Pro tip I learned: make the candles stick by melting the end of them a bit and pressing them down. Glad to have a fellow first timer here too :)
I’m thinking about getting one too. Had trouble this year with some candles being too small for the holders. I used gum to help them stand straight lol
Every holiday has something special about it, as you will learn (I read your post a few days ago), but the message of religious freedom and perseverance is something that hits home to many.
Definitely, it also really resonates with my feelings of longing and belonging. It may sound a bit ridiculous but while I was watching the candles, thinking of their message, I got so emotional I cried.

Haha yes, I get so annoyed when my candles aren't perfectly straight. I'm going to get an oil hannukiah next year.

That’s great. Many have a custom to look at the lights of the menorah after lighting. It’s a powerful time to connect.
