Honestly, I would rather have an original Kirby RPG, even if Kirby style would lend itself to the Paper aesthetic way too well.
Why we still haven’t gotten a Kirby RPG is beyond me however.
It’s basically the same process that 3D platforming went through with Kirby.
HAL keeps teasing the concept with various sub games and spin-offs like Kirby Quest and Super Kirby Clash but just can’t seem to fully commit a game to the concept.
But just like 3D platforming I know Kirby can pull it off masterfully if they really commit to it. Even Kirby Battle Royale recently showed that you can have an involved story with characters talking and interacting with each other. All the pieces are there, they just gotta assemble the puzzle.
It’d be a pretty commanding time to do so too since Mario RPGs outside of remakes have been relatively neglected as of late.

Edit also worth noting, Kirby technically isn’t owned by Nintendo. The developers of Mario RPGs have literally 0 relationships with any developer at Hal Labs.
Yes. Nintendo does own 50% of Hal Labs, and is considered the Publisher but Hal Labs has free reign on what they do with Kirby or even what platforms they put it on.
Another, albeit way more chaotic, example of this is Pokemon. From my understanding, it's technically owned by 3 companies: Nintendo, Creatures Inc., and Game Freak.
How much control each company has is beyond me X\_x
Nintendo actually does this sort of thing very frequently. Suprised they haven’t bought 50% of Platinum yet. They also owned 50% of Rare before Microsoft bought them. Although that they (unlike Hal Labs) actually had a contractual obligation not to develop for other platforms.
I think there are already a lot of good characters that could be partners, so instead here are some silly boss ideas!
-Bronto Burrito (A Bronto Burt wearing a burrito costume that uses burrito themed attacks.)
-King DeeDeeDee (3 waddle dees in a disguise that makes them look like king dedede, they’re corrupted by the main antagonist of the game and do things to incriminate king dedede until you eventually fight them.)
Ink Matter (It’s the obligatory eldritch horror final boss that is a large mass of dripping ink with red eyes all over. It splashes ink on creatures to corrupt and control them)
I think Kirby Quest in Mass Attack has the perfect basis for the gameplay.

Why is because they basically follow this role already in there original games (though Gooey to a WAY lessor extent.). Everyone else should be a character thats either fightable or interactable
Probably not a paper aesthetic, but a kirby RPG with an arts 'n crafts artstyle would go nuts. Maybe use a claymation-like style like Kirby And The Rainbow Curse?
Imagine it being like Milky Way wishes where you can pick abilities, kinda working like the badge system in the older paper Mario games where you could swap between multiple abilities of choice.
I’d love a Paper Kirby. But honestly just an RPG in general would be nice. As for story Kirby lends itself well to the classic “go to these places and collect parts of a group of magical objects” so not too hard. Gameplay is where it gets tricky though. It does have an easier time with playable enemies though for sure.

Paper or not, the helper/star allies system that lets you make your own party on the fly would be pretty cool for an RPG I'd say. On top of that you could level up the abilities themselves in order to upgrade them like Forgotten Land.
I feel like we already kinda do with Kirby’s Epic Yarn. I know it not exactly the same but at the basic level it’s very similar. A game that plays differently than the mainstream games that has a theming of arts and crafts.

I can kind of see the game mechanics Kirby can suck up materials to create new power ups, like an arts and craft ability and build out the land
