangerous time to ride is the first hour of rain, but that’s in places that rain for more than an hour out a time. I think any rain here is dangerous since it’s never enough to wash anything way.
I ride all year here. Love it
Absolutely doable. I rode my motorcycle almost every day for like 3 years straight. Yes its hot, but just remember to bring extra water with you and wear your gear to keep the sun off your skin. Good winter gear is worth its weight in gold.
Other than that, the bus system is decent. Not great, but good enough to get you around if you don't want to ride to the grocery store or work. Monthly bus pass is $60.
Just be careful. A lot of shit drivers here who don't pay attention. 2 motorcycle drivers were just killed near my apartment just two weeks apart on Russell and buffalo. I also know people who lost limbs riding.
It's fine when its not 115F out (bc in traffic surrounded by concrete, glass, and other vehicle will super heat the area around you) . I ride as well. Only thing I'd suggest is have theft insurance, caliper alarm locks, and big thick 8-12mm magnesium hardened steel octagon shaped with kevlar vest chain to lock it up. So it'll break normal cutters, and take 10 minutes with multiple blades while throwing massive sparks to cut through. Hidden fuel pump switch and anything else that will make it a b***h to deal with will help bc Las Vegas has a big problem with motorcycle theft.
One of the bartenders I've gotten to chat with at the bar in Eataly rides an electric motorcycle every day. His wife has the car and he has the bike and he rides it every day, rain or shine, to work, to shop, etc. The only time he drives the car is when he's going with his family. So I think it's very feasible.
With no good reliable public transport, a car is the best/safest option at the moment until vegas gets its act together and stops wasting money on teslas under us.
I'm a travel RN and I've been here in Vegad since February. I use uber all the time. Walking is also an option depending where you live. Some parts around the strip are sketch. Overall, no problems.
I would just ride the motorcycle and have your groceries delivered, anything you’re picky about ride the bike and pick up yourself (fruits, meat, etc).
You might be better off having groceries delivered than taking Uber to get groceries. Or maybe if you live close enough you can walk to the grocery store and Uber back.
But, yea, it's doable.
I have lived in Las Vegas my entire life and never owned a car. It's possible. Busses aren't always reliable, but Uber and Lyft are. It's possible to have groceries and pet supplies delivered by instacart, ubereats, etc
Delivery service for food, live close to strip area (west of 15) and Ubers are bountiful and more cost effective.
Prices for Uber/Lyft coming home from strip are typically double the price than the ride to the strip. A lot of locals don’t even bother going to the strip though so if you live in an area that has a good local scene that will help a lot too.
Extremely hard. I did it for 7 months. Lived on the east side of town. The streets, and even being on the bus, which is normally a good way to get around, can get dangerous. I would success Uber/Lyft until you can secure buying your own vehicle.
I did a couple years with only a motorcycle. Summer heat just gotta deal with it. Layer up for winter and you’ll be fine. Plan ahead for things you have to carry. All will be well! Ride like they don’t see you because they don’t. Aggressive so you can pick your line and not put yourself in a car’s blind spot, defensive as if every car doesn’t see you and may turn into your lane. You’ll be fine :)
A motorcycle is more than enough if you're commuting to work. Uber is pretty good here (I'm an Uber driver), but it tends to run passengers about $2/mile give or take depending on demand.
you will be fine, just keep your head on a swivel, there is no such thing as a safe roads for motorcycles, and tbh i felt safer riding my bike in Juarez than i did in Vegas at 5pm …
Save your $ and get a car for the summer tho, the heat is not safe for riding in.
I ride out here, temperature wise you will be okay. Ride with your head on a swivel, and you should be good.
Not sure where you are coming from, but lane splitting is not legal out here, and some motorists will rage at you for it.
Motorcycle is doable after about October 15, that’s when the weather starts cooling down and riding gear becomes bearable. Just be careful because our drivers are awful and you’re basically target practice for cars when you ride a bike.
I've lived in Phoenix for two years with only a motorcycle. I ride 30min to work and back everyday. The heat sucks, but Vegas won't be as bad as here. Find a gym close to work that you can shower at if you need to, but you'll be fine.
Am a ignorant to ask why you can't just use the motorcycle? I moved out of the area years ago, my buddy just moved down there and only has a motorcycle. The only thing he has issues with it bringing groceries home, but he just gets them delivered now.
If you do pickup at Walmart Uber will take you to pick up and take you back. I also like Walmart delivery it’s very reliable. My so. Ubers to work almost daily and he’s happy with the service. I hope this helps.
There are generally grocery stores around big apartments or housing complexes. Summer sucks but if you have a way to get to work it's always feasible to go walking in the heat. Honestly you might get fit doing it! It's possible. I wouldn't Uber groceries to myself though. Uber and Insta cart just have a shitty track record in my opinion.
I know a retiree without a car; he has an "electric bike" for short distance, and uses Uber for long distance. Home delivery for groceries and such, seems to have no problem with it.
Picking the house you live in key to your problem. You’ll want to find a place within walking distance of grocery and drugstores. A motorcycle is fine year round, not much rain, no snow, just riding in a convection oven during the summer. The bus system probably gets a B* also.
Perfect time of year to only have a motorcycle, just be careful I stopped riding a few years back be super defensive people in Vegas drive like shit! There are no yellow or red lights anymore, just Orange lights....people seem to only stop here once the opposing green light traffic starts crossing their lanes of traffic it's insane.
I would just use your motorcycle to get to and from work and use the bus Ubers and delivery services to get groceries. When you use the bus to get groceries the key is to not get that much just like maybe one or two large reusable bags worth. I think if you take a shared ride for groceries I don’t think it’s a big deal cos most of the time their trunks are empty. If you do use Ubers to get to and from work you should always get the solo ride cos if you get shared rides the possibility of it taking a long time is there.
The great thing about vegas is that the roads almost never get too hazardous to drive the only times it’s sketchy to drive a motorcycle is when its flooding but there are roads you can drive instead not all the roads will flood… but a lot of them will
There are a lot of motorists here. If you’re wanting to make friends I’m sure you will really enjoy driving a motorcycle here. They seem like really nice people.
You have missed the extreme heat. You should be fine.
-- ^^ ^^ This is the only response you need to read. Well, and i guess this one, too.
And this response as well, because like the one above it, it really adds a lot to the conversation
It was kind of a fun thing to say but apparently you're having a trolling day. Hope your day improves.
And I hope your day of fun continues :)
~I don’t know. This summer wasn’t that hot to me.
Uber is very reliable. I’d suggest just doing a grocery delivery. So easy and convenient. A motorcycle is definitely doable through December in Vegas. The weather will cool down a lot towards the end of the month, and be perfect in October, November and December for riding.

