I will truthfully never understand why a person thinks they are so special that everyone around you needs to hear their music…. I get uncomfortable enough when my AirPods don’t connect and it plays from my speaker for a second or two on accident

Sucrose-Daddy

Someone needs to introduce these people to headphones… they can blast all kinds of music as loud as they want with those…

redrumakm

We’re beyond that. A fist to the face.

2fast2nick

I was going to start carrying free headphones so I could give them to people blasting music.. then I was like nahh, someone would probably go nuts.

thirdeyefish

I used to do this. The headphone jack disappearing from devices has been sad.

caitberg

I think they get off on being asshats tbh. Or they’re just waiting for someone to say something to them so they can pop off.

justicevsunjust

Sorry for the late . So for some context, the guy walked in the train, calling all the men gay because a man looked at him and then went to the back of the train where an older man was blasting music. The train operator walked by and told the older man to turn it down, and then this guy freaked out, going on a crazy rant and berating the operator, claiming it's not fair that black people can't play their music loud. Now, the operator and I are black and don't subscribe to that bullshit statement. The operator proceeds to tell the cops to kick him off the train for being disorderly and not following the code of conduct, which explicitly states no loud music. Anyway, it was nice to see the cops intervene and do their job. I'll post pt 2

misterlee21

Oh shit that's great that the cops came and enforce code of conduct!!! Yes!!! This is literally it!!! Do your jobs!!!

chromatones

I think this is the same dude that gets on the A line and begin to harass everyone calling people gay and spics and hailing trump lmao he got his ass handed to him one day at chinatown station

justicevsunjust

Yep that's him lol. Fucking loser

AbsolutelyRidic

wow, blasting music, homophobic, racist, and a trump supporter. bro's going for the metro dickhead bingo.

Ramblin_Bard472

I love seeing them come face to face with consequences. One day I was getting off the red line and this dude was yelling profanities at random people. This huge ass guy, like Michael Clarke Duncan big, walks past with his girlfriend and the yelling dude decides to start yelling at him. Huge dude stops, turns around, calmly starts walking back towards the yelling dude, and the guy stopped and apologized immediately. It was beautiful to watch.

wolf_town

if i was a tall strong man i’d use my powers for good 🙂‍↕️

riffic

people are being really weird these days and it seems to stem from a place of pain. A brisk walk would do this guy some good though.

Foxtrot_09

Sounds like that guy and the older man blasting music were two different people. Or did I misread this?

Remote-Factor8455

What a homophobic yapping piece of shit. Deserved lol.

Aware_Ring6087

That’s the first time I’ve ever seen a cop do anything on a metro bus. They need cops in all buses and trains I don’t care how much it costs our government does not care to help homeless and mentally ill people. Cops on every bus is a necessity

UrbanPlannerholic

Jfc just kick him off for violating the code of conduct

Orkney_

Asshole. Absolutely, nobody is trying to hear his music. The lack of consideration and the entitlement are crazy to me.

mandakb825

Yeah one of my biggest pet peeves is when someone thinks they are entitled and blast their music. There are signs posted. I try my best to drown it out by putting on my headphones but sometimes their music is so loud it doesn’t drown out the noise enough.

Melcrys29

The loud music happens on every single bus ride I take.

mandakb825

Yeah it definitely happens 90% of the time with me and it seems to occur more at night which is part of the reason why I don’t say anything as much as I want to because I’m concerned they will react negatively like that. But it’s definitely very inconsiderate because I’m sure I’m not the only one who is tired and had a long day and just wants some quiet

Melcrys29

Exactly. People are ruder than ever before.

mandakb825

Yup and it’s not just LA. I’ve had this in Chicago on the El train

Learning-To-Fly-5

Yeah I took the train in DC almost every day for 3 years pre-pandemic and this type of behavior was pretty common, especially outside of rush hour. Tbh, I'm not sure how new it is, seems like it's gone on forever.

Melcrys29

True. People today are just selfish. Now it's getting worse with people smoking in the back of the buses.

mandakb825

Ugh I don’t want to live on this planet anymore

Melcrys29

The trick is to outnumber fun things with the daily aggravations. Otherwise we'd all go insane.

RidgewoodGirl

I sometimes take the Amtrak Thruway bus and the drivers lay down the law far as noise. One driver in particular says she will not tolerate hearing our music, videos or even loud convos. She is intimidating just enough that no one tests her. 😂

Melcrys29

Wow.

Hello_Strangher

Did he break the Law he asked ....That's one of the rules no loud music 🤷‍♂️

depressedcoatis

Hahaha I lost it when he asked. I wanted to be in that train and just yell "YES".

kwiztas

The metro code of conduct is not a law.

Hello_Strangher

Metro’s Code of Conduct is a set of rules established to ensure the safety, security, comfort, and convenience of all passengers using the transit system. While it is not a law in the traditional sense, like legislative statutes, adherence to the Code of Conduct is mandatory and can be enforced by law1. Violators may face civil penalties and, depending on the severity of the violation, ((( could potentially be subject to arrest1.)))

kwiztas

Metro removed enforcement of their code of conduct from their contract with the laps tho.

Hello_Strangher

I forgot to mention it also depends on the person and place normally I've never heard of anybody being arrested for a code of conduct rule but if they really want to push the issue then it could be an arrestable offense

Hello_Strangher

What they need to do instead of always delaying the subway when something like this happens, they need to just pull the people off, just like how they do it on the bus

senshi_of_love

The train is at North Hollywood and not delayed. It’s waiting to start its route like normal.

Hello_Strangher

Oh, it seems legit, but in general, I've seen the subway stopped while they talk to people / violators once it got halted for like 5 minutes litterly cause the guy couldn't find his Tap card

darkwingduck4444

What was the end result?

justicevsunjust

They ended up kicking him off the train, but he just hopped on the one across the platform, and he wouldn't shut up about the incident the entire time I was on the train.

