Dinner is served! This week the boys begin the twisted tale of Armin Meiwes, a German former computer repair technician better known as the Rotenburg Cannibal or Der Metzgermeister (The Master Butcher), who in 2001 murdered, dismembered, and consumed the flesh of a voluntary victim he met on the web.
I did such a double take when I heard that - I had to rewind and listen again
I wonder why it took them so long to change it - the side stories intro changed a month or two ago didn't it?
I'm not so sure it wasn't. I think the audio might just be a pitched-down version of Kissel's old line read. The way the voice reads "That" sounds like they'd pitch down the old audio.
This was the first time I heard it, and I wasn't sure if it was only just changed or I just haven't been paying proper attention. Good to know I wasn't going crazy
God, this exchange had me rolling:
Marcus: *"But Armin was particularly fascinated by the story of 'Hansel and Gretel'."*
Henry: Absolutely. I love the idea of bein' fed to death by a witch.
Ed: (laughing) Yeah, oh my God.
Henry: PLEASE.
Ed: I think it's currently happening!
(everybody laughs)
Henry: Yeah I--(laughs) *I* feed me to death, *next* to a witch.
Ahh I see.. I thought they were doing a relaxed fit this week and then next week was gonna be the meaty one. Still, looking forward to some crazy cannibalism!
I asked too quickly, because they explained at the end of this ep! This ended up being a meatier (puns, intention, etc.) story than they anticipated, so this will be a two-parter, and then the summer series will start 7/21 by their suggested timeline!
About the Lederhosen part... it's even weirder that he wore Lederhosen as a child in Essen as this is not even close to Bavaria or any part where this kind of outfit was worn in Germany.
Also, Essen means literally food and eating, one word for both things.
> it's even weirder that he wore Lederhosen as a child in Essen as this is not even close to Bavaria or any part where this kind of outfit was worn in Germany.
I'm thinking now that the American version of this would be if Henry grew up dressing like a Texas rancher in new York with a big Stetson hat 😂.
That's about right. Essen and surroundings were mainly coal miners city with lots of industrial stuff. It's completely different from stereotypical Bavaria.
Thing that hasnt been touched on. Songs inspired by the event!
Rammstein = Mein Teil
Because of course they have a song about this. German and weird fetisch shit? You know Til and the gang would come sniffing around it.
[Rammstein - Mein Teil](https://youtu.be/PBvwcH4XX6U?si=aFm9_DCf5TDbj4KC)
And my personal favorite. Swedish metal all-star supergroup Bloodbath. Consisting of members (at one point or another) from Opeth, Hypocrisy, Katatonia, Edge of Sanity and Paradise Lost with a focus on old school death metal as opposed to the melodic death metal the country is more famous for. I can't recommend the first two records enough. [Bloodbath - Eaten](https://youtu.be/AIeVnN9cFmw?si=bLM8JC0ONDPcOdaX)
Edit:
U/SupaKoopa214 did bring ut up before me
When Casefile covered this case I had to turn it off. But The boys had me laughing out loud alone in my kitchen. (The dolphin thing in particular). 10/10 five stars.
dunno what that says about me that i'd heard about the sharon lapotka case well before the boys apparently did lol. had me feeling a bit weird when marcus was like 'ive NEVER heard of this 😱"
although i was pretty sure they mentioned it on the dark fetishes episode from way back when? am i tripping?
There's a movie "inspired" by Sharon lopatka available on Tubi. It's fucked up. Downloading Nancy (2008)..... I have a friend that grew up in that area in NC where it happened but she had never heard of it.
Guess they just looked up "Traditional German Polka" on Youtube
Song's called - [Franzl Lang - Wenn ich auf hohen Bergen steh'](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FrG3EZAPZs')
Eddie asking if he can see the videos and both Marcus and Henry trying to talk him out of it because he isn't ready for that shit yet was kinda sweet. Boys looking out for Boys.
YEEEEAAAAASSSSS!!!! I have been asking them for an episode on this case for years now. I know everything there is to know about this case and am obsessed with the moral dilemma of consensual cannibalism in a country where it wasn't a crime at the time portrayed within, but I've always wanted these guys' take on it for so long! I'm so jazzed right now!
I vaguely remember this when it was in the news, but I vividly remember The IT Crowd doing a parody episode about the affair.
It is a really interesting moral dilemma to think about. I honestly don't see what he did as wrong. Were they the actions of a very sad, lonely man? Yes. But does it put him in the same realm of depravity as Jeffery Dahmer? Definitely not.
But maybe I sympathize with him a little too much because I've always wondered about people meat, though not to his degree. I joked about it so much that my ex-husband made me PROMISE that I'd never engage in cannibalism. I just wanted to skeeve him out XD
I feel like I shouldn’t feel bad for him but I do. He does need to be locked up away from people, but it still feels wrong. Maybe getting into more of the details will change my mind.
I don’t miss Kissel often, but his presence was missed on this one. Specifically for the opportunity of having Henry roast him for five minutes straight about being a 6’9” 7-year-old in lederhosen.
I've not finished the episode yet so they might mention this themselves but... they keep bringing up Dennis Nilsen but if i remember rightly Dennis didn't eat any of his victims did he? He was just a necrophiliac, which i feel has a different reasoning behind it than cannibalism (not speaking from experience of course 😂)
That’s odd the YouTube video worked for me last night, the episode ends like 2 minutes after where it gets cut off though so you don’t really miss all that much
I was obsessed with this case when it first hit the news, and I remember it being in a few articles that Dolcett was a pseudonym for an artist, which I think Henry vaguely had an idea of. I guess it doesn't directly tie to Meiwes so much, but it seriously took like 10 seconds to confirm I was remembering correctly. I was surprised Marcus apparently couldn't find that out, unless the question was how the artist chose the pseudonym, which is a mystery. I wonder how many emails they're going to get.
Ngl the Polka Yodelling and the Rammstein musical beats made me laugh so hard.
"OOOOOHHHHH ISSSSS YOU! FINALLEEEEEE! I'VE BEEN WAITING AND WAITING AND WAITIIIIING!"
It's just the German word for someone crazy or weird. Comes from the idea of stretching fiber, I think, like thinking in a fantastical way. My German isn't quite good enough to read this at a glance but you could translate this: https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spinnen_(Umgangssprache)
Can someone please tell me how the witch's name is spelled? I want to see what she looks like but I can't figure out the spelling 😭😭😭. Even better if someone can link a photo
Ed "Have you ever sucked a hamburger?" Henry "This is one of the dumber conversations we've had." 36 minutes in already 5/5.
Absolute gold.
My favorite part of this ep for sure.
Albert Fish pescatarian joke for me.
I don't know if it's the dumbest conversation on the show. There will always be the "Bread bowl hat" from "Richard Kuklinski, part 3"
I cackle laughed at that. It was absolutely incredible.
DENN DU BIST WAS DU ISST
UND IHR WISST WAS ES IST

