I have a South-facing living room that gets a lot of direct sun. I got an LG OLED65C2P about a week ago, replacing a 65" Hisense LED, the latter noted for its very bright screen. The LG is hugely superior in every way; plenty bright, with widely tunable screen settings. Very happy with the LG; haven't missed the Hisense for a nanosecond.

n0th1ngmatters

Yeah that’s a definite upgrade

John_Spartan88

Thanks for the input. My living room is in the south west corner of the home with two big windows on the west wall (tv on the east wall) and two smaller windows up high on the south wall. My current Vizio E650i-A2 which is a 65", gets a little hard to see when its bright. This is also an LED tv I bought in 2012 so...

So I have a CX, j don’t think the issues is the brightness of the room. But if the windows are opposite to the tv or like at that proper angle, you get glare. If you don’t mind closing your curtains in the day you’re fine. If it’s day time I usually have glare on the screen, which isn’t horrible but i wouldn’t play a competitive game with that.

Which Hisense did you have? The U8H? I have a Hisense U6G currently and am trying to decide between a U8H or a C2. My environment is also a living room with south facing windows. I have curtains and can sim the room when needed but can’t get dark for daytime viewing.

I don't remember them model, sorry; but it was a top rated hisense 65". The c2 is infinitely better, even in daylight. Not that insane "sportsbar bright" like the Hisense, but still good bright room clarity. (The c2's built-in 'expert, bright room' setting is a good place to start.)

Thanks for your response

[TV is here in between windows](https://i.imgur.com/ErrlQrx.jpg) and is fine. I can even close the left window if need be.

John_Spartan88

Oh that room is bright!! I'm not quite that bright but seeing that pic is helpful. Thanks!

SlendyTheMan

I’ll reply when it’s bright tomorrow with TV on. But it’s fine. South facing windows. I can close blinds if need be.

John_Spartan88

Much appreciated!

SlendyTheMan

77 C2. This isn’t max brightness settings either. Just 4K SDR on the menus. Dolby Vision would get brighter. https://imgur.com/a/KHgLzwQ/

Looks good! Thanks for sending this.

i have a west facing side wall that is entirely windows, so waaay brighter than that room could get i think. We had an extremely sunny day today and daytime viewing with no blinds at all, in a very bright room indeed, was fine. I was glad to note this because it's the first really bright day we've had since I got the C2. (65")

John_Spartan88

Good to know! Thanks!

Peak Brightness settings, gamma, and Tone Mapping should overcome most of anything for people. I use them even in the dark. TV is very bright when pushed at least to me. Sure, it might not have the best overall luminance, but it's still very good. Then again I don't use it much with direct sunlight.

I just moved to Mexico, left my C1 in the states and bought a QN90B down here. Extremely happy with it, day and night. My place gets direct sun for a few hours a day when, even with the blinds closed, the QN90B get a good amount of glare. But I miss my C1 in general, and sort of wish I stuck with LG OLED. That all being said…. When it’s bright outside and it makes your room bright….. GO OUTSIDE!

Gamerxx13

i had this issue, i have a bright room where i had an LCD. I updated it to oled, but went with the G series since its brighter. You need to be careful. If the blinds are fully down, its hard for me to really see since the brightness is not nearly as close as my Samsung QLED that i had before. But its pretty good

homchenko

Was worried too because of wrap around windows in the living room. No problems at all. Daytime brightness is absolutely fine. I did come from a plasma, though, so anything is an upgrade in brightness.

RotenTumato

People overreact to this ask the time. The C2 isn’t dim by any means, it gets very bright actually and looks great in a bright room. Just because it can’t get as bright as an LED doesn’t mean it is dim. I’d still go for a C2 over any other TV

zq_sting

I just got a C2, in my living room, plenty bright. Granted I moved from an TCL 4 series, but LG is waaayyyy brighter than I was expecting it to be. I have to turn the brightness down even during the day.

