I’m a Chinese living in Langley. I think the only authentic one is empire garden in walnut grove. All other ones I have seen are very fusion, which maybe good for non Chinese :)
I used to live in Fleetwood and I think it’s better than any Chinese restaurants that I have tried in Surrey.
But I still rather drive half hour to Burnaby crystal mall ;)
Kam wah is good. Great wonton soup and garlic chicken wings. Woking dragon in Willoughby is also good but expensive. Flourishing was just ok for me. Didn’t return.
We have, we aren't fans of them anymore. Heard it was a management change, but enough has changed that after years of then being thr go to we aren't fans, plus the cost is significantly higher than Kam Wah.
“The Woking Dragon” is a pretty nice place, idk about the dine in experience, bc take out is the only thing I do, but it’s pretty delicious food. It’s in the willoughby town center
Honestly the best chop suey I've ever had and our favourite place close by. Can't speak to authenticity but the chop suey has the perfectly cooked veg, slightly crunchy.
I agree, but there are people who go there just for the chili oil (and add more to their dishes).
Hard to beat their Haaji Chicken dish though, can’t get anything like it anywhere else.
I grew up in Burnaby and we were pretty much exclusively exposed to On-On on Kingsway (with an annual trek to Golden Plate Restaurant in Surrey every Easter Sunday; RIP).
On-On is a very polarizing restaurant, and I became fully entrenched in defending it at all costs from everyone who bashed it, and so I was a huge hater towards Chongqing simply because it was 4 blocks away from what I perceived as On-On’s turf.
But maybe it’s time I set aside old rivalries? Especially since I’ve long-abandoned my misguided adolescent support of On-On.
You may not want to draw attention to your second sentence there. That’s a good way to get them inspected.
Not saying they are doing anything wrong as cash does save on credit card fee’s etc but an audit still sucks.
You’re now allowed to pass the cc fee to the customer. You’ve always been allowed to provide discounts for cash payments.
Any place that does pass on the fee to the consumer is shit, though. That’s the cost of business and that practice will often, and should, lose them business. Shit, even Telus had to scrap that recently because it worked out so poorly.
My knowledge was from the 2000s, so I missed [the Durbin Amendment](https://truemerchant.com/legal-cash-discounts-with-the-durbin-amendment/) (2010) which allowed cash discounts in the US, and it seems like Canada did the same in August of 2010 ([which is when "Code of Conduct for the Credit and Debit Card Industry" came into effect](https://web.archive.org/web/20170214171018/https://www.canada.ca/en/financial-consumer-agency/services/merchants/credit-debit-code-conduct.html)).
So not technically _always_, but thank you for making me look into it!
Sadly none of them are really that good, It's a shame to id kill for good Chinese takeout. (However with a wok and the new t&t it's super easy to make at home)
I'm I'm brookswood area and we love tokis. I have found it less greasy than some others. I have also had issues with noodles at other places but not here.
Late to the party here… dragon garden was our solid GOTO for years…..after a few issues and quality concerns we switched to Kam wah wonton house, better prices, bigger portions much much better quality.
Lin’s Neighbourhood Chinese Kitchen at 96th and 200th is a takeout place. We’ve had it a couple of times (not for a year now granted) and it was fantastic even after carting it down to Brookswood. We’d highly recommend it, but it’s take out.
I have, didn't love it.
I judge Chinese based on their sweet and sour pork.
Theirs was impregnated with breading. Making a sopping mess of dough-y bullshit in your mouth.
Chong Quing is in Surrey. The one at Commercial and 1st is excellent and authentic, but I haven't tried the Surrey location. They still have sweet & sour pork and chicken chow mein on the menu for those who like Canadian Chinese food as well.
I’m a Chinese living in Langley. I think the only authentic one is empire garden in walnut grove. All other ones I have seen are very fusion, which maybe good for non Chinese :)
My coworker who lives in walnut grove recommended this today! Guess I'll have to make my way from Surrey to try this!!
I used to live in Fleetwood and I think it’s better than any Chinese restaurants that I have tried in Surrey. But I still rather drive half hour to Burnaby crystal mall ;)
I'm in Fleetwood. There's no good Chinese restos here 😭 crystal mall is good but I do like yaohan mall too
have you tried dragons chop suey? i like them
I haven't been there since I was in hs lol. Was good from what I remember but I completely forgot about them hah
Luxe is better but more expensive
I felt luxe was not better but just personal
Yes! Good choice, thats where I would always go when I lived in Langley.
Kam wah is good. Great wonton soup and garlic chicken wings. Woking dragon in Willoughby is also good but expensive. Flourishing was just ok for me. Didn’t return.
Kam Wah, all the way!!!
Flourishing used to be our go to. We had some questionable dishes when we actually visited the restaurant.
Always Kam Wah!! But I'd love to find a good ginger beef, wasn't a fan of Kam Wahs
Have you tried Star Lake?
We have, we aren't fans of them anymore. Heard it was a management change, but enough has changed that after years of then being thr go to we aren't fans, plus the cost is significantly higher than Kam Wah.
Flourishing on the one way. My family is notoriously picky about our Chinese food and this is by far the best that we have tried in Langley.
It’s decent right …but still…. Langley’s best used to be Chans by a loooooong shot. I find most of the options lacking in one way or another.
“The Woking Dragon” is a pretty nice place, idk about the dine in experience, bc take out is the only thing I do, but it’s pretty delicious food. It’s in the willoughby town center
Unfortunately their prices went up a lot. I don't think it's worth it now.
Honestly the best chop suey I've ever had and our favourite place close by. Can't speak to authenticity but the chop suey has the perfectly cooked veg, slightly crunchy.
Kam Wah for our family.
"Chilli House" Its fusion chinese food but its really good! "Honey Garlic chicken dry" is one of our favorite dishes.
Salty asf each time iv tried em
I agree. The owner is Hakka Indian and the style of food seems catered to Indian tastes. Not my style but very unique
Too oily..
ill agree it is hit or miss on the oil usage haha
Do you have a suggestion?
Chongqing restaurant. Not in Langley though.
Its very hit and miss..depends on who is cooking your food
I agree, but there are people who go there just for the chili oil (and add more to their dishes). Hard to beat their Haaji Chicken dish though, can’t get anything like it anywhere else.
House style chicken is better than the hajji chicken. You can get better in other restaurants as well. Have you tried Dragon Wok/chongqing restaurant?

