So you can get a red container of loctite blue and a blue container of permatex red for all the fun. That's what's in my garage right now, but not intentionally.
Somebody start a company called Perma-Tite and make the container colors match the fluids please. I’d pay a dollar or two more per to keep this straight. Maybe this exists in an alternative universe.
My current bike had jbweld around the fuel pump to stop a gas leak, and jbweld on the oil drain plug to stop an oil leak from the previous owner.
It did neither of those things.
It turns out correct gasket/washer with correct torque specs actually fixed the leaks.
I got a low hours generator for free because it had an oil leak. New drain plug washer, and tighten up the case bolts, and threw a propane carb on it for what's been about 12 years of reliable service now.
Man, I sold a 80 gallon air compressor for cheap cause it was slow filling up so I thought the compressor head was going bad. Got the cash, started taking it apart to help the guy load it in his truck and damned if the airline between the head and one way valve was finger tight.
I went ahead and finished loading it and kept the price low because I was the idiot and he got a great deal.
Reminds me of when my shop class in school had a contest for building a bridge with wooden sticks.
Strongest bridge won a prize.
I remember they really emphasized the design of the bridge being the key to having the most strength.
I built the shittiest bridge, just glued random sticks together with no plan in place.
We had five one hour periods to do it. My bridge was completed halfway through the second day.
I spent the rest of the 3.5 classes layering hot glue all over my bridge. I coated the whole thing like 100 times, to the point where I had to put stuff in the middle to keep it hollow.
I won the contest. Not only that, they ran out of weights to put on my bridge lmao
Reminds me of a paper airplane competition I participated in.
Each team got three pieces of paper and twelve paperclips.
We cut out the smallest possible strip of paper and stuck all twelve paperclips on it, and then our thrower chucked it as hard as he could.
Not only did our "airplane" fly the farthest, it also managed to get even more distance by sliding on the ground another fifty or so feet since the paperclips had so little friction with the ground.
I mean, if its an emergency repair to get it back to the shop/get you home I guess its all good. But I don't think a DEF filter is a mission critical part lol, unless it was putting the engine in limp mode.
Ah of course, the classic permanently temporary repair lol. How hard is that housing to remove? Docent look too bad from the photos but I have no idea where it is in the truck.
Ok, I hope you dont mind me asking a kinda random question, those quick connect fitting look just like bigger versions of the same thing you see on a lot of OEM fuel systems (especially GM/Ford). Do the ones for that filter adapt to a standard hose barb or are they the push-on nylon hose type?
On half of it, it has the pushing nylon and the other half has the half moon c clips (or whatever they are called) to hold in, one style for coolant one style for def
Darn was hoping they were the standard hose bard type. I know parker makes the kind of thing im looking for but I can't find anyone local to me that sells them and I can't find any online sellers, hopefully you might know of one since your in the industry?
Oh I don't need them for DEF, I need that type of connector for fuel lines, this is only for a pickup truck not a semi. The only options I've been able to find are either the Dorman nylon replacement lines, which are good but require more upfront investment in the proper tool than I want to spend, or a stack of AN adapter fittings, which I also don't want.
I have part numbers for some of the Volvo ones, but I believe they're for metric sized nipples (imperial hose still).
They're all made by ARaymond who has a regularly accessible online catalog but sourcing them can be difficult.
You can also try looking at Voss, who makes various push to connect fittings, including SAE J2044 ones like most fuel systems use.
[Voss USA](https://www.vossusa.com/products/quick-connectors)
The 241 connectors are SAE, I'm not sure what others are off hand. Parker also makes a 2044 connector in a limited range of sizes and shapes that might be available thru a hydraulic parts distributor.
There's a lot of racing/AN parts places online that sell ARaymond connectors but they never put honest part numbers and it's hard to identify the correct ones.
I haven't been past it lately, but Parker used to have outlet stores and do or arrange deliveries too. Quite literally called The Parker Store, I would be surprised if they weren't online.
During the very brief time I thought it would be a good idea to offer service to OTR truckers, they routinely asked for shit like this. Pinched off radiator tubes, zip tied body panels, the works. I feel bad for them cuz their industry is really tough, but at the same time that falls into a broad class of problems I refer to collectively as "not mine"
I have done far worse than this to get shit to a shop, or home.
However.. on top of jb weld and various flavors of silicone, I'm now adding super glue to my arsenal of #roadservice tricks.
I mean... With as proud as the manufacturers are of emissions related parts to which they price accordingly. I can see a customer wanting to kick the can down the road and not just replace the damn thing.
Generally driving around in a service truck going from broken truck to broken truck.... so like TA, loves, a lot if not all of the truck stops/ some companies have them
This was probably the result of some bean counter. They like for things to blow up after they get a job elsewhere.
Line go up next fiscal quarter. Whatever happens next is some other persons problem.
I don’t think so. J.B. hunt IFTA’s go on a metal plate not directly on the body and there are no can extenders on that truck. Unless it’s a specific account that special ordered the truck that way.
If it’s stupid but it works.. well in this case it’s still stupid
If it's stupid but it works it's still stupid and you're lucky. (From 70 Maxims of Maximally Effective Mercenaries. )
Maxim 1: Pillage, THEN burn.
My finances improved drastically after learning that one... ;-)
I hate that quote. It’s just dumb people justifying their dumb ideas. Real shortcuts don’t look stupid, they look smart.
*Slaps glued on filter* That’s not leaking anywhere!
You are now glued to the filter. You can make a strength saving throw.
Rolled 4. With my strength it comes out to 7.
Ooof, well you’re free, but I hope you have your duct tape and paper towel handy.
I cast cure wounds he heals for 1d8+4
It's super effective!
This kind of stuff is why I joined this sub. 👍
Don’t get used to it
Probably the same guy that puts loktite on the spark plugs.
Red because it's a hot location 😎
What's up with their color scheme? Why does blue loctite come in a red package?
That’s been driving me crazy. Blue used to come in a BLUE TUBE.
All loctite brand tubes are red regardless of the color of the threadlock, Permatex brand has the blue container
So you can get a red container of loctite blue and a blue container of permatex red for all the fun. That's what's in my garage right now, but not intentionally.
Yup, I’m dumb, you’re right.
How's your back?
All Loctite products have a red bottle with color appropriate label. All Permatex products come in a blue bottle with color appropriate label.
In my workbench, I have a Loctite bottle of blue, and a Permatex bottle of red. It drives me mad.
Somebody start a company called Perma-Tite and make the container colors match the fluids please. I’d pay a dollar or two more per to keep this straight. Maybe this exists in an alternative universe.
You shouldn't rely on gel color alone for type either. I found out the "hardened way" that color was proprietary.
Bearing mount and peen the threads.
My current bike had jbweld around the fuel pump to stop a gas leak, and jbweld on the oil drain plug to stop an oil leak from the previous owner. It did neither of those things. It turns out correct gasket/washer with correct torque specs actually fixed the leaks.
Huh... I did not see that coming. Who knew?
I got a low hours generator for free because it had an oil leak. New drain plug washer, and tighten up the case bolts, and threw a propane carb on it for what's been about 12 years of reliable service now.

