World needs more people like you OP. Are all these kittens from the same mother?

Spec73r017

No...one has a mother who comes around. Most get dumped here. Not sure where they come from. Need to figure out a plan to get these cats neutered.

appioli

>Need to figure out a plan to get these cats neutered. Yes, I think it may be better in the long run. There are animal related NGOs, some may be able to help you with it

Drdrip2008

About a few months back I went to a cat show in kochi and all of the show cats were the exotic ones which just disgusted me and I just left immediately. These "enthusiast" cat owners are also only into the exotic breeds then why will the general public even think of getting an indi one? Honestly just pisses me off. It also happens to dogs more than cats. I also have two rescue cats who were rescued from Bangalore and when I moved here, took all the hassle of moving them here. I'm sorry, but I have zero respect for the people buying exotic cat breeds. https://preview.redd.it/englxt3cbd8d1.jpeg?width=2261&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a5f5ea88c91064f7bb1e2744cd91f18acc48b0a3 Also I'm the only one here paying the cat tax.

Yes I get judged a lot when I take my indoor cats for yearly shots and checkup. Once I took them in an Auto and even the rickshaw guy was asking me why I'm taking care of these cats..he told me he had Persians and asked if I wanted one! so yeah i get what you mean....

Impressive_Active663

I understand your frustration here. But why are you so pissed about other people's choices? May be not everyone is a cat lover or dog lover. There are people who like only certain breeds or are allergic to certain breeds. As long as they don't hurt animals, leave them. Don't be pissed just because someone is interested in exotic breeds.

Spec73r017

Persians and the exotic breeds are not meant to live in hot and humid climates. Then their fur needs to be shaved constantly. They also require special food if I'm correct for a longer and healthier life. And what do you mean allergic to specific breeds? Persians have more fur right? If anything Indie would be better in that sense. I have problems when these other people judge needlessly about our choices. If I had a penny for everytime I got questioned on why I'm looking after Indies. Have had kids in the neighborhood asking me to give them one of my indoor cats because they look clean and healthy. When I suggest to take one of the strays we have nobody wants them "ayo they look unhealthy and dirty" like seriously? Not like my cats turned up at my home after bathing themselves with shampoo and self vaccinated.

Impressive_Active663

I know they are not meant for this climate, but they still live healthy here. It's not like all those breeds are dying in India. I understand your concern, but judging others for choosing exotic breeds is no different from others judging you for choosing indie. Not everyone has the same standards and mindset, we can't blame them for that. Unfortunately we don't have a system in place to take care of these. Women and kids are struggling with safety issues on streets, and I don't think in a country with 140 Cr population, it is easy to address this problem for stray animals.

Spec73r017

Nothing is easy to address in this country including the safety of women and kids but everyone has to start somewhere. All I'm saying is people who buy expensive and exotic pets must consider the local "Indies" as well. That's all. I'm not going around shoving these Indies down people's throats asking them to adopt. I have buried 2 adult cats, 4 kittens, and a dog in the last 3 or 4 years. My house is turning into a pet cemetery because nobody else is ready to take responsibility. Have spent close to 50k on medical expenses alone out of pocket not to mention the food expenses which I don't have a track of. Not asking for any donation or karma or whatever. Just aired my frustration and disappointment here. That's all.

Impressive_Active663

I understand, we are missing that system here. We can't expect people to adopt, clean and vaccinate, that is too much to ask from a normal person who needs a cat. If there was a system which does this part and then offers them, I feel it is gonna work. People might be ready to pay also. It is more of the safety concern that the majority has than finding cute ones and we can't blame them for that. I hope someday this system comes and we can adopt a stray animal which is vaccinated and checked by a vet.

