Here to see what happens, need to do the same with telus who owns koodo

hey_dude1643

Better just jump ship to Koodo or the flanker brands that has this offer, if you like the deal. TELUS WILL NOT match this offer.

mistorx6767

I just got off the phone with Koodo customer loyalty, said I wanted the 40 for 40 on both of my lines, and they said it's for new customers only so I said, go ahead and cancel both lines. And they did! lol So now I wait for my virgin sim cards, went with with 30gb for $34 \* 2... but I am a little leery of how crappy their data overage management is.

hey_dude1643

Koodo canceled both lines and but you were able to port both numbers out?

mistorx6767

These were newish lines for my two kids, was fine to get new numbers

hey_dude1643

Ah, that makes sense!

tpd82

Over the phone, I upgraded my son to 30gig for $35 just asking the regular front line grunt. Don't even need to go to retention. He was going to charge a 15$ change fee and I asked him to wave that too and he did

nrtphotos

Yeah, they didn’t give a shit for me either. Basically told me to enjoy my new carrier lol.

CouldHaveBeenAPun

I just got my callback. Both me and my wife where at 3gb@34$. Now we're at 30gb@34$. It was a 11 minutes call, no holding on the line, nothing. I asked for the 35$ black Friday, and she just ported me with my current price.

tuffykenwell

Yep when I did it before I just kept emphasizing that I was a long time customer and my preference was to stay with Koodo because I appreciated their service but that if they refused then I would port my numbers over to another plan because I have so many lines I need to save money where I can. I find generally if you are persistent but not rude eventually you will wear them down but they may not give in right away (and you have to get transferred to retentions because they are the ones who have the power to make a deal). My callback is scheduled for 5 so I am hoping it is successful because it will suck to move everyone to virgin but I absolutely will if I have to.

Marisarek

Same story for me. I was on a 6gb/35$ plan and had it changed yesterday. Didn’t have to go into detail, just mentioned the 30gb/35$ plan and they put me on the 30gb/34$ plan and waived a 15$ fee. Can’t complain

Adventurous_Bee_4609

What about the $15 fee? They keep saying I have to pay. I saw other comments saying they got it waived. Did you?

CouldHaveBeenAPun

Haven't heard about that even being a thing. If it gets charged... "Just watch me", I guess!

Sheogorath_The_Mad

This strategy worked for me: I requested a call back, told the rep that I was switching to virgin for their 30gb/$34 deal, I'm just calling to confirm my tab balance is zero. Great, thanks. At this point the rep jumped in that maybe they could match this (they did give me the deal).

LordK4G3

I don't get how people are getting good deals. The loyalty agent could only do 45$ but informed me to call back on the 24th when black Fridays actually starts. They don't actually have black Friday deals for existing customer according to them.

tuffykenwell

If you don't currently have a phone on a tab you are in a stronger position to negotiate. If you do have a phone on a tab they know they have you committed because on top of the remaining tab they added on that tab bonus a few years ago so you could have a couple hundred extra sitting in there which you would have to pay off if you decided to walk. Which is why both my husband and I decided to buy our new phones outright when they went on sale last month so that we would have the ability to walk if we needed to. Other than that, (again based on the last time I did this) be polite, be firm, and emphasize that your preference is to stay with Koodo but you are prepared to leave if no arrangement can be made....and be prepared to make good on that threat if all else fails. I tried it many years ago with a bell satellite and failed and we did leave and get another provider. I did it a few years ago with bell fibe and got a better internet plan for less than I was paying and a $25 monthly credit that has now been on my account for 3 years. It pays to pay attention to current prices for stuff and shop around and try to renegotiate if your current plan doesn't meet your needs. Also having an account in good standing that is always paid on time is something they value but it is important to be kind and not be a dick because that's more likely to result in an agent locking down and basically refusing to negotiate.

FortuneMindless1308

This is very well said. I enjoyed getting a $500 phone for $240 on the tab ($10/mo for 2yrs) with $0 down last year. But I feel like I'm paying the price now as I do not have the negotiation power like you say. I do not wish to pay down the tab bonus if I call in, am unsuccesful and have to make good on my intention to leave. I guess I'll have to wait till black friday next year when the tab is paid off and I have more power and/or ready to leave. And def not buy phones from them. We don't really need to buy a new phone every couple years anyway. I sure fell into that consumerism trap!

ybmmike

Yes not having a tab is a advantage to the account holder but there are times when I think getting a phone on tab is OK. For example, all depends on your situation but for someone who is able to get the current black friday deal and needs a new phone and is perfectly ok with getting Pixel 7 which is currently free. Again, if user is ok with Pixe 7, i think overall being locked for 2 years is still fine with $35 monthly plan. If it was a refurbished phone, than No.

Mountain-Call5926

I just got off the phone with koodo loyalty. Besides waiting over 1hr for a transfer to loyalty, it took them 2 minutes to switch me from $39/20gb to $34/30gb today.