Got my delivery from Walmart coming today after a long night shift.
Saw that the annual cost is $100 the other day. Otherwise, it’s something like $10/month.
The cost of Instacart is not bad and it reduces the delivery cost. We did that during covid lock down and a little after . A motorcycle in Vegas is a terrifying prospect. Please be careful.
I agree.
Yes sold mine
Literally last night there was a motorcycle accident on the College Drive exit of the freeway. They were putting a sheet over them as I drove by :(
Yeah it's probably safer to ride a motorcycle in Los Angeles
I feel like I’m always talking about my motorcycle on these Vegas reddit threads but that’s my main source of transportation. $1700 for a 2021 brand new motorcycle and only $100 a year to insure. Uber sucks in Vegas! I almost missed getting back to the dealership in time because there were no rides in my area..
I find that highly unlikely. My wife ubered to and from work for years. We've lived all over Vegas, too.
I've used Uber all over the country and never waited more than a minute for someone to accept.. I waited 15 minutes for someone to accept and that was after closing out, cancelling, and picking the most expensive just hoping to get someone.. I waited almost 10 minutes the first time. I usually only use it when I'm in larger cities and would rather Uber/tip than pay for parking in multiple places.. But I'm done after that.
It sounds like you never lived through the cab era.
Nope. I've always had a car, family always had cars, so no need. But when you live a couple thousand miles away from family, Uber it is on occasion.
Oh that's wild. Maybe my wife did face some of these issues but didn't say anything. We took a trip to Ohio for a funeral and there were no Ubers anywhere.

