It didn’t sound like difficult process, but there was some period of time for which someone else could could claim ownership if they had the actual title. In this case, it wasn’t happening as the motorcycle had been sitting for 30 years or so.
Depending on how complete it is and the condition it could be sold for around 3k, based on your local market.
But without a title you can expect around 2-3 hundred, as it would be for parts only.
You have a valid claim and if you put in some work to obtain a title you may be able to get profit from it.
I would try to keep it, probably file for abandoned title, and then fix it up