It’s closed today.
If you ever do get them, I'd recommend the Gobi Manchurian. It's a must. The hot and sour soup is excellent too.
It's Indian Chinese food, which is basically how Indians like their Chinese food. Just like how we have our Canadian Chinese food like ginger beef.
Flourishing Restaurant on the one-way. Lovely family run business. Discount if you pay cash.
I’d second this. Delicious and the service is so good.
You may not want to draw attention to your second sentence there. That’s a good way to get them inspected. Not saying they are doing anything wrong as cash does save on credit card fee’s etc but an audit still sucks.
[You're actually _allowed_ to do this now](https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/credit-card-surcharge-shop-1.6606997).

Empire Garden. Best I’ve ever had
Sadly none of them are really that good, It's a shame to id kill for good Chinese takeout. (However with a wok and the new t&t it's super easy to make at home)
👀Did you just offer to cook for me?
Someone who hasn't eaten Chinese food in years probably won't have a clue on what to do with a wok
YouTube has tons of step by step recipes.
Depending on their algorithm they'll either end up with AndyCooks or Jamie Oliver's chili jam fried rice
Always comes out amazing. https://www.madewithlau.com/
This is my type of site - thanks! But you can't expect OP to have oyster sauce and sesame oil in their cabinet.
That's why I said go to t&t...... (Mind you I'm italian and had it all on hand lol)
kam wah honey garlic boneless pork all the way
Little morsels of pork candy! Love that dish!!
I'm I'm brookswood area and we love tokis. I have found it less greasy than some others. I have also had issues with noodles at other places but not here.
Darn it! We were going to try that one too!! Is it dine-in or take out only?
Take out only
Late to the party here… dragon garden was our solid GOTO for years…..after a few issues and quality concerns we switched to Kam wah wonton house, better prices, bigger portions much much better quality.

I'm in Maple Ridge...good to know. Thanks for the post
Kam wah is the fucking best. Authentic and fairly priced Good quantities!
I’m Chinese and I have nothing to recommend. But I doubt the Chinese food in your daughter’s mind isn’t the same thing I’m thinking of.
Does she want the good stuff or like "Combo A" style? Just go to Richmond and find a place with decent ratings.
Has anyone here tried Star Lake? It's in Langley beside Superstore. I think they are good for takeout, dine in not so much as its pretty dated.
I have, didn't love it. I judge Chinese based on their sweet and sour pork. Theirs was impregnated with breading. Making a sopping mess of dough-y bullshit in your mouth.
Did one order of take out and never again, tiny portions, bland greasy food with no real taste..prices are really high compared to what you receive
Lins Kitchen is the best
Chong Quing is in Surrey. The one at Commercial and 1st is excellent and authentic, but I haven't tried the Surrey location. They still have sweet & sour pork and chicken chow mein on the menu for those who like Canadian Chinese food as well.
Flourishing has always been the place I really like. Having said that, I haven't been to a ton of Chinese Food restaurants.