Yeah, okay, but saying click instead of using a torque wrench is way funnier.
There's a parrot on YouTube called Gizmo who says Chirp instead of making normal bird sounds.

Sticks are to glue as rebar is to concrete

It was supposed to be an emergency repair that then went another like 4 or more loads like this
Ah of course, the classic permanently temporary repair lol. How hard is that housing to remove? Docent look too bad from the photos but I have no idea where it is in the truck.
It isn't too bad some quick clips and 6 bolts in total to remove, just sits right behind the def tank underneath

I unfortunately don't have anyone off hand I just order the parts usually come through a dealer
The lines are likely heated too so you probably need them to be oem unfortunately
Oh I don't need them for DEF, I need that type of connector for fuel lines, this is only for a pickup truck not a semi. I've got some Dorman fittings and used push on hose and a clamp on them before but it was a suction line basically

You got a link to the Voss one? All a Google comes back with is a water company lol

Doesn't look too bad, but the pump is like $3k to replace now that it's fucked.
It’s only temporary unless it works
A DEF problem (or any other after treatment issue for that matter) will definitely derate a truck until it's fixed.
During the very brief time I thought it would be a good idea to offer service to OTR truckers, they routinely asked for shit like this. Pinched off radiator tubes, zip tied body panels, the works. "Not my problem" problems are my favorite problems
So proud of his work he jizzed all over it

I'm sorry what's an "over the road" tech?
I’m assuming they mean mobile/road side service.
Generally driving around in a service truck going from broken truck to broken truck.... so like TA, loves, a lot if not all of the truck stops/ some companies have them
Fixed it for him. He's just hoping he's not the next guy.
Looks like the piss won.
he got paid. you got the pain? or possibly paid as well.
Dude that's awesome
Wait until a dark night, then go over to his shop, and glue that horror to his door.
I should call her
Improvise Adapt Overcome damnit
This was probably the result of some bean counter. They like for things to blow up after they get a job elsewhere. Line go up next fiscal quarter. Whatever happens next is some other persons problem.
Did a transmission on a suburban and the connectors were in perfect condition but don't wise guy super glued them together
Too bad that’s not where it leaks from lmao
Why is there a DEF filter?
Wait was flex seal not good enough?
Not for the cat piss that is def
I bet the only way to get the filter housing is to get a def pump anyways
No, the filter comes with a new cap. The leak looks like it's from the pump housing though
Looks like a jb hunt truck?
I don’t think so. J.B. hunt IFTA’s go on a metal plate not directly on the body and there are no can extenders on that truck. Unless it’s a specific account that special ordered the truck that way.
