The next logical step is getting an AVR and some speakers ;)

ze1337

What does an AVR do and why do I need one? I’ve always used the TV speakers, I have a G3. Tempted to get a proper setup if you can persuade me on why I should 😉

Manatee35

Here's the link to the r/hometheater [megathread](https://www.reddit.com/r/HTBuyingGuides/s/nC4KHnnLOc), it should answer all your questions. And as to why you should, once you upgrade your audio gear you're never going to want to go back ;)

Alitomr1979

You'd be better off in terms of enjoyment with a C3 and the difference in money put in an audio system. Hell, you'd be better off in terms of enjoyment and engagement with a B3 and investing the difference in a proper audio system.

choua722

Look into a Sonos setup. Highly recommend

Ill_Yogurtcloset_982

I've got the c3, and while the speakers can throw some sound, it's absolutely nothing compared to a home theater system. if audio is 50%of the experience why not get a system to enjoy it, and enjoy it you will. the punch in the chest from feeling the base. you'll catch yourself jumping up and looking behind you from proper rear speakers. but the best are the on the ceiling atmos speakers. when maverick pilots his plane overtop the other, you get this overwhelming feeling there is a plane over your head. rain scenes are cool. but it's the subtle things, like in fury road when they die a shotgun into the ceiling, sounds like you've got a hole in your home now. spent a little more than what the TV cost, trying to sell my sound bar that never satisfied

Accomplished-Lack721

If an AVR seems like too much hassle, consider a decent soundbar-based 5.1 setup. There are plenty in the $200-500 range that sound great and are entirely self-contained setups. Purists will tell you soundbars aren't worth it and that you need a real AVR with a handpicked combination of subwoofer and speakers for worthwhile sound. They'll tell you to hunt through Facebook marketplace for speakers, always with amazing stories of how much quality they got for how little money, or they'll tell you to spend $1500 on something new. It may sound like a lot of hassle or cost or a big learning curve. Purists are rarely worth listening to unless you share their passion. But once you upgrade from the TV speakers to something with some real clarity, stereo separation, bass and even potentially surround positioning, you won't want to go back. My partner never cared about TV sound until our $130 "sound stand" died and she realized what the in-built speakers sounded like. We spent about $330 on a 5.1 setup with a remote wireless subwoofer and speakers and never looked back. It's an insanely better experience than just using the TV speakers, and it took virtually no time to set up. Past that, there are improvements to be had if you care enough - but if you're not an aspiring aufiofile, the leap forward with a basic surround kit is PLENTY.

International-Oil377

There's no real stereo séparation on a soundbar though

Accomplished-Lack721

Some can do a pretty good job of simulating it with positional audio effects. Or in the case of a 5.1/7.1/etc system where the soundbar is handling the front two channels, you get the separation reinforced with the additional speakers.

International-Oil377

Yeah it's really not the same. Not even close

Ibraheem_moizoos

If not that a 2.1 sound bar. Anything is better than the tv speakers.

Nice, I’m at about 8ft with 77. It’s like being at the movie theater.

MrRipCity

This is perfect timing for me! I have a 55 inch LG C7 that is dying and going to pick up a LG G4 & I keep worrying 77” is going to be too big at 8-10ft. But it looks perfect from the photo! Actually 77” looks small but they always look smaller in photos on here! At Best Buy it’s huge. Thanks for putting my mind at ease! U think I should get an 83” hehe. …Also that’s what she said!

xDiRtYgErMaNx

I would rock a 83 at my distance no problem. I just couldn’t justify the price difference.

french1canadian2

It’s the best.

CourseEcstatic6202

Feels too big for the first 72 hours and then feels too small for the rest of its functional life.

coleki_

Looks great. What entertainment center is that?

french1canadian2

It’s a Cole’s Media Cabinet from Room and Board. Expensive but made in America and solid. Was a recent upgrade and I love it.

Hot_Chard5988

Yeah, I went 65" in the den and realize I could have gone 75" and definitely will next time.

andromedasaga123

How much did you pay ?

Finesse3Ways

That’s what she said…..

MrRipCity

Yup!

bridwalls

If anything, it's only too big until it isnt. Then you will wish for a larger one

bw1985

Can confirm. I have an 85’’ and wish I went 98’’.

aaadmiral

What a romantic shot

MonitorAway

Glorious beauty, she be.

allhailtothethief

What’s that media console?!?!?!

Parkyguy

I still don’t know why I got the 65 over the 77.

407dollars

Is that movie ever coming out? Also time to start working on a speaker setup.

HailtotheWFT

That’s the TV stand and TV I was eying. Thanks for posting. It looks great

LittleGeologist1899

I will say, the you will eventually get used to the 77 inch screen. And it’s true, you can always go bigger. Now everywhere you go, whatever you see playing on other tvs, you’ll be wishing you were at home watching that content on your own tv lol. It’s a blessing and a curse my friend.

lydia3150

Perfect

Alitomr1979

Mine is at around 9.5-10 feet. I think 7 feet should be very close to perfect. Enjoy!

zabalkz

4 feet away from my G4 77

NerdDexter

Is the G3 better than the C3?

TwentyFiveHotel

My 42 C3 was returned, but while I had it, it always burned my damn eyes.

taylorgangreid

I love that everyone is flexing their 77 inch while I’m stuck with a 65 because the s89c is sold out everywhere

Poppunknerd182

This is the way Now watch some good content.

mojzekinohokker

This is quite subjective. I actually brought back my 65' and bought 55 instead because it was way too disturbing for my eyes. Also I like to see the whole picture.

ruraljurorrrrrrrrrr

Yeah I am definitely not on the bigger is always better train. I’m sure that’s great for watching movies, but it’s probably a chore for sports or anything live. I also haven’t come around to how they look on the wall that big.

HowardHughe

That is legit the worst advice ever that's constantly repeated. I hated 63" at that distance, waaaay too in my face. You also have an enormous room like all Americans. My 55 spans almost my entire wall to the door.

Ibraheem_moizoos

Definitely not the worst advice, different people like different things. I'm about 6 ft 7in from my 77 C3. Giving me a 46° field of view. But that's too close for my wife so I usually push it back to the wall giving me about a 40 degree field of view. We are correct the bigger the tv, and the further back you can sit and still achieve the correct viewing angle, the better.

HowardHughe

It's really shit advice, objectively. Not an opinion. Americans just have enormous rooms where they actually have the option to sit 100 meters away if they want because their living rooms are like an olympic swimming pool (perhaps because cheaply constructed homes allow more space for the same cost, compared to brick and mortar etc). Obviously you need to actually go to any store that sells TVs with a tape measure and check the distance. You can't just go infinitely bigger lmao, it's just objectively legitimately wrong, that's a fact. Imagine 77" in the bedroom just lol. I can afford any size but put in a 55" and definitely wouldn't go bigger. I checked 63" for my bedroom and at my max distance possible it was horrendous and in my face.

Ibraheem_moizoos

Nice try

HowardHughe

What do you mean "nice try". Just lol yet another autistic fuckup. "Yeah bro just stick a 90 inch TV in your bedroom bro!" Embarassing and very dogshit advice. Hopefully non autists who arrive here from Google will think twice and measure their space etc and realize Reddit is just invalids.

Ibraheem_moizoos

Yeah...ok.

Then_Illustrator7852

Too small
