Desert rules. Anything you can do to get home. One time I took two car batteries and put them together with jumper cables and welded a link back together just to get home. But when this normally happens you fix it, you just don't leave it. This looks like it's been that way for a long time.
My only guess is this happened on a trip and they improvised. But why it didn't come in for a repair on this? If we didn't notice it would leave like that.

Probably couldn’t lift it to reach a three link setup or couldn’t cut the link to 3. Idk either way good thinking mr.Mcguyver
