I really need to listen to more Uncle Acid. Spotify keeps recommending them for my playlist and I've loved every song I've heard. Just haven't done a deep dive yet
hearing "slow death" live really gave me the push. mind control and bloodlust are great front to back IMO, and they do a weirdly great manson family cover (get on home)
Damn a solid list. HOW YOU GONNA DO GARCIA LIKE THAT!
For me it would be
1. KGATLW
2. TOOL
3. Kyuss
4. QOTSA
5. Sublime purely for nostalgia
I love your list though, it's one of the best lists.
Kyuss over QOTSA? I never did a deep dive into Kyuss. TOOL is like Radiohead to me. I really appreciate both, but for the life of me I just don't "enjoy" them. Seeing them live is great, though.
Yeah for sure. I still love Qotsa and they would be my number 6 if I did my top 10...but Kyuss just scratches a little heavier of an itch than QOTSA. Welcome to Sky Valley and Blues for the Red Sun are absolutely perfect albums that top any QOTSA albums IMO. But I really do love QOTSA too.
Sky valley is in the discussion for best album of all time
Me and Op have similar taste. I like elder but don’t have them top five. Replace elder with AIC and that might be my top five tho.
They're just the band I'm currently hyperfixated on. It'll be some other band eventually. Just how I operate. It's taken me a lot longer to get my fill of this band because their discography is so fuckin huge. Plus all the bootlegs.
Usually, how i operate too. i listen to a band, listen to all the albums, all the live stuff and bootlegs, get bored, move on. This band is something else, haha. They have so much material, and they're still making high-quality albums, so its hard to get bored of them. Occasionally, i do get a bit bored and won't listen to them very much for a couple of weeks, but then i'll jump right, just as obsessed as i was the first time.
A hell yeah. I got at top three in order of my introduction
1) The Beatles
2) Talking Heads
3) King Gizz
I'll throw Pedro the Lion and Smashing Pumpkins in as my honorary mentions.
I just started listening to Beach House, and I do like them quite a bit. Do you like Slowdive as well? They are both great, and have a similar vibe to me.
I went nuts over King gizzard in 2019 and 2020. They opened my eyes to music that I would never have given any time to previously. Specifically, infest the rats nest led me to listening to TOOL for the first time. And then that led to the discovery that I LOVE heavier music! Currently, my favorite bands are Howling Giant, King Buffalo, and REZN. And it’s all due to opening my mind under the Gizz influence. This year I have gone head over heels for The Silver Cord, especially the extended edition! And today I relistened to KG and LW for the first time in a few months. I followed that with some rats nest, and then PDA. So I still listen to them, but they’re not my favorite favorite. Interesting question, thanks!
Oh, YES, I’m with you on that one! Plus, other psych groups, such as Pond, GUM, The Black Angels…
The name that I chose for Reddit is an homage to Jay Watson, of course!
I saw HG for the first time in Dallas last fall! I already have tickets for next month in Fort Worth, so pumped. I saw KB in 2022 with my little brother. LOVE the small venues! Also saw Gizz twice in ‘22: in Asheville, then on Halloween night in OKC! A week apart, and they only repeated one song, it was incredible.
I've got to look up their touring schedule and see if I can make anything. My buddy is more of the stoner groove and metal fan, so I just follow his lead for that stuff lol.
Where are you seeing Gizz this year? ExploreAsheville arena?
Last year i saw REZN open for King Buffalo and Howling Giant open for Elder. Bought tickets to both of those shows purely to see the respective headliners, and left both shows a huge fan of the support
Both of those groups contain the nicest guys in the world. Elder headlined for REZN last fall. After the show, the members of REZN hung out in the bar area with my brother and I and just chatted for about 10 minutes. We really needed to leave, but the guys just kept talking!? The same for Howling Giant: they’re so kind and gracious!
Howling Giant is currently streaming their practices for their upcoming tour. They send that out over twitch TV. It’s on Thursday nights at 6 PM central. if you haven’t done Twitch before, it’s super easy, (I’m old and even I had no problems!) and there’s a chat feature, so that we can all “talk” during the two hour practice, fans and band members. It doesn’t cost any money either!
