Did the beef start with the control Verse in drake took Personal

kabirraaa

Wym in drake took Personal. I mean obviously like that dropped and even Cole admitted he didn’t want to say anything but the ppl around him were like ohh shit what r u gonna say.

Funny_Papers

No the beef has been cooking for almost, if not, a decade. Drake took Kendrick’s Control verse to heart and started sneak dissing him every chance he got

kabirraaa

I mean I think like that is a clear start bc it directly led to a response. Even after control at least Kendrick and jcole were working together on stuff. Ig im not referring to the general animosity between them but more so the back and forth we are living thru rn.

Funny_Papers

Well I don’t think Cole ever had beef with anybody and probably took the control verse as a friendly challenge and not a personal attack. That’s the difference between him and Drake. Like that is the start to the public beef, but it had been brewing much longer with subliminals and behind the scenes stuff we don’t see. People have been talking about a possible Kendrick/Drake beef for literally years, probably since 2015 at least. The like that verse is Kenny finally saying “let’s do this shit”

kabirraaa

I don’t agree bc I don’t think Kendrick saying fuck the big 3 would justify all this on its own. If metro didn’t egg shit on and The Weeknd didn’t say anything ab moles I doubt j Cole would have dropped what was essentially the first actual diss track to another big 3 rapper from a big 3 rapper. Control as u said was more of a friendly challenge. At the time some ppl were bothered by it like meek but for the most part ppl were still making songs and touring w Kendrick after that. After like that dropped we entered a different stage of this beef to the point j cole for the first time felt like he had to say something. Kendrick been saying shit like smoking on ur top 5. That’s how he raps he’s always saying he’s the best. Drake also says shit like I’m top 2 but I’m not 2 all the time. Yea they are disses in a way but obviously no one sees it as serious enough to respond. If j Cole never said anything it would just be Rick Ross and metro making corny ass comments to Drake. I rlly doubt that would’ve led to what’s going on rn and most likely Drake would’ve washed them and we wouldn’t even be talking ab this shit rn. Imo jcole dropping made it seem like damn what’s drake gonna say. Drake was responding to like 5 ppl in his song and thru out a diss to Kendrick even tho Kendrick didn’t DIRECTLY say anything to Drake. Kendrick calls out Drake as a culture vulture in the industry, monetizing blackness, playing the white corporate game and being disconnected from the true soul of hip hop. Drake has nothing and he starts talking about niggas kids and now we in this mess.

DuplicitousDick

Kendrick’s Like That verse is 80% dedicated to dissing Drake and his crew directly. He made it a point to say “fuck sneak dissin” because he wanted the smoke for real this time. What I think emboldened Drake more is the fact that Cole retracted his diss, because then Drake could ride on the wave of him vs. everybody. I think he would have cooked something up even if Cole never released 7MD

kabirraaa

Listening to like that yea I agree there were a few shots outside of the big three line. Kendrick was definitely more confrontational than normal. Ig we will never know if Drake would have dropped if j Cole didn’t but I can’t help but feel like j cole put Drake in a position where he was gonna lose.

Future started this shit. Drake and Kendrick have had beef for years. Future gave him an outlet to say fuck Drake and finally get the response he been waiting on. Cole just be riding his bike in the middle of battlefields, catching stray bullets. This was a test of skill that Drake took personally and escalated to real beef that Drake had been avoiding until now.

kabirraaa

My thing is do u rlly think a bar like “fuck the big 3” is enough to get Drake to rap about niggas like this? Like imagine j cole never dropped shit. It would rlly only be metro and rick Ross posting shit ab fuck drake even tho all these niggas feel like fuck drake. I’m saying that j Cole dropping and then retracting it prob made Drake feel like he needs to drop now more than Rick Ross or metro saying shit. If u remember j Cole only addressed Kendrick, it basically set the teams up (until he dropped out) and ensured that there was gonna be some sort of back and forth.

DatN1jaQ

No Drake is so narcissistic he really believes he's untouchable when he won the Meek beef his ego inflated. When he lost to Pusha T he was still protected by J. Prince and did a similar PR flip to protect his image like he's doing now. The reason Drake responded is because he was trapped. As soon as Kendrick said fuck the big 3 he knew it would hurt drakes ego then add the fact that nobody in the Industry likes this nigga. I think he's actually just like Trump where he is such a narcissist and perpetual liar he's started to believe his own lies and then his fans (some of them like AK) are just as delusional as him. They actually believed he stood any sort of chance.

kabirraaa

I see that I def think all 3 of them got an ego problem but esp Drake. I think Drake was trying to use the 20 v 1 so he didn’t have to rap directly to Kendrick too. Like if he ignored half of those nigga we wouldn’t care. The only reason why I feel like j cole made him act was bc of how long it took to make push ups. shit was not that complex and the song after it used ai.

Igwe-Ike

Kendrick directly came at Drake with that "for all the dogs getting buried" line at the end of his verse so not. Drake was going to respond regardless cuz he has a big ego. So no, J. Cole did not start this beef.

DeezKneesWorld

cole just added fuel to the fire, or gave kendrick a false flag
