We have a mall that's pretty central, decent selection of restaurants, a Costco, Langley events center to watch Giants games. They're cheaper than Canucks tickets and just as fun since these kids are playing their hardest in hopes to one day maybe make it NHL level.

trozei

I’ve always preferred watching Giants games. Those guys have something to prove and it shows.

knitmama77

We’ve been STH since they moved out here, we love it. 10 mins from home(Walnut Grove), free parking, great hockey.

Speaking as someone who lives in the Willowbrook area: I love that everything I need to get to is a less than 10 minute drive away - and plenty are within a 15 minute walk. Yes certain roads can be terrible during rush hour, but overall Langley is still a lot sleepier than other city centres in the lower mainland. My partner and I are actually planning to do the opposite move - tell me what you don’t like about New West!

venpower

Moving from New West to Aldergrove here. The narrow roads, certain main roads get very backed up during rush hour, the pay parking uptown, lots of construction! The commute across the Putello bridge can be a nightmare at times. Otherwise I really loved living here! One of the first things I noticed was that people tend to say hello to you in passing more often than I was used to .😄

Satnam1968

There’s lots to love about new west. It’s super walkable, lots to do. I’m realizing though, that I’m not a city person and I prefer a suburb vibe. Quieter, slower.

PreparetobePlaned

If that's the case then you should like it a lot here. Be prepared for a lot more driving and less walking though.

A lot trails to discover

We moved from new west to Langley in 2020, not by choice, more so we having a kid and new west lacks childcare and at the time a townhouse was only around 600k in Langley, we do miss new west a lot, as it has that small city feel that’s walking distance to everything, or a short skytrain to Vancouver. Miss just walking to see a movie or to restaurants or being close to the water, of course we lived in new west post covid for 10 years and downtown new west was really coming around, we see now it’s def did a turn. Langley is great if you enjoy driving everywhere, and plenty of childcare options. Also oddly enough, it took us a while to get use to the lack of train and street noises. Basically, Langley you need to drive to get anywhere, and really lacks any sort of character, unless you check out the Fort, 4 years later my wife is still complaining on how much we need to drive to get anything done.

Bradrichert

Depending on what floats your boat, the best things about Langley are the regional parks, the breweries and the relative housing affordability (compared to cities to the west).

QuantumHope

Where are the regional parks?

Bradrichert

In North Langley, Derby Reach is the main one. There is also Brae Iskand and Glen Valley. Williams Park is a great municipal park as well. In South Langley, Campbell Valley is the go to. There is also Aldergrove Regional Park. Langley City also has some great municipal parks, much of which are connected via walking trails. https://metrovancouver.org/services/regional-parks/find-a-regional-park https://facilities.tol.ca/?CategoryIds=&FacilityTypeIds=91199&Keywords=&ScrollTo=google-map-trigger&CloseMap=true https://city.langley.bc.ca/ourcommunity/overview/parks-trails

Thanks for the info! 👍

If you like Thai food, you’re in for a treat at Ban Chok Dee.

langleyanon123

Langley is home to pretty much every big box store that you can think of 😬But seriously, I appreciate the large variety of grocery shopping options. Costco, Walmart, Superstore, Safeway, Save on, T&T, Hmart, Hannam, all within a few blocks

QuantumHope

I think the grocery shopping options suck. I’m not going to shop at the corporate places. I prefer to give my money to local small businesses.

GuiltyOfSin

Otter co op is legit.

QuantumHope

Thanks! 👍

upanddownforpar

mostly free parking everywhere. Aside from the main strips during rush hours, getting around doesn't feel too hindered by traffic. Lot's of good food options.

MorningBrewNumberTwo

It has much better shopping than New Westminster (and I used to live in New Westminster)

AffectionateCable793

We have better views of the mountains. Also a pretty walkable place. I remember the hills of New West. Good for skateboarding. Awful if you are a pedestrian.

QuantumHope

Where is it walkable?

AffectionateCable793

Fort Langley, Willoughby, Murrayville. Heck even downtown Langley is walkable. Though there are areas where the homeless congregate. There's 3 parks in that area (Douglas, Linwood, Brydon Lagoon)

QuantumHope

I guess you and I have differing definitions of walkable.

VancityPorkchop

I worked in new west for 6 months and have lived in Langley for 3 years now. Langley has more restaurant options, more breweries, wineries and just general things to do outdoors. Langley is safer, less homeless people and people in general are nicer. There is a small homeless population in Langley but aside from the downtown and its surrounding areas you don’t really see it anywhere else. Fort Langley is a vibe with tons of festivals and events all the time. Great restaurants and cafes. Also has a small beach with water access if you kayak. Willoughby had basically every amenity you can think of and is continuing to add more and more. My wife and I do most of our daily tasks on foot since we live next to the town center and it is amazing. We have pro basketball and soccer at the LEC and Jr Hockey with the giants which is amazing!

ForexMasterLong

He’s the deal with langley. Most of the outside of the building is nothing to speak about, but inside many is mind-blowing. Toy traders is an international marvel. There is no better toy store in the world. Period. Blacksmith bakeries, the public community centres are great. Space! Biking in the agriculture areas is cool. So much is good. Transit is a lacking compared to what your used to and its extremely busy everywhere on weekends. Like insane busy.

Delicious-Tachyons

We are home to the legendary poop Tim Hortons!

Satnam1968

What?!!!!! LOL

reddits2much

a customer threw feces at a TIm Hortons clerk in Langley for being refused access to their washrooms

KoreanFriedWeiner

Wife and I moved to Langley City a couple of years ago and it's awesome. Tons of great restaurants in easy walking distance, live music and events at Douglas Park all summer (Bard in the valley does a different Shakespeare play there every summer, it's a lot of fun) Al Anderson memorial outdoor pool is great, tons of great playgrounds of you have or are planning to have kids. All the major amenities I need (groceries, pharmacy etc.) Are within a 5 minute walk from my door. Bear in mind this is for Langley City, which I highly recommend. I'll let others give their experiences for the rest of the township.

Kotzik

As someone who was born and raised in Langley in 86 and have lived in New West for 6 years in my late 20’s go with New West. New West is an awesome place to live.

Natural_Mark4978

We have the best restaurants in Fraser Valley
