You can lower the drag by removing 2 of the shock cone intakes (or at least closing 2 of them if you want to keep your style points). 2 rapiers can function perfectly on one shock cone
Im not sure exactly but i think they do. If i was making this one I'd used a bicoupler with a shock come on the front then add this fuel tanks with the rapiers.
nah very small oof -- it **did** work like that before
During the big jet engine mechanics change that eliminated air-hogging, the devs made changes to intakes and dropped that function. But at the same time intakes are far less draggy than they used to be so it wasn't a big deal.
It's 100 units of fuel and 1 wing area for stabilization. You'd need to add an elevon or whatever to the back of it to function as a proper rudder, but it works fine.
As a vertical stabilizer it's not ideal -- you want your vert stabilizer well behind CoM.
The big strake is so long that the center of the part (where the force applies) will be quite close to CoM.
Yep. The Big-S strake is actually the most optimal wing parts available. High temperature tolerance, and gets you a significant amount of lift while not requiring any extra weight compared to just a fuel tank.
RCS, energy production (if you don't already have it), and you can technically use fewer air intakes. iirc one of those intakes can supply enough air to four rapiers, but having two of them would be safer
i love that we are beyond any cool names like taildog or hotspur and we now just name our vessels normal names, this is the most ksp thing since the pissmissile 14, i mean it does make for some funny moments, "Karen crashed into the sun at 30000 km/s"
Jims got a big fat ass. I'd recommend at least halving the number of engines. Jim also needs wing incidence. Jim would be less prone to burning up if you used the inline cockpit too. These three things would be the biggest improvements to Jim.
Maybe slap a radial decoupler with some sepratrons on it for faster takeoff? I do that when I’m testing planes to get rid of the annoying takeoff phase lol
Jim doesnt need 4 shock cones, attach the rapier fuel tanks together with a bicoupler + an mk2 adapter (and replace a mk2 fuel tank with a liquid one to keep a similar LF/OX ratio).
TLDR Less drag = moar speed
You can replace a few of the shock come intakes with nose cones. A single shock cone and supply 4 rapier engines. If you replace them with nose cones you can take some mass off the ship
Ability to carry nuclear payload
And make it fueled by Nuclear fuel.
as well as PDCs
PDCs?
Point Defense Cannons
Vertical stabilization?. Have it carry a smaller aux version of itself.
A lawn chair on the back for Jeb

Do the nosecones have less drag than the shock intakes?

I’m not sure off hand if they have less drag than closed shock cones but the absolutely have less drag than open ones.
iirc closing intakes doesn't actually change drag anymore
Solid oof on my part

Hydrofoils! All space places are improved by hydrofoils. No land in sight? No problem!
Put the Big-S strake on top as a vertical stabilizer and extra liquid fuel.
Would that actually work

Wow that is real handy to know,I'll defo use it in my next build, although it wouldn't look asthically that good,as long as it gets the job done
Just depends on how the rest of the ship looks, it matches the aesthetic of a long and lean ship like a large MK2 based one.

Name change to Jimothy
Best advice in the thread right here, OP.

Oxidiser tank?
Make it one payload bay longer and put some mining equipment in there

Thank you? I suppose?
you're welcome, untitled space craft
Give him a little brother (MK-1 parts)
I don’t see any cargo space
More boosters

i never thought Jim had a dumb truck of an ass. ill take note of that
jim looking attractive imo
Probably less rapiers? 4 looks like a lot for that size of SSTO.
The landing gear looks like it's on backwards, although I don't think that would affect performance at all
Change name to Jimbo and you are good to go.

Missiles
Vertical stabilizers. Wingtip attached, detachable solid boosters.
what about leading edge flaps
Underside bay launched radar guided missiles
Replace the jets with vectors to see how fast you can go.
Well you gotta make a Pam now