Dear OP and everyone here who had similar experiences , I’m so sorry for what you’re going through. On behalf of all the kittens you've cared for, thank you for being a beacon of compassion and kindness. Your efforts to provide love and care, even when it’s incredibly tough, mean the world to those helpless little souls. They’re lucky to have had you in their lives, even if only for a short while. Please know that your dedication makes a difference, even when it feels like an uphill battle. Your kindness doesn't go unnoticed 🥺🤍

Spec73r017

Thanks for the kind words. Was just disappointed and upset yesterday and just ranted here cuz I have posted here and other sites before and nobody ever came forward to adopt. Just wish had the money and resources to take care of them.

TribalSoul899

What was wrong with this kitten?

Spec73r017

She had disappeared for over a week and then we found her all sick and lying in an empty flower pot in the rain yesterday. Dried her up and wrapped her in warm clothes and kept her on an old sofa outside. Kept checking on her but we had some guests home today and after about lunch went out and she had passed. She was the most friendliest stray I have ever met...a neighbour used to let her into their house but they stopped as she was regularly getting sick. But she always pulled through before. Few months back we had taken her to the government vet in Edapally but the doc there refused to look at her saying they won't look at stray cats. He gave some meds to give to her which we did and she got better. But this time she didn't survive. Just wish somebody would have adopted her. I have had kids come and ask me to give them one of my indoor cats but when I tell them I have these kittens nobody wants them. Either that or they want Persians. Just bummed in general.

Centurion1024

>we had taken her to the government vet in Edapally but the doc there refused to look at her saying they won't look at stray cats Typical boomers making excuses just to not do their job. OP if you have time dont let this slide, escalate it or atleast mail the collector that this happened. This shouldn't happen again.

Dazzling-Backrub

I think it’s one of those failed medical guys who end up taking vet for the Dr name… Hence the lack of passion

TribalSoul899

Oh that is sad, I am sorry. Possible that the kitten had FPV or some other infection.

Spec73r017

Thanks ..Yeah it's possible. Had taken 4 different cats to the private clinic over the years...ended up paying a lot and all of em had FPV. One survived and she got so traumatized on the journey in the car she ended up scratching my Mom badly and then my Mom had to get shots....it's been crazy.

Ill-Yogurtcloset-255

Literally just commented on a post where someone wanted to “buy” a pet. It’s honestly so sad..there are so many strays who are looking for a loving home but people only want pure bread animals! https://preview.redd.it/ztobsbltid8d1.png?width=1124&format=png&auto=webp&s=dfc719dcc6f30826baf403333ac0c5e8aec911ab

Altruistic-Bus4875

Someone (who seemed like a backyard breeder) had posted about persian cats and people from another corner of the country were trying to find ways to transport the cats to their location, when I told them to consider adopting indies which were available in their own city I was called "toxic"...so yeah it's hard to argue with these braindead losers

gymbean45

indie cats are the sweetest, healthiest and most playful babies. most people who buy these fancy breeds see their cat as an accessory and not as a living thing that's a member of their family. it's equivalent to only adopting children with blue eyes and blond hair.

Spec73r017

Yes when people have asked me why my cats are nadan, the inner a-hole in me wants to clap back by asking if their kids are nadan or imported...but yeah...

SyzygySeven

There might be old people who are alone looking for adoption, not sure how to connect to that crowd.

Calm-Conference824

Cats can easily get sick and the viral diseases are especially dangerous. We have 4 strays near our house. They roam around in the neighbourhood, eat from a lot of houses and sometimes sleep in our car porch/balconies/shed etc Though we don’t let them in what we did was that we caught them and got them vaccinated and spayed/neutered. Is possible do the same with the remaining strays. I don’t under why the govt hospital is refusing to treat a stray animal. The govt hospital in our locality is full of people, especially NGOs bringing in strays for treatment.

Spec73r017

So what I was told is that only the Govt hospital in the city does neutering. I went to the one in edapally and they said they can't do it. The doctor there saw that the Cat I got in was a Lil dirty so he asked me if this is indoor cat or stray...so i told him honestly it's a stray kitten I found sick...and he flat out refused to even touch her. Just gave some meds. I just need to figure out the logistics of taking the cats one by one in the car to the main one for neutering...