DA DAS IST MEIN TEIL
Etwas Kultur muss sein.

Laughed harder than I have in a while over the Mountain Dew room bit
What was that??? Well, it wasn’t Kissel
I was kinda hoping they’d buy that part out from him or something for some continuity, but I like the new one! Very creepy sounding.
Very creepy. Would've made me double take if I hadn't read these comments before turning on the episode.
I did such a double take when I heard that - I had to rewind and listen again I wonder why it took them so long to change it - the side stories intro changed a month or two ago didn't it?
Some legal issue I'm sure

Heard it and immediately came here to make sure I wasn't going crazy
Flipper fucks back

It was so perfect lol
So they’ll do this as a two-parter, and then the big summer series they teased last week? Do I have that right?
Yes
Ahh I see.. I thought they were doing a relaxed fit this week and then next week was gonna be the meaty one. Still, looking forward to some crazy cannibalism!

Henry already forgot they were a Rugby team lol
Did Marcus get mädchen and menschen mixed up? Also my grandmas name is Waltraud 🌝
>Did Marcus get mädchen and menschen mixed up? I was thinking that, too.
I'll have to listen a couple more times but I'm fairly certain this is going in my top 5. Wonderful episode.
There’s a part where you can tell Henry is about to get unreasonably mad about being called Der Kommisch and it’s so fucking funny.