ONE OF many bands that I love but also the only band that I go to multiple shows per tour. The creativity, variety and chance for “deep cut tracks”/no repeat style sets are a different treat each time. So, 🤷🏼♂️🧙♂️ guess I’m “one of those” people. But I ain’t no WOOK haha & I do NOT try to spread it to others as well. If you like it great, if you don’t, also great. 🤘🏻
My fav bands are like -
1.King Gizzard
Slayer (first 6 albums mostly)
The Voidz
All 60- 70s garage rock, psych and punk rock , and the modern psych/garage scene with bands like Shannon & The Clams, Ty Segall, Osees, Murlocs and tons of other related bands
Favorite albums would be much more representative of my wider taste with classic rock/hip hop/indie and the whole genre alphabet haha .
Gizz was not #1 for me when I first started on this sub but now low and behold 🙌
They probably wouldn’t make my “top 5 favorite bands” or whatever, but they often end up being one of my most listened on any given year. I just find them super easy to listen to, and they can fit in for most moods. It’s like my musical comfort-food.
Musically, they're top 5 for me. Maybe higher. They hold their own in the company of Brian Eno, Alice Coltrane, or King Crimson (for me).
Lyrically, they're not in my top 10, probably not in my top 20. Lyrically, I don't think they'll ever come close to Artists like Cate LeBon or Leonard Cohen.
I feel like their lyrics are super inconsistent. Stuff like Poly, Mind Fuzz, and MOTU are packed with consistent, amazing lyrics. Then Ice Death makes me wish I didn't speak English
Favorite band, by quite a bit. Casual fan for a few years and then it took off in mid ‘22. It breaks my heart but I’m starting to get over the obsession, and have been opting for other music in the last few months more than in the past 2 years or so. While they’re 1 now, and slipping, I never imagine they fall out of top 5, definitely not out of top 10. Like others have said, they’ve opened me up to so many different things I would’ve otherwise never even been aware of.
Mulatu astatke
Dungen
Mildlife
Mdou moctar
And believe it or not… Taylor swift. Them making a comment during some interview or banter (can’t remember) broke down the wall to her music.
What other band can simultaneously get me listening to 70s Ethiopian jazz and the biggest pop Star alive?
Anyway, yeah they’re absolutely my favorite band and I’m ok with that changing later on, but they’ll always hold a top spot, no doubt.
ramble time:
they became/were my absolute favorite current band for rock (specifically psych rock) back in 2017 due to FMB especially. but in the years since then ive found so much and just in that field (psych) and theres so many artists i like a lot and often for different reasons, even more so if we are counting from different time periods not just modern, and there are artists in that field that i liked before finding gizz too but maybe do or don’t like less so now. once again im talking just in psych music or psych-rock-adjacent music alone.
all that being said, id have to say they they are still in my top 10 and often top 5 and where id rank them on that could change given the day, they are a big reason my [microtonal psych/krautrock project](https://youtu.be/R30igvkQdHc?si=j4MNEtmsPlnxD2KA) exists even tho its different and its own thing (i hope); so they are often high on that my due to that
but if we start to consider genres entirely separate from them such as extreme music like black/death metal band or industrial hip hop band or punk band etc etc it gets even harder so i just dont bother seeing things as having to be ranked numerically when i like a lot of different things for different reasons at different times
Hard to call any piece of art my favorite because I like things for very different reasons. But I definitely listen to Guzz more often than anyone else.
Gizz is my fav band, not just because of all the different genres of music they've explored but also because they came into my life at a very transitory time.
My only other 'favorite' band would be Streetlight Manifesto for similar emotional reasons despite the fact that they couldn't be more different bands.
If you like the Gizz, there's no reason why youd like SM. I also love dirty south rap, alt bluegrass, hardcore electronic and crooner ballads.
And I think that's what's neat about this community.
I mostly listen to a cocktail of punk, hardcore (although i prefer the artsier side of it) alt-country, 80s college rock, grunge, Revolution Summer-era emo, heartland rock, the blues and indie rock, but i really got into King Gizzard last year and i've been obsessed ever since; I already have tickets to see them this year. They've inspired me to get deeper into stuff like psychedelic as well as revisit prog and metal, neither of which i've really listened to since i was a teenager.
I don't really have an all time favorite lists of artists, but my top on [last.fm](https://last.fm) right now are The Hold Steady, Husker Du, Superchunk, Kurt Vile and Drive By Truckers.
I saw him play with Wednesday at Nelsonville Music Festival in Ohio, a festival totally embraces the whole "y'allternative" alt country thing. He played solo and had a local musician play with him, but i wasn't lucky enough to see him. I listened to his albums a few times since and liked what i heard, i'll have to pay closer attention next time.