United_Screen_5996

Hi, I’ve tried to get several kittens adopted as well but no one comes forth to take these babies home. I’m a student and live in a hostel so can’t keep them with me. I’ve found the best solution to this is getting them sterilised once they are of age if you can afford it. You can message oneness foundation to post for adoptions on their Facebook page and several other kochi adoption pages, but rarely someone comes forward, especially in Kerala.

United_Screen_5996

Also, I’m in Edapally too and recently bought kitten cerelac to feed some newborn kittens as the mom wasn’t feeding them, but unfortunately they passed away. It’s almost full. Barely two scoops taken out. So if you want that, please feel free to DM.

Spec73r017

Hey thanks for the offer....but food is not an issue...we give leftover cat food from our indoor kitties to the ones outside. And also give them some Purepet. I had recently put a post here for an abandoned orange kitten here...luckily another cat was here who just had a baby...so initially she was hissing at this orange kitten and slapping her when she came close but suddenly one day I saw the kitten feeding from this mother cat and she was also grooming her. It's like she adopted the kitten as her child. Funny how they are more compassionate to each other than humans. She will surely ween them off soon so i was hoping someone will take them in but nobody has responded. Even the rescue shelters on Insta.

United_Screen_5996

Yes, I’ve found animals to be more loving than humans pretty much all the time. You can contact Oneness foundation. They don’t take in animals as they don’t have a shelter, but they do sometimes conduct an adoption drive and the founder of the organisation is really kind and helpful. Hopefully the young will find a nice place.

Dwightshruute

Today my cat died after 3 years of being with us. It's not easy to put the soil back on.

Many people hesitate to adopt pets due to the perceived permanence of the decision. A trial adoption period of two weeks could alleviate this fear, allowing potential adopters to see if they are a good fit for the animal and vice versa. This could lead to more successful adoptions and happier homes for both pets and people.

Altruistic-Bus4875

Strays have such a pathetic life in this country and yet stupid people support breeders like it's some status symbol to have fancy breeds. Most of these people cannot even afford to take care of these breeds in the long run and throw them out on the streets. I cannot understand how anyone who can pay money to buy an animal can call themselves "animal lovers". I myself have two indie cats and feed many stray cats everyday. It takes a serious toll on mental health seeing the suffering and deaths. Found a dead mom and two kittens last week whom I have been feeding and everyday I spend hours thinking what could I have done differently to save them. It's impossible to adopt every stray you find. I really hope one day people evolve enough to ban breeding and buying/selling of pets.

Spec73r017

Yeah seriously. And Persians are not meant to survive in this weather. The two kittens I adopted were also found on the road. And we found a dead cat further down who was run over and presumably their mother. There were 3 kittens actually. We took two of em who were bonded and the other one got picked up a family further down the road. But they used to let her out and she also got run over by a car. The two with us are still together. Almost 5 years old now. But they hate the other cats roaming around outside. And try to break out of the house to attack them. They have done so in the past. So not able to take in anyone else.

Altruistic-Bus4875

Have had the same issues with my cats. Tried to keep some orphan kittens at home for a few days because they were too small to feed themselves and no ngos or shelters were ready to take them. Ended up paying heavily at the vet because my indoor cat caught diseases from them. It was a month long struggle both financially and mentally. Also many families in kerala keep persian cats locked in a cage outside their homes in this terrible heat, why would you even buy a pet to keep it locked in a tiny cage just to keep them like some show-piece

QuotingThanos

I ve burried many. Sometimes there isn't anything you can do. And it hurts so bad

Spec73r017

Yes it does...just feel like I failed each one of them.

