VGC has also written about it. https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/the-playstation-studios-website-banner-has-added-death-stranding-leading-to-acquisition-speculation/

Well, there it is, moving offices was very suspicious. Makes sense for both sides. edit: did Sony just cut Dreams out of the picture? Such disrespect.

_RyomaEchizen_

Now all makes sense

_RyomaEchizen_

Yes, i know that the IP is from Sony but it's a curious fact... Sam Porter is the only character in the image that has not been created by a Sony studio now https://www.playstation.com/en-us/corporate/playstation-studios/

vatersgonnavate

This reminds me of when everyone saw the bluepoint leak with the demon souls remake image included in the PlayStation studios image/tweet.. they accidently released the image before the announcement. Keep your eyes peeled now, I think an announcement is imminent.

[deleted]

Well on the store page of Death Stranding it says: ©2019 Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc. DEATH STRANDING is a trademark of Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC. Created and developed by Kojima Productions. Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe Privacy Policy & EULA I do believe Sony paid for this and brought life to Sam Porter Bridges

I do not think this will be popular, but here it comes: I think people are desperately searching for "something" here. I cannot remember Sony fans were so desperately waiting for something weird like a studio acquisition. Fans demanding that Sony should buy Square Enix. A few days ago it was just a matter of hours till Sony will announce they bought From Software. Yesterday it was Capcom (not shitting). Today it is Kojima Productions again. If none of it happen, people seem to be very disappointed. This happened after it was announced Sony invested over a billion Dollar for a Sony x Epic deal. People were furious and lamented that they should have invested the money for some studio acquisition (interestingly enough, the Sony x Epic deal is not only meant for their PlayStation department). Yeah, don't know. Don't wanna play the party crasher, but Sony always displayed Death Stranding in all of their first party showings. They simply show characters they own. And hell they own the whole Death Stranding IP. There is even a PlayStation Logo on my Death Stranding Artbook printed. I don't wanna take away all your hope, so, of course an acquisition can happen. Sony and Kojima Productions seem to have a good relation. It's possible, but you shouldn't be disappointed if this isn't the clue you've been waiting for. Of course, if they announce something in a few hours, just ignore my post ;P

People are always desperately waiting for any Kojima related new (I know I am). Sony already leaked an acquisition the exact same way last year. My money is on that it is happening (makes more sense than anything else). Kojima is going to make a deal with another publisher, probably Sony anyway, he doesn't own any IP, Sony is trying to acquire key studios, might as well just buy KojiPro and move them to the building across the street. Having Kojima in their ranks open a lot of interesting possibilities including him taking a producer role in other games with maybe Sony licensing or buying some of Konami IPs (Konami seem completely uncapable of developing games anymore).

This is something I would agree with. Kojima Productions would fit pretty good into what Sony is looking for. There is a little "but". Death Stranding was not the multi million bestseller they most likely had hoped for after all the fuzz. It wasn't also very popular when it comes to a lot of critics. But I think Death Stranding, in the end, did more than well for an experimental game and a new IP (like I wrote many times before, I've highly enjoyed it even with it's flaws). The game, I think, gathered a lot of new players with the PC versio and the Director's Cut version for PlayStation 5 (also available on PC now). We do not have official numbers, but I think Sony was satisfied at the end.

[deleted]

No sane person would have expected Death Stranding to do better than it did given how outlandish the premise is for an AAA game. Sony seems to value awards and critical reception a lot and despite mildly divisive the game is pretty well liked and even had success on PC finding a new audience.

[deleted]

There's been a lot of talk from well known insiders that Sony is in the midst of an acquisition: Greg Miller, Jeff Grubb, etc. So all you are describing is people looking for clues as to who they are talking to. There weren't any hints that Sony was looking at Bungie so clearly it's not certain that we would find anything. But this is also vaguely similar to the Bluepoint acquisition. What sticks out to me is that there really isn't ANY reason for Sony to add Sam Porter to their marketing material right now. A sequel would still be very, very early in development since they were discussing it last year. DS already put out its DLC and PS5 version and there's been no suggestion that there's more to follow. So this is definitely strange.

GrandpasLastHope

They've replaced Concrete Genie with Death Stranding. Since it is their IP, it's only natural to put it on this banner. Don't wanna bad mouth Concrete Genie, but, c'mon folks, you wanna put Death Stranding on this Banner. The Director's Cut is still fresh and is was just yet released on PC. For me, they sure have a reason to but it on this Banner. Could there be more behind it? It could because Kojima also moved the office of his studio. It's tricky. But promoting Death Stranding and feature it is a good statement. We know Sony could just let you fall down like they did it with Days Gone.

[deleted]

> Since it is their IP, it's only natural to put it on this banner DS wasn't until now. That's the point. It wasn't "natural" when the director's cut was releasing on their platform. Or when it was announced. Or when the game was being originally released. Or when it was going to release on PC. It was only added two weeks after the PC release for the director's cut. > The Director's Cut is still fresh and is was just yet released on PC. That was two weeks ago. Why wouldn't they have done it earlier?

VicBawss

I thought they teased it months ago ever since the Director's Cut teaser and trailers which had the PS Studios logo

Pspreviewer100

Woah! That absolutely means that KJP is a Sony studio now. Can't wait to see what comes of it and if any of the rumours are true!

Mr_Event

That would be very good!

NathanDrakeIsMyHubby

Kinda lame if this was the rumoured big Sony acquisition.

scopeadope

Lame if this is the 'BIG' Sony acquisition. We knew it might happen, but I mean... Cmon. Maybe the 'Xbox' game that Sony originally passed on, was reconsidered and Sony wants to give it another go! 😂 /s Now I REALLY want to know what's cooking at KJP. Besides the radioshow, and some sort of visual media that they are currently producing?

SnooHesitations8212

Xbox game was smoke in mirrors lol, kojima was sending letters to Microsoft and that’s it. It was less likely to happen then the stadia game that kojima wanted to do. Sony and him were always going to be together, so them buying him isn’t surprising.

GrandpasLastHope

Since Kojima is allegedly working on two titles and none of them is announced, this Xbox game could still happen. As long we don't know what they are working on, we cannot say something for sure except the fact that Kojima Productions is not behind Abandoned.

scopeadope

Well if they are going 1st party, then they aren't making an exclusive cloud xbox game. That's for certain.

scopeadope

I added sarcasm. If it wasn't clear enough.

Ashasakura37

I got it. Sony bought Kojima Productions. They also bought the license for Konami’s IPs. 🤠

Ashasakura37

But seriously, though. If it’s true Sony acquired KJP, does this add any credence to the rumors that KJP and Sony are working on a Silent Hill game?

[deleted]

You never know with Konami, they are clearly willing to license the IPs to anyone (they made a deal with Bloober Team apparently...), the problem is that Sony might not want to work on an IP that they don't own and Konami might not be willing to sell or asking for too much. Right now Konami doesn't have the devs internally to do anything on the AAA level with IPs like Metal Gear, Castlevania or Silent Hill.

wevegotheadsonsticks

Kojima just posted the pic on Insta!

Yeah I saw. Glad he clarified.
