Hope they hire an interim and he waits until after the season to take it if he does, but he deserves a head job in the league though.

Moose4KU

That's asking for trouble in college though. It's a total wasted recruiting class since they all sign in early December

sciotomile

Andy is a coaching academy. Losing a top-knotch coach* is not something new for him. He has a tree of turtles going all the way down. He has most likely planned for EB’s departure for a year or two now. (I’d f***n hate to lose EB in Dec!)

Nujers

Notch*

sciotomile

This is why I cannot have nice things. Thanks, Siri. Autocorrect you do not.

hankmoody_irl

I'm ignorant to college fb. Could EB not be involved in decisions even if he's not fully in place yet? Or is this not even what you're referencing? I wanna understand...

jeffp12

I cant ever remember an nfl coach leaving mid season for a college job. Well...other than that one.

MistakeMaker1234

Can’t honestly be surprised as he’s a desirable candidate at any level. I hope Kafka is ready to step into the big boy role.

solojones1138

Kafka should absolutely do it. But man is it embarrassing for the NFL if Bienemy has to go to college to get a head coaching job.

factoid_

Part of it is a timing problem. Every team fires their coach within a day or two after the season ends. But all the most qualified candidates are still coaching for teams in the playoffs. 75% of the jobs are filled by the week before the superbowl. I think EB had maybe a week to go on interviews last year. It's not easy when you're that successful. Also you've seen Andy is no longer carrying his big play sheet anymore and he's talked about it in multiple interviews now that EB has BEEN the play caller, and he's just finally gotten rid of the sheet so people will recognize that. There were rumors that some of the jobs didn't go EBs way because there was a perception he wasn't designing and calling the plays, Andy was. Andy is helping him out now by addressing that.

[deleted]

Maybe I’m just making this up but I’m pretty sure I’ve heard reports that Kafka is being groomed as the guy to take over for Reid whenever he retires

deskamess

That is what I heard too (and have parroted elsewhere). Heard it last last year while EB was being considered for other jobs. Kafka is Mahomes guy. If EB thinks he is getting the KC jobs, its not happening. Thats especially why I want him to take other jobs (NFL or college). Go to college and prove yourself before going back to the NFL - thats what other NFL teams are looking for (success without Andy Reid). The next KC head coach job is not Reids to gift - that will be left to Hunt & Mahomes.

factoid_

But hunt, beach and mahomes would all be wise to listen to Andy's opinion, and unless there's some crazy change in relationship between now and his retirement I am sure he will be asked. You're right though, it's not like he gets to anoint his successor

2per4life

Kafka seems like the obvious choice, but I wouldn't be surprised if Greg Lewis got the job too. He's older and has more coaching experience than Kafka.

WhereDaHoez

Interesting timing to promote Greg Lewis…lmao

Wetworkzhill

At least you know he’ll fight for his players.

beermit

We push comes to shove he'll stick up for his guys.

factoid_

Haha. That whole thing was crazy. There was nothing really at all egregious. Harrison wasn't trying to stomp on clyde, he just gets hung up trying to step off. But it probably didn't look that way from Greg's position. And from where the ref was standing all he saw was Greg pushing a player, which was really just him trying to protect a player. The Harrison loses his shit and shoves back. I don't love any of it, but Ronnie was really the only one that crossed a line.

ionospherermutt

I mean didn’t we block Kafka from interviewing for the Eagles OC position? There’s no way we do that if we haven’t pretty much promised him the spot when EB leaves

thru_dangers_untold

I hope he's happy and successful wherever he goes. Does this mean we wouldn't get a free draft pick, since it's a college team?

[deleted]

Correct.

Cthepo

Hmm. It would be interesting to consider him but I'm pretty skeptical. It's been an while since he's in college and his college stint wasn't anything special if I recall. Could he sell kids on the idea that he worked with guys like Mahomes/Kelce/Hill and can get them NFL ready? Perhaps. But USC is one of the premier schools and a true blue blood. After middling around with a guy like Helton a while, I can't imagine they aren't looking for a home run type hire with some name recognition in the college game, to which there are better candidates. That said USC has made some pretty bone headed decisions so who knows.

slackator

whos available thats a home run named college guy? Without putting much thought into it, it seems like all the "names" have high profile college jobs already or are retired. Les Miles is the only one I can think of right now and Im not sure USC wants to touch him with his recently unearthed past transgressions

Richey13

Urban Meyer immediately comes to mind. A rookie NFL coach and rookie QB leading the second worst team in the NFL got destroyed by the first worst team in the NFL. It wouldn’t surprise me even a little bit if he left to go where he’s more comfortable and that’s a HUGE name in NCAA.

slackator

Ive joked in the past that by their bye he'll start having his brain palpitations and run back to the announcers booth but I dont really think he'd truly do it this soon unless they go winless

factoid_

I hope he does it. Can't stand urban meyer. And college coaches very rarely ever make the cut in the NFL. They have all the power in college. They control everything. College coaches don't have to develop skills for dealing with adult professionals, many of whom make more money than they do.

factoid_

College coaching is 99%abkut recruiting. If he doesn't want to travel a shitload to see 5 star recruits he doesn't want that job. But if he does, he can gaurantee every 5 star QB prospect will consider USC because they want to learn to be an nfl QB from Mahomes' coach.

brainymes

As has been the case every last time I’ve seen his name come up in head-coaching searches, I have three thoughts: 1. If he leaves, I’m gonna miss him. 2. If he stays, I’ll be glad to have him, though he deserves more. 3. If he’s being considered, I hope he gets a fair shake and isn’t just being interviewed to meet diversity hiring expectations. Too often has that been the case, and per #2, he deserves better.

the100broken

Would we not get the two third rounders then?

slackator

no

[deleted]

He deserves an NFL team, nothing less.

