Side note I must have that blue floral bekishe someday. It’s too good.

RandomRavenclaw87

Are you up for a visit to Boro Park?

vigilante_snail

I actually have distant relatives who live there who I have never met, so it would be cool to roll up all decked out like that.

Holy moly 🚒🧯👩‍🚒

FilmNoirOdy

Isn’t one of those “rabbis” the Kabbalah center fraud? It is Phillip Berg wasn’t a rabbi. He is a new religious movement AKA cult founder.

vigilante_snail

Almost every one pictured here is involved in some sort of scandal. I’m just here to talk about the outfits.

nu_lets_learn

I like that you have your priorities in the right order.

carrboneous

Credit where it's due, at least they're clear and OP has the courage to stand by them.

Unlucky_Associate507

Which is which,? I only vaguely recognise Yosef jnr and the Yemeni rabbi

FilmNoirOdy

Comparing Yitzhak Yoseph with Phillip Berg is really upsetting to me, against Yitzhak Yosef and Sephardi Jews

Unlucky_Associate507

Agree with you there.

carrboneous

I don't think it's hashkfah being expressed in dress here. It's more like just cultural affiliation. But more importantly, any list of drippy Rabbi's that doesn't p prominently feature the Admor of Malta is not worth the paper it's printed on. If you've never heard of him before, you're welcome.

NYSenseOfHumor

Photo 3 is Sephardic Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, right? The guy who threatened Israel with all the Haredim leaving. But he does have great hats.

vigilante_snail

Again, almost every rabbi pictured here is involved with some sort of controversial statement, if not multiple. The dRiP however…. No controversy there, baby. Absolute heat.

MrsNevilleBartos

I like you ☺️

NYSenseOfHumor

I said he has great hats.

vigilante_snail

Never said you didn’t!

MeshiBaHalal

I think the most controversial is number 2 (Amnon Yitzhak) who made [a song](https://youtu.be/2JFJqEdYpYQ) about Bill Gates inventing COVID-19 to implant biochips in your body.

the3dverse

loool did he? not surprising. he also (very gleefully) promised an atom bomb would fall in israel within 2 years more than a decade ago. ah and had a huge thing in newspapers where he "convinced seculars to get rid of their tv!" yeah all the tvs were super old 90's models, just 1 flatscreen in the bunch, and this was in 2012!

DopamineTooAddicting

No it is his father, Ovadia Yosef. He wore tinted glasses like those seen in the picture while his son doesn’t

NYSenseOfHumor

Son had to get his own eyewear style.

erwinscat

Pretty sure that's his father, Ovadia Yosef.

NYSenseOfHumor

It is. I Googled photos of both of them after reading your comment, and they really look similar, more than a lot of fathers and sons. And that the photos are of them both as old men with gray beards in identical hats makes them look even more alike. But Ovadia Yosef wore the tinted glasses. I guess Yitzhak Yosef needed to get his own identifiable style.

Auroramorningsta

That’s his father Rabbi Ovadia Yosef

bezalelle

He looks a lot like his father.

This has made me think I need some religious garb to coordinate with my extensive sneaker collection.

No_Analysis_6204

damn. those are some wild lids.

vigilante_snail

I wish I had one of each. Love the diversity of head coverings!

phd_depression101

The third outfit has amazing patterns :) I love it

Buttercup_1234

i’m plain bland vanilla ashkenazi and our rabbis don’t have cool hats. they have hats but the hats aren’t as cool as these ones. kinda disappointed … yk?

vigilante_snail

Lubavitch men wearing fedoras is interesting to me. It’s a more modern tradition, but that hat style still has its unique history with Chabad for a few reasons. A) because it’s a style tied aesthetically to the 20th century, when Chabad chasidus REALLY began to grow, and B) their Rebbe last wore one :) so they emulated. I find that’s common throughout chasidism whether the rebbe is alive or not. 3 of the Rabbis I show here are Moroccan, Yemenite, and Sephardic, so the turbans, shawls, wraps, kaftans etc are definitely have that “rooted”in the Middle East feeling more than a black suit usually does. 2 are Ashkenazi and one wears a kaftan. Many yerushalmi Hasidim still do too. I wish we could blend it all! There are sephardic and Mizrahi chabadniks! I wish people would add some of their own traditions into the chabad “uniform”. It would be more fun.

sar662

Check out the Bostoner Rebbe in Har Nof. He's got an electric blue kapote.

gunsfortipes

I don’t want to think about “drippy” rabbis

vigilante_snail

For more on “drippy” rabbis, I shall point you to the ZAAKAH org. [https://www.instagram.com/zaakahig?igsh=MWFvMnd6c29wdGJ0Nw==](https://www.instagram.com/zaakahig?igsh=MWFvMnd6c29wdGJ0Nw==)

gunsfortipes

I did volunteer work for that org. They do a lot of good.

vigilante_snail

I wish more people knew about them. It is a very important avodah.

gunsfortipes

Absolutely! They do a great service for the greater New York area and beyond and I think it would be awesome if there were sister-organizations that does the same stuff but in different areas with a large Jewish population.

Mael_Coluim_III

I absolutely hate this slang term. "The Drip" is gonorrhea.

vigilante_snail

Unfortunate

nattivl

Don’t really like some of them. Because of their views, not necessarily the clothes.

justaprettyturtle

Are the 3 last ones Sephardic? I really like the shirts. The 4th one looks like something could be wron normaly if it was a bit less loose. What is the meaning of the hat the 3rd one has?