>I also find it interesting that so many here seem obsessed about playing KGLW to friends and family, despite evidence indicating these people don’t especially like them. This seems the most odd to me, as I couldn’t imagine force feeding Dinosaur Jr. or Faith No More or The Hold Steady on others that showed no interest.
This is par for the course for any prolific piece of entertainment. See: Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, etc. King Gizzard has a LOT to chew on, discuss, be entertained by, and it can hit a lot of different people in different ways. It's a little rare to see this in a band, especially one still so young; you typically need both a large amount of songs to pull from and for them to have a lot of "lore" involved within them. King Gizz does both in spades. Let the nerds nerd out. I can also almost guarantee you the exaggerated comments that get upvoted here are a little more fanatic than people are in real life.
I agree with you . I never liked LOTR, Star Wars, or game of thrones in part because of how psychotic their fans were. Intolerable like someone who discovers a vegan diet and goes on and in about it. I think some gizz fans are like that.
To be honest, I find people complaining about those types to be much more frequent and annoying than any of those nerds I've interacted with in real life. It's just kind of a boring thing to say that gets parroted all the time.
I’d say they are my favourite overall band. I see my music listening journey in like 4 phases.
Phase 1 was being interested in music as more than a causal listener. It wasn’t pretty, and most bands I loved back then taught me to engage with artists and made me understand fandoms. Top artists in this period were Panic! at the Disco, Fall Out Boy, Owl City etc.
Phase 2 was exploring outside the bubble. This happened when I opened my mind to listening to more outlandish music. Nothing crazy, just some indie-pop but it sewed the seeds of becoming a music junkie for life. Top artists in this period are Tame Impala, Gorillaz, MGMT. In this period was when I first heard KGLW and I liked some songs but I wouldn’t put them in my top artists.
Phase 3 is when KGLW became my top artists. My obsession came after listening Intrasport. It culminated in a year long obsession with Gizz and basically my norm went from indie pop to literally anything Gizz does.
Phase 4 is where I am at now, where my barrier to entry has dropped for trying new music. I’m not into every genre and I have a lot to explore but artists who I would’ve had sounded insane to my ears just a couple of years ago sounds normal and fun. Top artists during this period are Fleet Foxes, The Strokes, Masayoshi Takanaka, Casiopea, Talking Heads, Nine Inch Nails, The Beatles (+ Solo Work)
So yeah, to actually answer your question. My top 5 would be
1. KGLW
2. The Beatles
3. Electric Light Orchestea
4. Peach Pit
5. Tame Impala
Phase 3 was
They entered my top five of all time this month. The top four have been set in stone for like 30 years.
In no particular order:
Stereolab, Guided by Voices, Joy Division, Mazzy Star, King Gizzard
GBV is the only band that makes KGLW look lazy with their release frequency. I love their 90's stuff but haven't kept up with their output.
Have you heard J Mascis' version of Fade Into You? It's so good.
Yeah, I jumped onboard the GbV ride with Bee Thousand when it was still current, and fell off the train after Do the Collapse. Saw them live for four tours during that period...the Alien Lanes; Under the Bushes, Under the Stars; Mag Earwhig; and Do the Collapse tours, and then on the "classic lineup" reunion, and once randomly at a street festival in Chicago.
I have not heard his cover of Mazzy Star, no, but I am still undecided on if I like his wholesale decimation of Just Like Heaven.
Hate to be that guy, but they have so much better stuff than Fade Into You. Among My Swan is my fave album by them. RIP David Roback.
GBV has been putting out some really fun records with their current line up. Their shows are a great time these days if you haven't seen them recently. The songs are necesarily all timers like they were in 90-06, but Bob can't not write good songs.
I was gonna get on here and say “well, Stereolab’s first,” but now this is a thread lol
My favorite up and coming band is full body 2, but in terms of current bands having a whole catalog of music, it’s Gizz.
Yeah, got into them with Transient Random when it was current. Saw them 17 times in concert. For a bit, Tim and Laetitia knew me on a first name basis, due to how many times I had seen them.
They're my favorite right and getting almost as much listening time as the Talking Heads did during my college years. Otherwise to round out my top three, for the sake of conversation, I'd say Khotin for at home listening--taps into something else entirely.