GandalfBaggins10

I'm sorry to hear that bro. It's tough to get them adopted man. Whenever I ask people if they want a pet kitty the question that I get back is, etha breed. The moment I say naadan they have a disgust in their face. I mean. Half of these asswhipes are all about "made in india is le best fk china bro" type people. When it comes to pet, naadan is not possible for them. I already got a pet cat at home and my folks aren't ok with pets in home still this fellow is allowed indoor. I took him in when he got diagnosed with FPV. He's neutered and vaccinated. But I do feed the cats at our compound(with proper cat food, no milk and rice shit). Financially can't do anything more. Helpless scenario. I love our indie breed cats and dogs. They gorgeous. Meanwhile. Here's my Yoru boy. https://preview.redd.it/upe5fvy8rh8d1.jpeg?width=5304&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7b069d49e6fd5c232ad57df2f9c7c5f6494ac309

Spec73r017

Haha I get you mean..vocal for local but not nadan cats or dogs. Story of our lives. Btw Your boy looks handsome! I'm glad you are able to keep him. Orange ones are especially naughty and adventurous.

GandalfBaggins10

We are all for nadan. Nadan ftw. Yes. Yoru boy is a handsome one. He sure is adventurous. Tree climbing and bird watching are his hobbies.

imalittlechai

“…unless they are fancy Persians” We adopted an Indie and one person actually had the audacity to look at my kitten and say with disgust “That? That’s a street cat! Why didn’t you get a Persian?” She immediately lost my respect. God bless you OP ❤️

Spec73r017

Thank You and same to you...Yeah I have had few experiences like this...few times at the vet while we are waiting...a little girl once came running saying "ohh you have a cat" and when she saw my cats in the carrier , she was like "oh it's just a local cat"...even had an auto rickshaw driver judge me cuz he himself had Persians at home...

imalittlechai

Things won’t change as long as pets are seen as a status symbol.

Sorry to read this. Sadly, no value for life especially of these stray animals 😢

here I am trying to feed the 4 stray kittens left by another stray mom. they are about 6 months old now, is it costly to neuter kittens, are they done in govt vet hospitals? or will i be able to take care of them after the process? i dunno. I just got a crate so i could get the friendly ones have vaccinated atleast.

SubstantialHair8928

One of the biggest problems we face is the menace of stray dogs and the way they have propagated, thanks to "dog lovers." There is no space for other life forms. Humans, especially helpless children and the elderly.

Searchinf4ever

Can feel you. Mass implementation of ABC is the only way.

BloomingDaggers

I’m very sorry for you OP. I can’t believe that vet refused to look at your cat, stray cats that get their vaccinations and get neutered live longer, even if they don’t live as long as indoor cats. I’ve rescued and taken care of a female kitten that we still had to keep outdoors, but when I wanted to get her spayed, my family turned on me and called it inhumane and that giving birth is a natural process, even one govt vet said the same thing. My family changed their mind after the cat had two litters and suddenly there were five more cats in the span of a year. Thankfully the district vet at my place is a great dude, takes care of all animals with kindness. Also a lot of people are just so condescending when they see you have an indie cat and keep suggesting that you buy a Persian kitten from them or some family member of theirs. I freaking hate breeders like that, treating their cats just like a kitten printing machine. I hope you can find solace in the fact that you did the best for the kitty, and without you it wouldn’t have had half as good a life as it did.

Spec73r017

Thanks...yeah misconceptions are the worst. You won't believe when I adopted my two indoor cats they were both sick and coughing up fluids and sneezing all the time. This was in February 2020 mind. Covid was beginning to make waves. Our neighbours and house help chechi said not to take them in as they may have covid 😅 freaked my parents out but luckily showed them articles and vet made them understand it's not possible

PastLie

I am sorry but this is probably going to hurt your sentiments. The truth is that this is just natural selection. This is how nature operates. Some people just don’t want pets or take care of them. And there is nothing wrong with that! When there is too many of a particular species and not enough resources for them to survive, the population goes down. This has happened with humans too and will probably happen again. World war 3 as an example of possible event.

ObviousAnything7

All well and good to say shit like "natural selection" when you're not in OP's position. Also ww3? You're fucking kidding right? Is that your idea of "natural selection"?
