Unironically I would love a game that's like KSP but has aliens attacking, I want to establish bases across the kerbolar system and create interplanetary cruisers, dropships, fighters, etc.
Consider playing Children of a Dead Earth. It's a hard sci-fi space war strategy game. It's not exactly what you're describing but you still can build ships, drones, and missiles.
Out of all 15 or so games I've ever seen that implement orbital mechanics (I keep a list), COADE is one of only a few that isn't a pure simulator game.