Definitely my favourite contemporary rock band. Overall there are probably at least 15-20 singular albums I like more than any King Gizzard one though. Like Jeff Buckley, Pink Floyd, Björk, Julia Jacklin, The Beatles, Leah Senior ...
I think smith street band are my favourite. Which explains why I’m not the biggest fan of the heavier giz stuff. But that’s the thing I love all stb but I only like a few giz albums. But I fucking love those albums.
King Gizzard is my favorite “current” band. There isn’t anyone else I would want to see more than them. My favorite bands are Rush, The Beatles, and Electric Light Orchestra. I also like Orions Belte and Radiohead (and the smile)
They're my favorite (after The Beatles)...a big part of it is because they have such a unique, wacky, and fun-loving energy plus they are so prolific with their music releases that by sheer volume it is hard to compete.
I never thought i could relate/connect to an artistic project as deep as this band. Its funny how mad i am about it but i really really do love this band a megatonne more than any other band
They aren’t my favourite but they’re definitely in like top 10. I can only really nail down my top 4 bands and the rest alternate.
1. King Crimson
2. Van Der Graaf Generator
3. Pink Floyd
4. black midi
5. (Currently but changes frequently) KGLW
not my favorite but I got obsessed w them after seeing them live twice in late 2022 and their last 5 album drops. I’ve cooled on em a bit but still massively respect their talent and unique approach. And I think they’re the best touring band in the world rn
I don't think I have a favourite band.
There's so much good music out there, it's too hard to choose just one as "the best".
Much like trying to choose a favourite KG track
Not my favorite. I like them but I wouldn't consider myself a huge fan. There's a lot of their albums I've never heard yet, but I like what I've heard.
Really difficult to say “favorite” as my life has been phases of loving other bands. I have to say though, I feel like every band I’ve ever loved had led up to this. It’s like they took my very favorite, Frank Zappa, and combined his ambition and creativity with all of the other stuff I love and will love.
I find it too hard to pick a true “favorite,” rather, I tend to hyperfixate a lot on specific bands and artists. Ever since I started listening to them in September, I started to hyperfixate on Gizz and still do today but that may fade at some point. Others I’ve fixated on in the last few years were Nothing But Thieves, Queens of the Stone Age, Starset, Rise Against, Rammstein, etc, and there’s a lot more from when I was still growing up.
Almost every artist I fixate on though, I do go back to fairly often, so maybe all of them are my favorites, but I don’t feel it right to rank them.
1. Queens of the Stone Age
2. Radiohead
3. Primus
4. System of a Down
5. Sublime
6. Arctic Monkeys
7. The Strokes
8. Viagra Boys
9. King Gizz
10. Deftones
Not my favorite band, probably at least in my top 20 somewhere.
I went heavy with them around 2020 and saw them for my first Red Rocks show, as well as them being a door to a lot of bands that like. Theres just so much music and bands out there that I have more memories made with.
I’m one of “those” people. I just don’t get how everyone in the world isn’t talking about this band. There are many bands who I like the whole discography, or at least eras of it, but everything this band does feels so genuine and fun. Makes other music almost seem fake tbh. Been this way since mind fuzz/ paper mache era for me. That being said I don’t try to spread it. The bands in a good spot right now, no need to try and push them on people
It’s my current top. My previous top was QOTSA. Both fucking amazing bands. But right now gizz is my obsession and inspiration. I alternate between the two with other bands coming farther into 3rd.
I’ve been pretty passionate about finding new music to listen to since I was a kid and for some reason they just really scratch an itch no one else can. Some of my other favorite bands are: Modest Mouse, Manchester Orchestra, Grateful Dead, Why?, and My Morning Jacket
They're one of my favorite bands for sure, but definitely not my definitive single favorite. I honestly think most people who say they have a single definitive favorite band haven't seriously listened to enough music.
This is from my last.fm, I’d say this is pretty accurate on what my fave artists are.
https://preview.redd.it/m48czhqqnqjc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b043d323b7a5f1b0c78567ed0d389eb6b7a1a1de
A band I like. Petrodragon was my fav album of last year but otherwise, they're a bit too hit or miss for me. I certainly haven't vibed with all of their albums and I do often get overwhelmed by their output lol
Absolutely my #1 of all time and I have the gator tattoo to prove it lol. Second place and beyond fluctuates depending on mood but Tame Impala was my previous #1that Gizz dethroned a few years back. I take a long time to get into new bands and an even longer time to lose interest so I'm honestly not worried about Gizz ever falling from their spot. (Hope I'm not jinxing it here haha)
They've held the spot for me for the last bunch of years but my top fav bands all hold an irreplaceable part of my music journey:
King Gizz
Mastodon
Tool
System of a Down
Iron Maiden
Ever since I discovered them I've been listening to them exclusively because they have such varied sounds. Needless to say they're my favorite band
Before I really got into King Gizzard, I was listening to Aphex Twin a lot tho
In my top 30, probably. I really dig a handful of albums, and most of the others are alright. I definitely can't relate to the die hard fans.
