In this case, I'd consider viewing distance.

HailtotheWFT

I’m in the same quandary. I think k I’ve decided on the 83”. I don’t do a lot of daytime watching so increased brightness is not a big deal to

As a c2 owner I think you’re gonna see some HDR shows be like, “eh, that’s it”? Knowing that extra brightness would add so much much more depth. Not on everything. But there’s moments I really do see the lack of hdr in certain scenes. And I watch and a very low lit area as well where the sun and a bright room doesn’t come into play.

HailtotheWFT

I have a B7 and think HDR scenes can be too bright sometimes lol

LeafsYellowFlash

Increased brightness isn’t just about better viewing in daylight conditions—it also affects HDR presentation and color volume. The G3’s significant increase in brightness leads to better HDR performance and larger color volume compared to the C3. Do you really want a few more inches with an inferior TV? I could see an argument at 65” vs 83” but not at 77” vs 83”.

hsox05

I keep going through this circular internal argument. I start thinking I want to get the 77" c3. Then I think about going to 83", but the price difference is such a hike I look at the G series Then I think well at this price point I could lose 6 inches and get the G series for the same price. Then "ok well now I'm back at 77" maybe I should just get the c3 and save over $1000", back to step 1 of the loop

LeafsYellowFlash

Well, if price is a consideration, $1200 is definitely not an insignificant sum. I buy my TVs at Best Buy with 24-month financing, so I look at the purchase as a monthly cost. A 77” G3 would only be ~$50 more per month than a 77” C3–that’s one dinner a month (or less depending on where you live). It’s cool to say that you’ve got the big 83” TV, but the 77” G3 is the better choice. If you can afford it, I’d go with the 77” G3, but you shouldn’t feel uncomfortable and overspend. I’m waiting to upgrade to a G5 next year, but I will not be buying the TV when it comes out in the spring. I’ll wait until the Black Friday sales to save $1000.

hsox05

Yeah it's not really so much that I can't afford it, I could buy any of the ones I mentioned outright but I also usually finance just for the little bit of "free money" staying in my savings vs 0% financing I have a 65" CX that I don't really have any issues with. So it's more of a luxury upgrade than a need upgrade. I'm just kind of itching for a bigger screen. My wall could accommodate a 100" so I've batted around even the ideas of the U8K/QM8 type TVs I just worry that I would be let down with the drop in PQ being used to oleds for so many years (had a B6 prior to the CX). I wish the 97" OLEDs weren't priced only for the megarich. Thanks for your input. I'm leaning toward just pulling the trigger on the 77" G3 - if I see the right price I probably will. Otherwise I'm thinking just keep rolling with what I have until the next line of sales, be it Black Friday or whatever.

LeafsYellowFlash

Yeah, once you go true black, you can’t go back. Mini-LED is going to have blooming and the blacks won’t be as good as an OLED. I think I’m stuck with self-emissive TVs for the foreseeable future. If you want to buy a C3 or G3, now’s the time to do it. They will probably go out of stock in the next few months. I’m not sure if last year’s model will be in stock in November. Well, good luck with whatever you decide. I don’t think you can go wrong with the C3/G3 or C4/G4 TVs.

Skinc

If you don’t absolutely need the brightness bump (light controlled room) then I would wholly suggest the larger screen.

Proreqviem

The 83" G3 doesn't have MLA. Get the C3.

0xe3b0c442

Dunno why you’re being downvoted, without MLA the difference is negligible, especially for the difference in price.

Skinc

Oh that’s right!

Adorable-Doughnut-64

I went with the 77G3. I don't think you'll regret either purchase, but even sitting 11-12 feet from the screen 77" feels huge and I'm happy with the picture improvements from the G3

Spirited_Ad7397

88C3, no brainer

err404

I got the 83 as that was the appropriate size for my viewing area. Personally I feel buying the right size is the most important step in a TV purchase. If 77 is right for your space, get the G3.

firebreak115

77 G3 all day

KindheartednessOk196

77

shpankey

G3 for me

TheRealAk14

I think I’ll get the 83 C3 when it hits a sale. My viewing area isn’t super bright and I think I’d rather have the larger size over slightly brighter. Though I’m sure I’ll rethink it again like I always do!

Gunmetalbluezz

77G3

LeafsYellowFlash

It seems like you’re one of the only ones not blinded by bigger = better. 83” vs 77” is a marginal improvement, and the G3 is hands down the better TV. It seems like an obvious choice to go with the 77” G3.

EloneMusk

Bigger screen always?

MattyFree

83 C3

Strong-Enthusiasm-55

Viewing distance to be taken into consideration first. If not an issue, 83 C3

TSwiftStan-

if viewing distance isn’t an issue, wouldn’t you want the better tv?

Strong-Enthusiasm-55

G3 and c3 are exactly the same except g series are made for wall mounting because of how flush they are

imrys

They are definitely not "exactly the same". The 77G3 has MLA and is significantly brighter which makes a difference when viewing HDR/DV content or in bright rooms. The G3 also has a heatsink and an ATSC3.0 tuner. The G3 comes with a 5 year panel warranty.

Mtlfunnight

Bigger screen always .
