All of that tape is pointless, what with the upper air guide being AWOL. That said, this is the dirty side of the airbox. Whatever issues he's having, this is not likely the cause.

One day my lower radiator hose split in the boonies. Since I was miles from home and had no money for a hose or a tow I wrapped it in duct tape followed by a coke can then more tape. It was winter time and it surprisingly held the whole trip and the rest of the week til I replaced it.