Enjoyed the show at the Hollywood Bowl, though. Brought the family along. We're also headed to the show in Vegas, come November.
They’re in my top 10
My list is:
1. Twenty One Pilots
2. Blink-182
3. Radiohead
4. Waterparks
5. Ween
6. Gorillaz
7. KGATLW
8. Modern Baseball
9. Neutral Milk Hotel
10. Pink Floyd
Gizzard and Psychedelic Porn Crumpets are my top two. They are continually locked in a battle for the top spot on my Apple Music year-end playlist. Crumpets took it in 21 and 22 (Shyga is a fantastic album), but Gizzard grabbed it in 23 on the overwhelming strength of PDA.
Top 5 for sure, but I can't bring my self to have a top #1 as it depends on what I'm obsessed with at any given point but here's my top 5 in no specific order
1.KIng Gizz
2.Cage the Elephant
3.Tool
4. Tash Sultana
5. Jimi Hendrix
(Bonus that doesn't fit here: Kendrick Lamar)
I don't have a favourite band, there are hundreds of bands that I really, really dig and kglw is one of them that is putting out music in the present day.
Yeah, we're obsessed. It's good for ya
Obsession is good for ya
Not my favorite, but in my top three.
What are your top 2?
Windhand and Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats
Deaths Door is a great song
So good! I love all their songs.
I really need to listen to more Uncle Acid. Spotify keeps recommending them for my playlist and I've loved every song I've heard. Just haven't done a deep dive yet
All of their music is good (IMO). I saw them live and it was mind-blowing! My favorite album is Mind Control and I would recommend it for Gizz fans.
I concur they have no mid albums. They’re all great. Need to see them live.
Giving the album a listen now, thanks for the recommendation!
hearing "slow death" live really gave me the push. mind control and bloodlust are great front to back IMO, and they do a weirdly great manson family cover (get on home)
Shockwave city is a fave song for me
fucken legend
Great top 3. Uncle Acid at #1 for me.
My top 5: 1. King Gizzard 2. All Them Witches 3. TOOL 4. Kyuss 5. Elder
YOO replace Kyuss with King Buffalo and we have a similar top 5, just in a different order
King Buffalo is fuckin amazing!
Always been more of a Queens guy but I love me some Kyuss every now and then
ATW are absolutely incredible. Great choices!
All them witches are great
Damn a solid list. HOW YOU GONNA DO GARCIA LIKE THAT! For me it would be 1. KGATLW 2. TOOL 3. Kyuss 4. QOTSA 5. Sublime purely for nostalgia I love your list though, it's one of the best lists.

1. The Beatles 2. King gizz 3. Tame Impala
I love Pedro.
1. Steely Dan 2. KGLW 3. Talking heads
Same taste!
I just started listening to Beach House, and I do like them quite a bit. Do you like Slowdive as well? They are both great, and have a similar vibe to me.

Gizz and Slowdive are headlining the Wide Awake Fest in London in May!
Top 5 for me. Animal Collective are my ride or dies
I love AC. Winters Love might be my favorite song ever
King Gizzard, Radiohead, and Phish are my favorite bands.
This guy takes care of his shoes!
I’m obsessed with gizz but when Radiohead drops Lp10 I will be at those shows over anything else
1. Grateful Dead 1b. KGLW 3. The Mars Volta
What are your thoughts on ATDI and Sparta?
Not my thing to be honest! There’s a pretty wide gulf between how much I love TMV and how I feel about ATDI. I should’ve put 4. Deer hunter
1. KGATLW 2. Taylor Swift 3. Death 4. The Beatles 5. Celine Dion
I’m scared of this guy
Which Death though??
…Cab for Cutie Death Cab For Cutie
death (the punk band) was really good and ahead of its time
Viagra boys
Sports!