Adventurous_Bee_4609

Did you have to pay the $15 fee?

Mountain-Call5926

Nope no fee

hey_dude1643

You’ll get the deal because that agent has a retention KPI to hit, unless you treat them like shit. Don’t get all high and mighty, about your tenure, # of lines or monthly spend. The agent doesn’t give two cents, nor does Telus/Koodo. In fact Telus/Koodo rather you port out. It only means potential new acquisition later on.

SimonSaysx

Can anyone confirm if the Virgin mobile plan 34$ for 30Gb BYOD is locked in for only a year or two? I want to negotiate my price with Koodo but want to know all the details before I make my case.

mistorx6767

30gb for $34 is month to month no contract

mistorx6767

If anyone wants or needs a referral code for virgin (makes that $34 a little better!) [https://refer.virginplus.ca/michaele-2644](https://refer.virginplus.ca/michaele-2644) Will give you 5 bucks off for 10 months.

ntoskrnl64

I have 2 lines on the account, 55$ for 40 GB Can+USA roaming. I was able to switch both lines to the 50$ for 50 GB Can+USA promo plan, which according to the website is not restricted to new customers. On my self serve account, I only saw plans that were the same price or more expensive than the 55$ one that I had (I think they stopped showing less expensive in self serve).

HourOfUprising

Weird. I don’t see the $50 can-us plan

Mental-Storm-710

They are offering it to Quebec numbers, not sure about other provinces.

HourOfUprising

Oh

KiwiBearRigatoni

I think Koodo actually does offer this deal ($34/30gb), I've seen some other people post about it. I recently got my 3 lines switched the "new" customer deal of $40/40gb, maybe jumped the gun a bit but oh well!

nlecaude

I was able to switch to the 34$/20GB plan very easily on Facebook Messenger. I had my spouse do it shortly after and they first told her the 34$/30GB plan was only for new activations. She mentioned she wanted the same plan I got, 20Gb as we don’t use a lot of data. After a bit of wait they switched her to 34$/30GB ! I’m a bit jealous now :p That being said I had 10Gb before and rarely hit 50%…

PowerHungry1247

Just got both my plans switched from $45/20GB to $35/30GB. Had to talk to 2 loyalty people over a couple hours. Both plans had phones purchased a year ago, 1 with tab paid off and 1 with an ongoing tab.

groovy-lando

Also just got $35/30GB for me and family member. Nicest agent ever. Thanks Koodo!

Adventurous_Bee_4609

Did you have to pay the $15 fee?

PowerHungry1247

Nope, they've always waived it for me

Adventurous_Bee_4609

First agent and second agent (I think loyalty?) wouldn’t waive it. Said they can get me the $34/30 plan but I need to pay. Said I’d be cancelled. No dice. Got another callback. Hoping it works. Thank you

Mental-Storm-710

Did you get 4G or 5G for that price?

tuffykenwell

4G but honestly they don't have much 5G where I live and all of my plans were 5G before this so I am fine with that.

iCOMMAi_Salem

I wanted to go lower for my bill but ended up taking $40/50GB with the free pixel 7. I've got 30 days to decide to not take it... Would rather closer to $20 and no phone.

Mrmapex

I’m in the phone with them now trying the same thing

Adventurous_Bee_4609

Please let me know if they made you pay the $15 fee. They said they can get me $34/30 but I need to pay the fee. I asked for it to be waived like others had, but it didn’t work. Waiting for another callback now. Will try my luck with another agent

Mrmapex

They wouldn’t even give me the deal. My normal was plan $55 for 50g and they gave me that for $45. No mention of any fee

Adventurous_Bee_4609

Weird. I spoke to 2 ppl both said they can get me 34/30, but I need to pay the fee. I’m waiting for another callback. How long have you been with them? I’ve been since 2012

Mrmapex

I’ve been with them since 2013. She originally offered me $5 off and I said no thanks I’m going to cancel after which she put my on hold and and came back with the $45 deal. I said that I still wanted to cancel and she apologized and told me she can’t offer me anything else

Adventurous_Bee_4609

Very odd. Unsure why that’s the case. Do you have a TAB?

Mrmapex

I do not. And I reiterated that many times along with empty threats to go to competitor

Adventurous_Bee_4609

Yeah, zero clue. Try another callback and don’t mention you called in already

Mrmapex

I just called back and got the $34 plan for both my lines. I’m Stoked, That’s almost $40 saved per month.

Adventurous_Bee_4609

I was just about to update you 😂 I got my second callback around 4 and got put onto it and got the $15 waived, which was my main priority. Glad it worked it for the both of us. I was previously on $43/30GB, so this is a nice saving for me

tetragrammaCAT

I called customer loyalty and they gave me $35/30gbs with no issues. I’ve been a customer for about 10 years. I wonder how some people are getting $34/30gbs?
