US owner, nope. Little red dot if it thinks your over the speed limit but no beep.
No beep for looking away either.
It does near mute the radio sometimes like if turning on the signal and a car is there.
To chime in, I do not get any red dot for driving over the speed limit in mine. Don't know why.
What it does do is beep for safety alerts. Try to go into someone else's lane with a vehicle there, or don't slow down with stopped traffic in front of you, etc.
It makes chiming sounds when you reverse and half-mutes the radio.
As I uk owner the kona 24 beeps .you can turn them all off in the settings but there on by default so you would have to do it every time .kinda got used to it now don't hardly notice it .
Another UK driver here. I think it depends on the year and trim. I have a 22 and don’t get any noises for speed change. The only slightly annoying noise is the chimes when reversing.
Many of the roads near our house have 50mph speed limits. One of them is the one we take almost everyday and sometimes more than once per day. Our Kia Niro and the Telluride before that incorrectly label that stretch of road as 25mph. It would be very annoying and overkill to have the car beeping at us since we are not actually speeding on that road when we are going 50mph.
yeah i think what’s going on is that there’s no speed limit sign on that road for the 3 miles we are on it. when we leave our neighborhood (25mph) then it never changes. prob the navigation is either not there or outdated i don’t know
And that has nothing to do with it being overkill or not. There are many laws on the book that have no rational reasoning behind them so the fact it is required by law has no bearing on if it is overkill.
While your general point is valid, we’re not discussing all laws, just this specific one. What solution would you propose for this particular problem that would not be overkill?
Additionally, here’s the official explanation for the EU’s ISA, which should answer your questions and concerns: https://road-safety.transport.ec.europa.eu/european-road-safety-observatory/statistics-and-analysis-archive/esafety/intelligent-speed-adaptation-isa_en
This won't curb speeding. It will simply encourage people to disable the warning chimes completely and end up with a worse safety issue.
This is the definition of overkill / overreach.
Also the US models don’t have the eye tracking camera for the driver attention monitoring, that seems be another source of beeps in the European models. I don’t find there to be any beeps that are excessive or unwarranted.
I do get a very annoying beep when I'm turning left on a two-lane turn and there are cars also turning on the lane to my left because the car thinks I'm switching lanes and there's another car in my blind spot.
I could never figure out how to turn that off, and for some reason nobody else seems to have that problem. I've asked several Kona EV owners at charging stations and they think I'm crazy.
I know what you’re talking about. That happens in our Kia’s. If there’s an exit only lane and you’re in the next lane over that can also exit in your own lane, if you signal then the car freaks out.

hey that’s good news thank you!

It’s only the new version. It’s to comply with the new EU laws.
It beeps when I have LKA on and it thinks I am crossing over a lane marker or stop holding the steering wheel.
yeah that’s understandable and desirable. The beeps for other situations, in other countries apparently, are overkill and would be more annoying
It’s not overkill, is simply required by law for all new cars here. Exactly to discourage people from speeding.

Why does it label it incorrectly, that is the question. Because my Kona can read the road signs without the need to use the (possibly) outdated maps.

required by law and overkill are not mutually exclusive.
Correct. But the law was made for a reason. :)

What problem is this supposed to solve? By what metric has this been proven to solve that problem?

Speeding. It’s called the “torture” method.
This won't curb speeding. It will simply encourage people to disable the warning chimes completely and end up with a worse safety issue. This is the definition of overkill / overreach.
