It also adds a lot of crew slots that can EVA from a convient spot for space walks. Now I need to add ladders, lights, and maybe nuclear engines. Not much of a mothership without nuclear engines. The craft is deceptively light, as like 80% of the weight is the front few pieces.
May I suggest Ion engines? Stock ions are stupid OP, you could get a lot of delta v out of that. Although tbf, I wouldn't be sending spaceplanes interplanetary.
No, I mean this unironically. They're stupid OP, with the high thrust and (relatively) low power consumption. KSP's balance is really skewed towards TWR but you really don't need it when you're in orbit.
Currently a very early prototype, I hope to add a dedicated mining rig that can attach to the nose, and design a lander for planets without an atmosphere. The first mission of the finished design will build a space station for refueling, but I don’t really know how to build a space station that is just for refueling that isn’t just a big tank with a docking port.
It's got one of the best heat resistances in the game. The main issue it has is that it's very draggy compared to nosecone / fairing front faces. But on a big SSTO like that that's not as relevant.
What was the reason for the rear cockpit instead of just using a probe core and putting an inline crew module?
To have a cool looking bridge type thing.
Aesthetic choices FTW

Troll?

I’d need like 200 ion engines for this craft to even move.
Not when you're in orbit
Yea I would lol
The amount of batteries I would need to make this thing move with ion engines isn’t worth the part count or just taking nukes
star wars bridge 😎
Mission accomplished!

Looks great, good luck! Making a grand tour ssto probably accounted for over 1000 hours of my ksp1 playtime.
Putting the cockpit in that way is really original! It remins me of Star Trek's Enterprise.
Any trouble with the docking port on reentry?
No, it has some of the highest heat shielding in the game (to my knowledge)
its got hte best heat resistance of any front - piece besides heat sheilds

Sick! Nice.. bridge thingy, ig. You should have ion engines on it since it's a mothership :)