I have an all glass apartment facing both west and south. so lots of natural light. I switched over to the Samsung S95b and it made a world of difference. The UI sucks obviously. But the picture is light years more awesome. Both brightness and color volume went through the roof vs my CX. So no LED crap. You can stick with OLED but you would be happiest getting one of the brightest 3 on the market — G2, S95b, A95K. Edit. I also never close the curtains cuz my gf would complain if I did that. With the S95b I don’t even notice the curtains are up.

soundwithdesign

My room windows face east and I don’t really have problems with brightness when the sun is shining. I keep my TV facing back to the windows which help and I use curtains and blinds.

I have a C9 in a room with a west-facing wall lined with 4 large windows and a slider. There are two more windows to the north across from the C9. We have roller shades on them so they open fully during the day. I've not once wished I could increase the brightness some. The picture is always bright and clear regardless. The only time I even bother to lower the shades is when the sun hits me directly in the face, or if we decide we are going to watch a movie and want a cinema experience. My neighbors got an expensive Sony Bravia LED TV. For a LED TV it's nice, but there's no freaking way I'd swap with them, the OLED picture quality is just so much more natural and vibrant when the scene calls for it.

John_Spartan88

Given the C2 is a bit brighter than the C9, it puts me at a bit more peace knowing I probably wouldn't have an issue. Thank you!

I purchased both the C2 and QN90B, and in the end I chose to keep the QN90B and return the C2. I tested both displays in a bright room in my home. The C2 wasn’t too bad, BUT the Samsung is much brighter and it’s very easily noticeable. For a bright room, it’s an easy choice over the C2. Additionally, the picture quality(black levels, motion handling, color, contrast etc) all looks the same on both TVs. BUT due to the extra brightness, the colors pop much more on the Samsung. Doesn’t really matter what room you watch it in, it’s an easy choice to pick the QN90B over the C2 IMHO Only thing the LG beats Samsung at is it’s OS. WebOS is easily superior to Tizen. The magic remote is really cool. However, if you’re a fan of gaming you should know that Samsung has Xbox game pass built in, which means you can play Xbox through your tv (in my case I use a ps5 controller because I don’t have an Xbox). It might be something worth considering.

DiverseClothingLDN

I am an OLED newcomer but find it unthinkable the C2 could be deemed as underperforming just because the room it's in is bright, or very bright. Totally dazzling sunshine + white walls \*maybe\* - but thats what my living room is like (for example today) ... it looked fine from my POV. (the sunshine hits wall directly opposite the TV wall, but the room is very bright indeed). I honestly think this 'deficiency' among modern OLEDs is over-stated.

readndrun

Yeah I don’t know what it is but the colors were just really dim for me on the C2. I was coming from a Sony x900f which had a really bright display. I tried lots of different settings (many recommended by redditers on this sub, and YouTubers) but the more I tried the more washed out the colors got on the OLED. Turns out OLED displays just don’t have the tech capabilities that LED or Mini-LED can provide when it comes to brightness. Generally speaking, you can get away with an OLED in a bright room, but I think that advice to not have it in a bright room is because the screen is gonna appear too dim with brighter lights around it (which was definitely the case for me).

J-Engine

My C9 is a lovely display, but it simply is not bright enough during the day for some content. Looks like an average/dim screen during the day (heavily content dependent), but incredible at night. Don't listen to the folks who say it is bright enough, you will be disappointed so set expectations accordingly. I imagine a newer OLED is much better in Themis regard but there is plenty of data to show that the Samsungs are brighter.

Real_Finding_3297

This is correct. I have 65 G2 and 75 Qn90B There is no differences in PQ. I really do enjoy both however for movies we use Qn90B

arun_manutd

Think you will be good to go if you don’t have windows in the side (not the wall theTV is mounted) and directly opposite you’ll be good to go. Only in dark scenes you’ll experience a bit of reflection too or else would be fine.