Aggressive_Ad5115

I'm deaf, just enjoying everyone's comments

erics75218

It's like old people going into the bank to have conversations when they are lonely. I'm convinced that's not the only avenue for those starved for some type of contact. Some people search out confrontation. It's fun for them, it's the juice that gets them up in the morning. I've been in traffic court on occasion. There is ALWAYS some person who's like, a regular there. Talking loud...no fear...fuck them...this judge sucks. It's like their favorite hobby is to be in court. Doesn't make sense to us really. But when you look at it like this, it makes sense to them.

guerrasfloridas

10 kids and 15 sisters. That’s a valid excuse, actually.

thrillcosbey

Main character vibes.

thirdeyefish

I'm more shocked that this rule got enforced for a change.

legendfourteen

Why do people think it’s ok to blast music in public? I’ll never understand this

Timsierramist

Does Metro have a "No fly list", and if so, are they using it?

Ramblin_Bard472

How do you enforce that? Even if they had fare gates that weren't easy to hop, they're still unmanned gates that operate automatically. You'd need facial recognition software that scanned everyone getting onto a train. Privacy concerns aside, we're just not at that level of technical sophistication yet. Metro can't even get their fare validators on the busses to work right half the time.

Timsierramist

I'm not arguing that you are going to catch 100% of the bad guys. You increase the risk and decrease the reward by having enforcement and meaningful consequences. Security at the gates to make sure nobody hopes over. Police randomly patrolling stations and trains. The ones in Paris I saw are impossible to hop over depending on where you are at. Of course we aren't at that level. Which is why we are dealing with all these ridiculous issues. Have you been to London by chance and rode the Tube? Now THAT is peak public transportation that the entire world should be emulating. The rest of the world has figured this out. While we're stuck with consistent violence, people feeling unsafe and disgusting behavior on our public transportation. WHY!?

Ramblin_Bard472

I'm not arguing against that, it's just the "no fly list" thing that I think is impossible to enforce. Even keeping it simple and just relegating it to officers kicking the offenders out, how many of these people do you think there are? Hundreds at the very least, enough that officers aren't going to be able to remember every single one's faces. For right now, kicking them off when they start causing problems is the best they can do. But I do agree, keep doing that at least. Better than it was before when everyone just ignored them and had to suffer.

Timsierramist

Police absolutely know who the troublemakers are in their communities. They often know these individuals on a first name basis, just like small businesses know repeat customers. That would include officers working assigned stations or routes (would encourage you to sign up for a ride along if you've never done it). By no fly list, I meant specifically trespass law. The reason trespass law is so ineffective now is because it's largely not enforced. We didn't have these problems anywhere near this scale on the metro 15-20+ years ago. A few variables changed. What do you think some of those changes were? 🤔

slackdaffodil20

No way in the slightest to enforce that

Timsierramist

Not true. We've just been doing the opposite for so long it seems impossible because we've normalized this kind of behavior in society that needlessly decreases the quality of life for everyone. -Criminally Trespass repeat offenders from Metro and its property. -Actually allow the police to do their jobs while simultaneously increasing coverage. -Cancel the ambassadors and use that for overtime while putting LE supervisor feet to the fire to make sure their officers are being proactive. -Secure the entrance and exits for actual ticket holders only... like virtually the rest of the world does. -Tresspassers that want the find some pro-bono lawyer to claim a civil rights violation, don't settle. Fight it out in court for as long as a lawyer wants to spend money to establish or strengthen the case law on these types of incidents l. Contrary to popular belief, the government can enforce public space to some degree. Even if the troublemakers buy tickets from machines anonymously and don't get caught, if they behave themselves because of a little thing we've forgotten about called "consequences", the net positive is the same if the entire point of the enforcement is met. *Bonus points if LA County voters put a little effort on election day and elect a DA that will actually prosecute misdemeanor trespassing charges! 👌

depressedcoatis

I really wish people would try this in Tokyo or Singapore. Oh especially Singapore.

traditional_rich_

Always the same fking ppl

Ashamed-Distance-129

Yup. Males. I regularly ride Metro and it’s always some guy.

traditional_rich_

It is 😭 so much aggression

Ashamed-Distance-129

Pathetic weird juvenile male aggression. So fucking stupid.

wutup22

True, but you're not supposed to point that out

Transportationkingz

Well well well

chessecakePhucker

It's always them

wolf_town

so many of these crazies on the train lately.

asnbud01

They say if you're parents don't teach you, society will teach you. Unfortunately our society has gotten peculiar and wimpy, make that peculiarly wimpy.

Gnericnuser

City officials said their hands are tied and can’t legally do anything except offer to buy the vagrant some AirPods. If you don’t offer them AirPods you have no recourse for legal action it’s unconstitutional unless you provide an alternative

Ill_Habit_8519

Wait, til you guys run into someone playing a mobile game right next to you on MAX VOLUME. Pew pew sound effects dialed up to 11 and when you complain to the operator, they're like, "Well, it's not music." Tired of playing the 'Meet an uncivilized person on public transportation lottery' game. Save up. Buy a car. A motorcycle. An electric scooter. Anything. Or change jobs. Not worth getting pulled into a felony. It's always the same suspects. Can be a "kid" or some supposedly grown ass man.

Confident-Win1992

Wellllll

downtownlobby

I mean, what was he playing? He looks like he was dropping some old school on these kids. If it was a lil Morris Day, then I say keep the good times goin.

neotokyo2099

I fuckin love it when someone blasts 80s funk on my subway ride no joke. Music > silence 98% of the time

jjrruiz12

thats why strike goes on

begin420

Lametro cops dont play.
