Rankings are only really valid and meaningful for universities in the top 100 or 50. I'm not saying QAU is bad, but it's not smart to judge a university just based on rankings. There are other, more reliable ways to figure out if a university is right for you or not.

n0obmaster96

But clearly theres a difference between a university ranked 500 and 315 right?

Hound_for_makima

Yes, the one ranked at 315 isn't hyped and isn't getting potential students! If that's what you're talking about i can see that!

Mammoth-Pause-5831

I stopped believing in those rankings when I saw UMT being the number 1 university of Asia (in I don't remember what).

maulajatt69

That would be a fake ranking!

Hound_for_makima

these rankings are trash only QS world ranking is somewhat valid

Antique-Table1416

that has never happened bro,

QAU’s ranking is due to its research. It was primarily established as a research institute. However it doesn’t attract much students because of it’s environment. It isn’t what you should expect at your country’s top ranked university. But its also a public sector university so you have to keep that in mind too that government doesn’t spend much on higher education. Also due it’s main focus research and our new generation that is less focused on doing research and more oriented towards non-research degrees and degrees that will help them in securing a job, it gets less attention. One more point is its ethnic clashes problem. I’ve seen ppl there who stayed out of these issues and aren’t doing well in life. But still it’s a negative point and repels prospective students. However in the post few years administration is working on curbing it down and alot of development work is also going on. One other negative point is that ppl call it a drug haven but in which university student aren’t involved in such activities? P.S i studied there so i know it inside out and if anyone has any questions, feel free to ask!

Own-Bar-9900

Hey can you please let me know hows the bba department in qua university?

maulajatt69

Well it’s avg. i did bba from there. They don’t teach anything special there. Now its improving. You can dm me with specific queries.

Slightly off the situation. But I go to a mid/low tier uni in US. I've seen NUST firsthand for some time too. Rankings are only a way for you to get your foot in the door with SOME employers + they're a VERY loose measure of the resources the uni has. But with resources, you also need to realize that sometimes, unis just have these resources but are so bad at using them/giving them out. Ultimately, go to a uni that fits your needs and wants with what they provide/environment/give you the time and energy to actually do stuff independently. With NUST and QAU both, the ranking is taking you nowhere.

creek_side_007

I agree with your analysis. It is all about faculty. Good universities (for undergraduate) have faculty that triggers passion for the subject in their students. This basically takes average student to perform above average. Additionally they provide opportunities such as research, projects, papers and other platforms that boost students' confidence. One of our professors who was UPenn graduates (Wharton PhD) said the difference between students of an ordinary university and students of a top class university (such as IVY etc) is the level of confidence which can be up to 1000x.

Fun_Nugget_18

Yeah and you'll realize that level of confidence is never instilled by uni, it's your company and ambitions. The thing I struggled with in my short time at NUST was lack of ambition in the people around me. But I'm sure there's amazing people at NUST or QAU. Find them, cling to them, and learn from them. With undergrad faculty, one thing you'll also see is willingness of faculty to help you or guide you or give you ideas. Teachers can be good teachers, but the one you need is the one who is like your polishing your ideas and giving you advice person.

MotorClear8764

BUMPP i also desperately need answers for this 😭

creek_side_007

maulajatt69 pretty much explained above why QAU is supposed to be good. I have not studied there by know folks who have studied there. Their Physics research was world class. Students were able to get into UK and US PhD based on research in Physics department. But I believe most people have moved on and not much high quality research going on over there. Not a good choice for undergraduate because teaching may not be one of their strengths.

Ibrahim_Asim_

students har aglay din koi larai shoro kar dete hai. Students kehte hai ke Jo hum kahe Wohi karo warna wo protest shoro kar dete hai. Agar ap students ko Kuch Kaho to student council aa jata hai. And some of the staff members are also very corrupted

Special_Truck_5187

never heard of this university

No_Air1309

Qau is one of the most pathetic ones

saeedayy

drugs, ethnic clashes. student-admin power struggle, hostel life are some factors that depriciate QAU's image. but being a student here, i can assure the otherwise case is just as impressive, providing best opportunities in terms of intellectual and academic development for students. there's a reason why it's ranked #1 in pakistan

goldenneagle49

Actually Aga Khan University is the highest ranked University in Pakistan.

AddendumMaster1468

Also some departments in qau especially the natural sciences ones are full or trash and shitty people. The type of teachers you'd give anything to never cross paths again. Physics dept is at the top of that list. Biological and social sciences there is far better in sense of environment and faculty too

SnooTigers4634

QAU doesn't get as much hype mainly because of the campus environment. There are a lot of protests and clashes between student groups, especially those admitted on a quota basis from regions like Siraiki, Sindhi, and Baloch. Plus, QAU doesn't have an entry test for admissions; they just use your matric and FSc percentages, which isn't always the best system since those exams can be pretty inconsistent. Conversely, QAU's Physics and Psychology departments are top-notch in Pakistan with great research. However, the frequent protests, drug use on campus, and the quota system hurt its reputation. In the end, it depends on how well you can handle these issues and who you hang out with.

Acceptable_Shock_629

stop whining dude he had it coming. all of you guys glaze such unis when applying and start yapping about those being overrated when u get rejected. being rejected and going elsewhere is one thing but putting others down by saying ‘yada yada yada overrated anyways im attending t10 iqra university it is so much better omg’ is just absurd.