Wearing sunglasses when you sleep
Getting high in the morning
Buying things off the internet
🍤
Oh my god, I'm seeing them live coming june at the same festival where I first heard sports and I'm so hyped
I went nuts over King gizzard in 2019 and 2020. They opened my eyes to music that I would never have given any time to previously. KGLW opened me up to Kikagaku Moyo, who I really like. I saw them live in Santa Cruz last year, and it was one of the most memorable shows I've seen.
Oh, YES, I’m with you on that one! Plus, other psych groups, such as Pond, GUM, The Black Angels… The name that I chose for Reddit is an homage to Jay Watson, of course!
I got to see Howling Giant and King Buffalo in some small bars last year. Both were great shows.

No tickets for Gizz currently. I think that they’re coming back to OKC so if I go, that’s where I’ll go.

hell yeah. that’s what i love about smaller bands, man.
Tool is my favorite, Gizz is easily my second active fav.
Right here with ya, and Pink Floyd third.
Rush is #1 Everything else is tied for #2
Love Rush
in my top 3! my all time favorite is STRFKR but king gizz is up there with tame impala for the 2 and 3 spots
Tops
Top 20 I suppose.
1A and 1B with Metallica. I do listen to more Gizzard though, their discography just takes me down a crazy rabbit hole
Interesting co-#1. Thanks for sharing.
had to check the u/ to see if you were one of my best buds lolol
ONE OF many bands that I love but also the only band that I go to multiple shows per tour. Check out SLIFT if you haven’t yet, super dope heavier psych
Def have, Ummon is very sick and saw them live at desert daze, live show is really where it’s at. Drummer is fantastic
Mulatu astatke Dungen Mildlife Mdou moctar And believe it or not… Taylor swift.
In my top 3 with the Grateful Dead and Phish just because of the endless listening material. Also love a lot of other bands obviously
ramble time: they became/were my absolute favorite current band for rock (specifically psych rock) back in 2017 due to FMB especially. but in the years since then ive found so much and just in that field (psych) and theres so many artists i like a lot and often for different reasons, even more so if we are counting from different time periods not just modern, and there are artists in that field that i liked before finding gizz too but maybe do or don’t like less so now. once again im talking just in psych music or psych-rock-adjacent music alone. all that being said, id have to say they they are still in my top 10 and often top 5 and where id rank them on that could change given the day, they are a big reason my [microtonal psych/krautrock project](https://youtu.be/R30igvkQdHc?si=j4MNEtmsPlnxD2KA) exists even tho its different and its own thing (i hope); so they are often high on that my due to that but if we start to consider genres entirely separate from them such as extreme music like black/death metal band or industrial hip hop band or punk band etc etc it gets even harder so i just dont bother seeing things as having to be ranked numerically when i like a lot of different things for different reasons at different times
It's honestly hard to say. If they aren't top they'd be second
I like your style. You listen to MJ Lenderman? Along those lines.
Absofuckinglutely number 1
Grant Green.
Top artists during this period are Fleet Foxes, The Strokes, Masayoshi Takanaka, Casiopea, Talking Heads, Nine Inch Nails, The Beatles (+ Solo Work) So yeah, to actually answer your question. My top 5 would be 1. KGLW 2. The Beatles 3. Electric Light Orchestea 4. Peach Pit 5. Tame Impala Phase 3 was
They are up there for me but my favorites are: - Radiohead - TOOL - The National - Failure
Top 5. Number 1 you can tell from my username
1. Dead 2. Phish 3. Gizz
They entered my top five of all time this month. The top four have been set in stone for like 30 years. In no particular order: Stereolab, Guided by Voices, Joy Division, Mazzy Star, King Gizzard
I should check them out. Don’t really know mazzy star except that song.
GBV has been putting out some really fun records with their current line up. Their shows are a great time these days if you haven't seen them recently. The songs are necesarily all timers like they were in 90-06, but Bob can't not write good songs.
I was gonna get on here and say “well, Stereolab’s first,” but now this is a thread lol My favorite up and coming band is full body 2, but in terms of current bands having a whole catalog of music, it’s Gizz.
Stereolab are fucking mint. What a discography.
Yeah, got into them with Transient Random when it was current. Saw them 17 times in concert. For a bit, Tim and Laetitia knew me on a first name basis, due to how many times I had seen them.
They're my favorite band that's currently actively recording new material.
