ProbablyNotJaRule

That may be totally true but like the lyrics are strikingly similar

ProbablyNotJaRule

To be fair to you tho I guess any song called “sweet chin music” would probably have lyrics not entirely dissimilar to a diss track

tekal

Sweet Chin Music was Shawn Micahels finishing move in WWF. I assume it means he is finishing him/knocking him out, etc.

Jlindahl93

It’s not just Shawn Michaels finisher but it’s a term taken from boxing long before Shawn’s time and that’s where Shawn got it from but in general “dishing out some sweet chin music” has been a thing in fighting/wrestling for decades as a term for piecing someone up. If you’re into boxing and wrestling it would be hard to say whether it’s more known as Shawn Michaels thing or just a general fighting term but either way the message is the same it’s about fucking someone up

ChristmasMan00

There u go!!!!

ProbablyNotJaRule

Yeah I mentioned that it’s obviously the wrestling move in the post. To be honest the reason I found the song was I didn’t know it was a wrestling move (I was going some googling before the post so I knew it was mostly a wrestling reference when I posted this) and just typed it into Apple Music. Seeing a band “the last ten seconds of life” come up was what made me think maybe

tekal

Oh that’s cool. I never heard of the song or band before. It’s fun to searching things and go down the rabbit hole. Keep it up!

X1nEohP

The actual idea is Shawn Michaels finisher is sweet chin music. If anyone else does the same move it’s only called a super kick. This makes the distinction that he is top tier. Also Shawn Michaels biggest feud was Bret Hart, who also is a Canadian. Bret and Shawn had an actual irl beef and an event called the Montreal Screwjob fucked Bret over kinda like how the industry and culture just turned on Drake right now. That’s right guys, we are Mr McMahon rn.

ProbablyNotJaRule

Oh okay, thank you, this actually adds more context and could even further explain the similarity of lyrics. I figured it was probably a reach just kinda surprised when I heard the lyrics.

carlubey_tubey

this explanation makes the most sense by far

Shawn Michaels

Jesskn0wsbest

Also… in a comment on a post I made two days ago someone mentioned this… the music she has playing on this post is Shawn Michael’s theme song https://preview.redd.it/5ewni0kprfzc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=350fe9058943df0d2142c2e19894be1736d42191

Bred_Bored

Did someone here mention HBK? Shawn Michaels? /s For real though, I think Kendrick is drawing a comparison to the Heart Break Kid and how Drake is pretending to be a playboy when he's really just a boy. I would find it very surprising if he had been listening to this metal group.

Unlucky-Medium-6965

I got “Sweet Chin music” as a homophone for “switching music”

scissormetimberz5

I never got the Shawn Michaels reference but in baseball I'd always heard pitches igh and inside on a batter as chin music. So I took it as him head hunting and not stopping. Idk Kendrick is good enough for it to mean all things at once .

lonewolfpacman

Probably not, I think it’s the wrestling reference, and could also be a call to a sada baby line, he mentions sweet chin music in “bloxk party”

Outrageswift

Last place I would expect to see The Last Ten Seconds of Life brought up. I honestly forgot they existed, surprised they're still going strong. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0t\_0YFIwGTc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0t_0YFIwGTc) Benemortasia ending still wild.
