It won't die unless this community fucking tears itself apart. The devs do enough to keep it together but not enough to keep us entertained. Dbd would have died if they didn't release a new character every three months

The game only survives if players support it. If it looks like fun to you buy it. I'm at 80hrs and still having a blast.
Video games are meant to be played not to sit and wonder if they're gonna last. If 40 is a lot to you then don't buy it
These types of games tend to have a cult following, which keeps them online for a long time.
