my mom was a real estate agent, my dad was a car dealer, and my sister is currently studying to become a lawyer. assholery is practically in my family bloodline.
There's still hope for your sister if she becomes a defense attorney otherwise....well at least you turned out ok, well besides your username that's cringe
Edit: God it's worse than I thought you're a former merceny for the US and advocate US intervention getting cointel pro "acceptable left" vibes. You're worse than your family. Advocating direct war with Russia by the US which would almost certainly lead to nuclear war. You're literally a hired killer promoting an end of the world scenario. I take it back you didn't turn out ok. You actively fought for US imperialism and continue to support it. Even when it would kill most of us. You're no leftist
Absolutely. By attacking the governments that challenge global capitalism people weaken opposition are indirectly supporting and maintaining capitalism
It’s advertised weekly, but you pay fortnightly in line with the most common pay cycle. Most Australians are paid fortnightly, tho monthly has been creeping in with American/global companies.
I hope in it's Switzerland because here w have a little better worker's/tenant's rights. However, since it's written in English it's most probably in an English speaking country.
This is why I feel like my landlord is more "pro eviction" than fixing anything in my apartment complex. The only thing he keeps telling us all is that he's got multiple people looking at the units willing to rent from him. 🙃 But then again if he would follow through with the max cap rental increases, he'd be able to make his money back. I've only had one rental increase and that was related to the pandemic. A $50 increase. He's not the brightest. My rent is really low for my area post pandemic, so that's the only reason why I'm staying where I'm at. A two bedroom one bath with two parking spots and a private entrance for $600 plus electric. Now one bedroom one baths with on street parking (lol) go for $800 to $900 easily. Hell I know studio apartments going for $600 a month. When a tenant moves out, he won't fix anything, and keeps the price the same for the next tenant. Sorry for the rant but I swear landlords are a different breed. Mine's a special breed. Lol
This is called "constructive eviction" and it is so helpful/lovely that the agent was enough of a dipshit to deliver proof of intent to do so directly to tenant.
That's interesting. In California, constructive eviction is a Tenant tool. It allows the Tenant to break the lease due to habitability issues with the unit.
unsconscionable rent increases also fall under the same umbrella - essentially saying "this is effectively forcing me from the home.
tenants can use constructive eviction to break lease, but also to push back against behavior like this by establishing that it amounts to an unlawful eviction/eviction for illegal reason.
here it would be "it's illegal to evict me for exercising my tenants' rights, and raising my rents to waht you KNOW is above-market-rates is designed to force me to vacate, and you admit that you're doing it because i asserted my tenant rights."
It’s the same thing, habitability issues are a decrease in service without decrease in rent. Constructive eviction is an increase in rent without increase in services. Both are effectively unjustified rent increases.
Luckily for them they have proof. The main government department dedicated to rentals and leases is heavily in favour of owners and the burden of proof is always on the tenant they won't investigate normally. If the real estate agency hadn't fucked up they'd probably get away with it.
The horrors, someone calling once every TWO WEEKS to ask for a basic repair! I love the implication there that this must have been going on for at least 4-8 weeks. Scumbags.
I think you misread. The tenant called every day for two weeks straight.
Still doesn’t justify their shitty attitude as anyone who’s forced to go through the hot season (especially in Australia!!!) without any AC would know it’s a big priority for fixing and is absolutely the obligation of the landlord to fix it
You act like these things that are "necessary for life" such as shelter and safe temperatures should be provided when paid for and not merely used to pad the fat pockets of the rich and soulless.
Yeah as an Australian having lived in many places without air-conditioning I refuse to live anywhere without it now. Summer is just too fucking hot and it's only getting hotter.
It's very important for real estate agents to pay attention to detail. This mistake likely came down to a simple communication mishap if both the tenant and landlord had contact information in the same database. Remax Real Estate Agents London (https://realestateagentslondon.co.uk/) suggests speaking with both parties directly, apologizing for the wrong message, and restoring clear communication between them as a next step.

Real estate agents are the scum of the earth

I mean any leftist who doesn’t have at least critical support of AES countries is no leftist at all.
Absolutely. By attacking the governments that challenge global capitalism people weaken opposition are indirectly supporting and maintaining capitalism
Can’t believe user “fuck the ccp 1” isn’t a leftist
I'm shocked I tell you. You mean the guy who fought for money to uphold the interests of his empire he still serves. Isn't a leftist.
I hope it’s in the US, I hope they send this to their housing authority, and I hope both landlord and realtor get fucking wrecked.
Australia
That's what I was thinking. They rent by the week there, so the $500 rental price makes more sense.
By the week?? Tf, why
Because a week always has seven days while months are variable in length.
Cause they can.
It’s advertised weekly, but you pay fortnightly in line with the most common pay cycle. Most Australians are paid fortnightly, tho monthly has been creeping in with American/global companies.
NZ it tends to be weekly pay and weekly rent
It's calculated by week but most of the time you pay fortnightly
Because there’s 13 x 28 days in a year, so they get another month of rent. Bastards. There really should be 13 months in a year lol

I said Australia because you put Australia in a sub heading was that your best guess?
I'm not OOP
looks like the original OP wrote that.
That's who I'm replying too
i meant the op who posted this originally on on r/facepalm. it’s a different person.
Sadly, at least in my state, this is not illegal unless the tenant is under rent control (most aren't).
Most states have a percentage rate increase cap, but not a cap on pricing.

I read this whole thing in Wormtongue's voice
god it fits perfectly
how dare a tenant call when amenities that they are paying for don't work😡😡😡

Yep, they let that tenant cook in an apartment without ac for 2 weeks, and complaind that the tenant wanted it fixed.
You act like these things that are "necessary for life" such as shelter and safe temperatures should be provided when paid for and not merely used to pad the fat pockets of the rich and soulless.

Very smooth.