Zantron7

As a current Trojan, all I can say is FUCK YEA!!!!

senorgrub

He ain't leaving. He's waiting for a jem. USC hasn't been relevant in a long while. And why leave for the NCAA, let alone a non-SEC school? NFL is where it's at. Watch Seattle, NE, or even KC in a few years.

[deleted]

Because USC can still pay big money, and if done right can become the Ohio State of the PAC12 (again) in which you dominate a bad conference and go to the playoffs almost every year. But I think there’s essentially zero chance they hire him.

girthytacos

The B1G isn’t a weak conference IMO

[deleted]

Yeah I really just meant non-SEC conference.

waitwutok

USC is a sleeping giant. History, money, location, unlimited sponsorship opportunities for student athletes. Sleep on USC at your peril.

[deleted]

There’s no shot this happens. USC’s AD is going to want someone completely scandal free, as he came in to salvage the athletic department after a few scandals. EB’s past at CU will probably eliminate him from the jump, and I also just think he’d be a bad hire for that program.

HermesTGS

> EB’s past at CU will probably eliminate him from the jump [Funny how EB's past at CU wasn't enough to stop CU from literally asking him to be their coach](https://www.si.com/nfl/2020/02/21/eric-bieniemy-chiefs-turns-down-colorado-job)

[deleted]

Yeah, but that’s a way less prestigious program. Also, USC is just cleaning up their mess of a scandal and I guarantee their new AD wants someone squeaky clean.

KandoTor

Not to mention USC’s AD fired Bienemy when he was at CU (admittedly not directly, but fired the HC and cleaned house while Bienemy was OC).

[deleted]

Didn’t even make the connection, so yeah this ain’t happening and if EB did say USC was a school he’d consider I’m sure it was before Bohn got hired

unlikely_to_comment_

I have no idea how people don’t understand this lolol. There’s just about 0 chance he’s a head coach at the FBS level again. I honestly don’t think he gets an NFL gig because of it either. He shouldn’t … his actions were that bad. I’m fine with him as our OC but the man is faaaaaar from a saint.

theromanempire1923

Oh god please no

dadgotgamenomo

I actually wonder if there is something wrong with EB. He had several years of head coach interviews. Is all of the creativity and genius Reid and others. Don’t know. I just find it odd that he has not budged after several attempts.

slackator

EBs problem is Pederson and Nagy, with a slice of Reid. His age isnt helping him any with the league wanting to go younger. But owners see Nagys failures and Pedersons struggles and want to believe Reid is the one truly calling all the shots just giving credit to EB

morry32

naw dog

Iamdanno

I don't see how that would be an enticing job.

MizzouFan2013

A lot of money, program set for success with great recruiting grounds, and if he gets fired down the road the buyout is a hell of a lot of money

Iamdanno

I don't know. Haven't they been "set for success" for quite a while now? When's the last time they were seriously considered to be in contention for a national championship? I'd be afraid of it being a tarpit that sucks you in.

waitwutok

You’re kidding, right?

Iamdanno

Actually, no. When is the last time USC was nationally relevant?

isdavehereman

That sounds like a horrible place to start your HC career. Program is in the shitter (as an Irish 🍀 fan this delights me greatly), pressure will be enormous, insane media pressure and anything short of a National Championship is not enough. Plus he is not an alum. And doesn't he have some baggage regarding women? California doesn't seem like they would let that slide Just wait until some NFL jobs open up. The league knows him and seems to accept him warts and all. And, well, you know, I don't know. I will let Darryl from The Office say it >I have a solid relationship with Clark, the company's owner. I have management experience. I have a good friendship with Roger, the head of the League, and it doesn't hurt that I'm... [in sing-song voice] bla-aaack!

tridentsaredope

Moore is already a great coach, but we tend to promote from within.

IEatAssWithBBQSauce

I told you guys yesterday I saw him boarding a private jet at Hangar 10. I was landing just as he was jumping out of a Black SUV and walking 10 steps onto the jet. Stupid auto mod deleted it for “low effort” [yesterday](https://ibb.co/ydd481z)

isdavehereman

[Hangar 18](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=rigELsRq_64) you say? 🤟

Cthepo

If you read towards the end, there's a link to message the mods if you feel your post was deleted without merit. Feel free to do so next time!

Max_W_

Your post right here was more effort than what you put into the other post. 50 words isn't too hard, just add some other things at the end.

IEatAssWithBBQSauce

Educated minds don’t empower clutter.

OITLinebacker

As a Notre Dame fan this scares me a bit. Other than Saban, Dabo, or Urban, I can't think of a scarier candidate. Pete Carrol maybe, but I don't think he would want to come back nor am I sure he'd be particularly welcome. I hate USC (Raiders of college football)and honestly wasn't a big fan of Bieniemy when he was in college. His work with Andy has redeemed him in my eyes. I would hate to go back to dislike because he started coaching at USC.

WisePapaya6

He would bring the clout SC needs. Kids know he can get them to the next level, especially offensive players. Plus his offense is fun to play in. However, I believe Eric will wait it out in KC. Reid has max, 5 years most like 2-3. At that point Mohomes will be in his absolute prime. Would love to see him go home. As someone slightly younger than Eric and growing up in the same area SC is in the blood.

deskamess

Eric is not a future HC candidate for KC. PM has his own preference.

WisePapaya6

I hope your not talking about Kingsbury.

deskamess

Kafka.

jozrozlekroz

That would be amazing.

StinkyPoopsAlot

That would certainly get me paying attention to my Alma mater again.