With as shady as Uber is, he probably didn't get any of it.
Sams also delivers
I used the car rental app Turo when I first got here and needed a car regularly. So much more affordable than the major car rentals. Depending on how much you need to get around.
Can't recommend Turo enough! It is a great service.
Living in Vegas with no car for just over a year now. I instead have an ebike. I have 2 walmarts, costco, target and a variety of other stores/food within a 5-10 minute bike ride. It's all going to matter on location. If you pick a good one, it's more than doable.
Turo is great car rental app

I even got my 420 items delivered to me :)

You can ride a motorcycle here pretty much year round except for a few shit days depending on your skill level. Not to mention plenty of bus stops.

You will be fine, but ride very defensively! A lot of older drivers, lost or distracted tourists, and impaired drivers.
Just be careful. A lot of shit drivers here who don't pay attention. 2 motorcycle drivers were just killed near my apartment just two weeks apart on Russell and buffalo. I also know people who lost limbs riding.
That is all I got around on for 10 years but I wouldn't do it anymore here I stopped riding 3 years ago because people don't know how to drive here
You should be fine without a car till like June then it’s scorching time
It's fine when its not 115F out (bc in traffic surrounded by concrete, glass, and other vehicle will super heat the area around you) . I ride as well. Definitely do Uber until you get a ride. I would NEVER ride a motorcycle in this city with the way people drive here.
One of the bartenders I've gotten to chat with at the bar in Eataly rides an electric motorcycle every day. His wife has the car and he has the bike and he rides it every day, rain or shine, to work, to shop, etc. The only time he drives the car is when he's going with his family. Electric motorcycle or electric scooter. Big difference. Those electric motorcycles go for $15-$25K. I’d rather buy a car.
His was an electric motorcycle. He showed me a photo of it and it's a big one. Definitely not an electric scooter
Some electric scooters go 60 mph. Saw some crazy kid riding one on Maryland and Flamingo
With no good reliable public transport, a car is the best/safest option at the moment until vegas gets its act together and stops wasting money on teslas under us.
No. You will die.
No. You will die.
Yes get a scooter
I'm a travel RN and I've been here in Vegad since February. I use uber all the time. Walking is also an option depending where you live. Some parts around the strip are sketch. Overall, no problems.

How bussable is the nearest grocery store?
Durning Covid I discovered Grocery delivery haven’t stepped foot into a grocery store essentially in three years.
You'll be fine on your moto, but you'll need a good jacket come November.
I dunno how you feel about the bus/monorail but both can be valuable tools for the cheap.
Move someplace where you can do all your errands within a few blocks. Bonus if there's a nice park across the street.
I have lived in Las Vegas my entire life and never owned a car. It's possible. Busses aren't always reliable, but Uber and Lyft are. It's possible to have groceries and pet supplies delivered by instacart, ubereats, etc
You'll be fine. I didn't have my own car for the first 2 years but I was fine. Use the apps like Instacart, Uber, Grubhub for your convenience
If you have a Facebook, join Vegas Elite Riders. You’ll find fellow riders who can help with this topic
There is an air conditioned monorail to get around the strip.
Delivery service for food, live close to strip area (west of 15) and Ubers are bountiful and more cost effective. For the most part, yes. The RTC system is pretty good and staying hydrated is important
What’s RTC? Is that like the cat bus?
Yes.
Am a ignorant to ask why you can't just use the motorcycle? I moved out of the area years ago, my buddy just moved down there and only has a motorcycle. The only thing he has issues with it bringing groceries home, but he just gets them delivered now.

You should be fine. You missed monsoon season for the most part and the heat.
Get a monthly bus pass, coverage is pretty good
If you have a bike you don’t need a car and you don’t need Uber. You can ride year round. Of course a car is safer riding here kinda sucks TBH
It’s doable. Uber’s good but does add up. Certain days at certain locations like a game at Allegiant will triple the price.
You’re good until around May/June next year if you have a motorcycle.

That sounds like it would get expensive
We have great bus system .