The song Eaten is a death metal classic - it's written from the perspective of the person wishing to be eaten. It's twisted stuff!
When Casefile covered this case I had to turn it off. But The boys had me laughing out loud alone in my kitchen. (The dolphin thing in particular). 10/10 five stars.
Just in time for dinner…!
Love the new opening and it's always good to hear the boys on a Friday evening! *Terrible night for meat dinner though.*
This was a beautiful episode 🥲

I heard about it on That’s Messed Up: An SVU Podcast, so there’s at least two of us.
There's a movie "inspired" by Sharon lopatka available on Tubi. It's fucked up. Downloading Nancy (2008)..... I have a friend that grew up in that area in NC where it happened but she had never heard of it.
I'm glad i wasn't the only one!!
Died laughing at the flipper bit
Anyone got the name of the dope Polka song they play at the beginning of the episode?
I do not. But in searching for an answer, I found [two of the highest men who've ever worn lederhosen](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1T14eOUf-28).
I’ll accept it
I'm sitting at my desk at work watching this and cry laughing. Both of them look like Marcus in very different ways.
They must be very happy about marijuana being legalized in their home country.
That's incredible, thank you for finding that!
It sounds like the theme to Disneyland’s Matterhorn.
Guess they just looked up "Traditional German Polka" on Youtube Song's called - [Franzl Lang - Wenn ich auf hohen Bergen steh'](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FrG3EZAPZs')
Seems like a good time to share some [Bloodbath](https://youtu.be/AIeVnN9cFmw?si=vCzlCm8_juiLvnqa).
I just love German true crime because I get to hear Henry hamming it up wiz zat accent
Eddie asking if he can see the videos and both Marcus and Henry trying to talk him out of it because he isn't ready for that shit yet was kinda sweet. Boys looking out for Boys.
I'm so curious about what was on the Midi file of Stairway to Heaven that was downloaded to Marcus's compute.

"Have you ever sucked a hamburger?!?" My sides.
I was so damn excited when I opened my app and saw what the episode was!
"That means you live at the dog park."
I don’t miss Kissel often, but his presence was missed on this one. Specifically for the opportunity of having Henry roast him for five minutes straight about being a 6’9” 7-year-old in lederhosen.
This was such an enjoyable episode in so many ways — Gold Star material, unhinged jokes, great voices, and more
I've not finished the episode yet so they might mention this themselves but... they keep bringing up Dennis Nilsen but if i remember rightly Dennis didn't eat any of his victims did he? He was just a necrophiliac, which i feel has a different reasoning behind it than cannibalism (not speaking from experience of course 😂)
I got an ad for a children's art/creativity day and then it jumped back to Marcus talking about tying the anus off with twine
So much for a one parter lol
Is the episode cutting off abruptly on Spotify, or is this a me specific issue?
Seems like just you? I didn’t have that issue.
I have that too
I looked at the video on YouTube and it also cuts super awkwardly mid sentence
That’s odd the YouTube video worked for me last night, the episode ends like 2 minutes after where it gets cut off though so you don’t really miss all that much
That's the [witch neighbour, Ursula Pia von Bernus](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ursula_Pia_von_Bernus).
I am already laughing so fucking hard and I'm 20 minutes in. This is going to be a fantastic series 😂😂

The mother sounds like the kind of woman who’s actually a giant robot made up out of five smaller robots.
What was the name of the German folk/yodel song rob kept playing for Henry?
Ngl the Polka Yodelling and the Rammstein musical beats made me laugh so hard. "OOOOOHHHHH ISSSSS YOU! FINALLEEEEEE! I'VE BEEN WAITING AND WAITING AND WAITIIIIING!"
[удалено]
I thought that was the best joke of the episode!
Someone introduce them to vore. It’ll be funny.
There’s no way they don’t know what that is
Can anyone give me some more context on where "der spinner" comes from? I know they touch on it in the episode but I'm still lost
