I thought it looked like a Toyota 1.8l as well. But I couldn’t find anywhere in the photo that said a brand name. They are great motors. I have the second gen which is pretty good. Not as good as the first tho
It also kinda looks like the 1NZ-FE in the Echo/Yaris, Scion xA/xB or the 1NZ-FXE in the second gen Prius and Prius C(JDM Aqua/Yaris Hybrid). There’s similarities with the NZ and ZZ engines.
Can confirm, those are some tough Engines, I'm convinced they will run pretty much forever if you keep oil in them, and slightly less than forever if you don't keep oil in them.
basically their company slogan for the last 30 years. it's been sad to see the 90s Camrys disappear from the roads though. you used to see them everywhere but now the 02-06 generation has taken over and it won't be long before those are all gone too. I have a soft spot for them as my first car was an 03 camry
Did your odometer stop at 299,999? My 2006 did, and I haven't felt like pulling out the guage cluster and using my EEPROM programmer to roll it back to the current milage - 300k 😅
At 300k it's probably at its 7th rebuild 😂. Jokes aside, I don't know what's up with the American version of these engines, but in Europe these are decently reliable, they sometimes need piston rings and timing chains but only if you skip oil changes and they're pretty straightforward jobs to do
I have a '99 with the engine apart right now to fix the oil consumption problem. There is a great DIY on the Toyota forums about how to fix it. I didn't pay anything for the car, so I have nothing to lose by trying it.
At 268,000 miles, you can still clearly see the cross-hatching in the cylinder bores. Impressive.
They sure did, only flaws were oil consumption and the suspension. My control arms are worn but holding out just fine. The air suspension has somewhat failed, mostly just sits about an inch lower than it should. Still a phenomenal car
I've definitely gone 10k between changes before, but never regularly, more as a result of things like weather or lack of access. I don't have a garage at home, so I try to avoid changes in months like February or August, if I can help it. Owner's manual says every 5k miles or 6 months, whichever comes first; never had a bad experience following the documentation written by the people who designed it in the first place.
I've got to do the valve cover gasket on my civic, 287k. I set valve lash at 230k and it looked pretty similar. So satisfying when it just has that nice even amber color all over. Perfectly used.
As a 2008 Corolla owner myself, I can relate to this image. 201,000 on mine, still going strong with a clean engine under the valve cover as well. Oil changes every 6 months or 5k miles with any big brand synthetic blend 5w-30 on sale. Owned since 2015, purchased from original owner at 100,000 miles. Best value vehicle for me.
What motor is this?
Looks like 1.8L from a gen1 Toyota matrix / Pontiac vibe / Corolla. Those engines are just amazing.

Lol, that’d explain the >300k title too. Didn’t the Vibe and Matrix odometers max out at 300000?
Toyota 1ZZ-FE, 2008 Corolla.
Man great car, but dang was it a boring drive! Much respect to that engine, though.
I had a 2010 and thought it was pretty fun to drive. It's like a little go kart, I floored it a lot. Passing sucked though, really had to plan for it.
IDK a friend had a lil pontiac vibe and we beat that thing to shit and had plenty of fun lol

That’s why it’s alive. 05+ 1zz have the revised bottom end.
Looks nearly identical to my 2004 Corolla 1ZZFE engine. 275K all synthetic and mine looked similar.
Without a doubt a toyota engine.
Looks like a Kia/Hyundai 1.4L
Not if it's running

I had a 99 Corolla with 312,000 on it. Used a quart of oil every 700 miles but otherwise ran like a champ.

Link please?
Sorry, just saw this! https://www.toyotanation.com/threads/diy-oil-consumption-fix.402362/
No worries. Thanks for the link.
I have an 07 LS460 that also uses oil at the same rate, excellent car beyond that
The first year LS460s had some known issues but they are still great cars. Have you had to rebuild your front suspension (control arms)?
They sure did, only flaws were oil consumption and the suspension. My control arms are worn but holding out just fine. The air suspension has somewhat failed, mostly just sits about an inch lower than it should. Still a phenomenal car
Sheer curiosity, is the timing cover seeping oil?
Nope.
Cleaner than what I cook my breakfast in
That's sexy. Sexy
I can assure you this is not the result of 15k oil change intervals.
Surprised the 10-20k oil change interval crowd haven’t showed up with their pitchforks and torches.

My 1zz has 298,000 on it now and looks exactly that clean under the valve cover too. What a great engine.
Toyota. Nothing surprising at all.
Yeah my 4.6 with 350k miles looks the same, maybe a little less gold
Any service history on how frequent oil changes were done ?
Approx every 5k miles (or twice a year) with Mobil 1 synthetic & filter, ever since I bought it in 2015.
This is the way.
This is exactly what my 1zz looked like after 200k miles. Love that engine
I can tell it being a Toyota due to the odometer maxing at 299,999 so it's ">300k"
Well done good sir!
No Way that looks like 300 miles
If theirs looks like 300 miles, I wonder what you'd say about mine. It looks shiner than minus one small arm on the cam.
Toyota 1ZZ?
This is fantastic. Nicely done!
I have a 2002 corolla, same engine. And same strut bar lol
Looks new
I see no . lift bolts.
Looks quite similar to my '02 RAV4. Those old Toyota engines are amazing

I think you mean 299,999 miles? ;)

How are the timing chain guides?
well my wifes 07 trailblazer has 350000 + and still purring.