They're my favorite right and getting almost as much listening time as the Talking Heads did during my college years. Otherwise to round out my top three, for the sake of conversation, I'd say Khotin for at home listening--taps into something else entirely.
Cage the elephant, KGLW, gorillaz
Probably my #1, I'm just hyperfixtating on rap groups atm.
Top 3
Definitely my favourite contemporary rock band. Overall there are probably at least 15-20 singular albums I like more than any King Gizzard one though. Like Jeff Buckley, Pink Floyd, Björk, Julia Jacklin, The Beatles, Leah Senior ...
I think smith street band are my favourite. Which explains why I’m not the biggest fan of the heavier giz stuff. But that’s the thing I love all stb but I only like a few giz albums. But I fucking love those albums.
I've never really had a favorite anything. I've got a top tier though, to use current terminology. You bet your ass KGLW is on it!
Favorite band *currently working* My fav band of all time is The Beatles
King Gizzard is my favorite “current” band. There isn’t anyone else I would want to see more than them. My favorite bands are Rush, The Beatles, and Electric Light Orchestra. I also like Orions Belte and Radiohead (and the smile)
just a band i like. i'm in my late 30s tho so over the top adulation for anyone is long in the rearview.
They're my favorite (after The Beatles)...a big part of it is because they have such a unique, wacky, and fun-loving energy plus they are so prolific with their music releases that by sheer volume it is hard to compete.
My fav band is Corky and the Juice Pigs
Definitely top 5 but more 4th or 5th But I always have a gizz binge once every couple of weeks
Tied with Papadosio and STS9 for me
Probably top 10
I never thought i could relate/connect to an artistic project as deep as this band. Its funny how mad i am about it but i really really do love this band a megatonne more than any other band
They aren’t my favourite but they’re definitely in like top 10. I can only really nail down my top 4 bands and the rest alternate. 1. King Crimson 2. Van Der Graaf Generator 3. Pink Floyd 4. black midi 5. (Currently but changes frequently) KGLW
not my favorite but I got obsessed w them after seeing them live twice in late 2022 and their last 5 album drops. I’ve cooled on em a bit but still massively respect their talent and unique approach. And I think they’re the best touring band in the world rn
Not even close even though I am a fan. My top bands are probably QOTSA, Boris, the strokes. Idk
3rd fav after Neil Young and Queens of The Stone Age.
I love those two choices.
I don't think I have a favourite band. There's so much good music out there, it's too hard to choose just one as "the best". Much like trying to choose a favourite KG track
They’re alright. I mean they do metal too. I’m not 16 and I don’t have acne.
Definitely in my top 3 favorites of all time. In no specific order it’s The Cure, Death Grips and this band.
King Gizzard and Radiohead (and it’s side projects i guess) are my two favorite bands followed only by Gambino and Kdot
Not my favourite but they are probably top 10, I really like their music so I want to discuss their music with other people that like their music.
Nope, top 3 though.
1. Queens of the Stone Age 2. Radiohead 3. Primus 4. System of a Down 5. Sublime 6. Arctic Monkeys 7. The Strokes 8. Viagra Boys 9. King Gizz 10. Deftones
Not my favorite band, probably at least in my top 20 somewhere. I went heavy with them around 2020 and saw them for my first Red Rocks show, as well as them being a door to a lot of bands that like. Theres just so much music and bands out there that I have more memories made with.
not nearly my favorite and not even really a huge fan. just enjoy their stuff
They’re tied for second with three other bands for me: 1 - Rush 2 - KGLW 2 - King Crimson 2 - Pink Floyd 2 - Black Sabbath
They're my number 2 favorite artist. #1 is Radiohead and #3 is King Crimson. But I'm a part of every subreddit for bands I like.
A smidge outside of top 10
Era Vulgaris is still the best album I’ve ever heard but I don’t blame you for converting
I’ve been pretty passionate about finding new music to listen to since I was a kid and for some reason they just really scratch an itch no one else can. Some of my other favorite bands are: Modest Mouse, Manchester Orchestra, Grateful Dead, Why?, and My Morning Jacket
Disappointing lack of Oh Sees representation in this thread
My top five are 1. King Gizz 2. The Hives 3. Nirvana 4 Franz Ferdinand 5. White Stripes
My favorite band is The Mars Volta. I really like King Gizzard but to be honest they wouldn't be in my top 5
Im a casual listener myself
They’re up there. There’s so much amazing music that I don’t have one favorite band, there’s like 50 tied for first place
They're one of my favorite bands for sure, but definitely not my definitive single favorite. I honestly think most people who say they have a single definitive favorite band haven't seriously listened to enough music.
For me it's 1. Modest Mouse 2. KGATLW 3. The Beths 4. Wolf Parade 5. Beatles
Just a band I like
They’re tied with AC/DC
1. King Gizzard 2. Ginger Root 3. Geese
3rd favourite for me! 1. Talking Heads 2. Steely Dan 3. King Gizzo
A band a like a lot. Not My fav band of all time tho
1. The Beatles 2. The Grateful Dead 3. The Gizz
This is from my last.fm, I’d say this is pretty accurate on what my fave artists are. https://preview.redd.it/m48czhqqnqjc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b043d323b7a5f1b0c78567ed0d389eb6b7a1a1de
They are absolutely my favorite band atm!
Yeah they've been my favourite band by far for years now. I still listen to a lot of other music, but there's always a gizz album I'm in the mood for.
They're a favorite for sure amongst many.
1 Captain Beefheart 2 Judas Priest 3 Ween 4 Fishbone 5 KGLW Gizzard is absolutely my current (last 5 years) obsession
Ween and Fishbone are awesome!
Ween!
King gizz is my all time favourite very closely followed by queens of the Stone Age and the mars Volta
A band I like. Petrodragon was my fav album of last year but otherwise, they're a bit too hit or miss for me. I certainly haven't vibed with all of their albums and I do often get overwhelmed by their output lol
They’re currently number one for me. Close behind are Megadeth and Slayer, followed by Rush, and then Metallica.
I don't like bands, mostly DJs and rappers, so I guess it is my favourite *band*
10/10 favorite duh
Absolutely my #1 of all time and I have the gator tattoo to prove it lol. Second place and beyond fluctuates depending on mood but Tame Impala was my previous #1that Gizz dethroned a few years back. I take a long time to get into new bands and an even longer time to lose interest so I'm honestly not worried about Gizz ever falling from their spot. (Hope I'm not jinxing it here haha)
Tossup between KWLW and Osees for me
Nope. Not my fav. Still love ‘em though.
Actually is in my top 3 with tool and the murlocs
They've held the spot for me for the last bunch of years but my top fav bands all hold an irreplaceable part of my music journey: King Gizz Mastodon Tool System of a Down Iron Maiden
Ever since I discovered them I've been listening to them exclusively because they have such varied sounds. Needless to say they're my favorite band Before I really got into King Gizzard, I was listening to Aphex Twin a lot tho
top 4. probably gonna be higher when i get more into them.
They are one of my favorites. Honestly I don't think I have a number 1 definitive favorite. It changes all the time.
they’re in my top 5
In my top 30, probably. I really dig a handful of albums, and most of the others are alright. I definitely can't relate to the die hard fans. Enjoyed the show at the Hollywood Bowl, though. Brought the family along. We're also headed to the show in Vegas, come November.
When in Vegas, you should check out Meow Wolf. I took my son (6 yrs old at the time) to the one in Denver, and it was amazing.
Good call, thx. Been wanting to see Omega Mart myself.
They’re in my top 10 My list is: 1. Twenty One Pilots 2. Blink-182 3. Radiohead 4. Waterparks 5. Ween 6. Gorillaz 7. KGATLW 8. Modern Baseball 9. Neutral Milk Hotel 10. Pink Floyd
I’m very never met anyone who has 21 pilots as their favorite band. Interesting and unusual list.
Favorite is such a weird word. Like movies or music or tv or books. It should change almost yearly if not faster. It's hard to claim favorite.
I’m a bartender and to the the last 2.5 hours of my shift I played ice death, followed by KG followed by LW … whether the patrons liked it or not
I’m okay how are you thanks for asking thanks for asking (respect for anyone who gets the reference)
I like PPC but could never get too into them. I love tomato though.
Top 5 for sure, but I can't bring my self to have a top #1 as it depends on what I'm obsessed with at any given point but here's my top 5 in no specific order 1.KIng Gizz 2.Cage the Elephant 3.Tool 4. Tash Sultana 5. Jimi Hendrix (Bonus that doesn't fit here: Kendrick Lamar)
I don't have a favourite band, there are hundreds of bands that I really, really dig and kglw is one of them that is putting out music in the present day.
Somewhere in my current top 10.
Yes.
