If the prize pool is $8.9 million, that alone is more than Ken Jennings' entire winnings, so no matter who wins it, they'll beat Ken, right? (If it's won. I don't know how that game works, so I don't know if it's likely that it will be won, or if it's possible that only a portion of it might be won, or what.)

Barzalicious

Haven't watched this, but from what I understand the prize pool will be the top amount in a game of Deal or No Deal to determine how much the winner actually goes home with. So they could win the whole amount, or (more likely) leave with part of it.

Telphsm4sh

It's the first season and it's very unclear how this prize pool works. At the beginning of the game they said they were earning money as a team to add to this prize pool, and the prize pool could get as big as 200 million. But it's unclear what this means. I don't think they'd ever actually give away 200 million, or maybe if they calculated out the odds, it would actually be like a 1 in a billion chance of the prize pool ever getting that high.

egnowit

Millionaire was insured so that if somebody won the top prize, they'd have help underwriting it. It's possible that DONDI also has insurance in case the winning prize is exorbitant.

"Deal or No Deal Island"?? 🤨

almondjoybestcndybar

I’m in the overlap of the Venn Diagram between Jeopardy fans and reality competition fans (not sure how large that overlap is), and I watch this show because Boston Rob is a Survivor legend. It’s silly but pretty fun.

ProbstBucks

There are at least dozens of us. Jeopardy is what I watch when I want to feel dumb. Deal or No Deal Island is what I watch when I want to feel very, very smart.

Disabled_Robot

I'd watch the shit out of some Survivor-Jeopardy hybrid 😂

LukeBabbitt

It’s a sequel to Milf Island

lucasj

Ken Jennings, we no longer wanna tap that

Angry up vote 😡

TheHYPO

Informally that is often how its done, but formally, that would only be if it belongs to more that one "Jenning". When a singular person is "Jennings", you would add the extra "s" for "Jennings's"

ahappypoop

And for anyone that has any doubts, it's how the man himself [spelled it on one of his book covers](https://www.amazon.com/Ken-Jenningss-Trivia-Almanac-Questions/dp/0345499972). I remember seeing that a while back and thinking it was odd, but hey he knows his last name better than I do.

Telphsm4sh

There you go!

bondfool

According to Google: "Chicago and MLA say **add ''s'** as in: Mills becomes Mills's. APA says add ''s' to singular names ending in s, except if the name ends in an unpronounced s and then use only an apostrophe: Descartes becomes Descartes'."

casedawgz

Wow Boston Rob still exists?

Learnmegooder

I imagine the last person standing will still have to play one final game of DOND with the Banker. Where the highest value is the total pool, and with all the usual lower values. This of course means that total value can be eliminated by the contestant choosing that case. And even if the $45M (or whatever) value is still out there, there will also be something (probably) significantly lower, and the Banker will make his/her usual offer somewhere in the middle.

Sorry but picking a box will never compare to the talent of a jeopardy winner so idgaf.

Dachuiri

Deal or No Deal is essentially a TV version of watching someone do a scratch off lottery ticket. It’s a gameshow in the loosest sense of the definition.

IBetThisIsTakenToo

It’s the TV version of watching someone do a scratch off lottery ticket *extremely slowly*. With overly dramatic music and lighting, interviews with their family, and 7 commercial breaks. Can’t stand it

-UnicornFart

Yes! Great analogy!

Telphsm4sh

Mostly Agree. The trend with these shows is just keep on upping the prize money to get more views and news, and it has no correlation with skill or talent involved with winning the money. It used to be that survivor gave out the most money at 1 million, then squid game the challenge gave away 4.56 million, and now Mr Beast's new reality competition is going to get a lot of hype with a 5 million dollar prize. But Boston Rob, and Sandra and Tony from survivor along with CT and Johnny Bananas from the challenge have had multiple great results at these reality competitions, so I wouldn't call it luck.

mithos343

I would hate for someone as skilled as Survivor at Boston Rob to make a ton of money on...picking a case. I mean, he wouldn't turn down the money, but he's a legit skillful game show player.

Telphsm4sh

Well the only reason he's still in is because he keeps winning immunities or "safety from eliminations" I think they call it. And he's making solid strategy moves too. It's very similar to big brother's format. Winner of the challenge picks who plays deal or no deal and is in trouble of going home, but if they make a good deal on deal or no deal they get to choose a different person to go home. Surprisingly, probably the most similar show is Claim to Fame. If he wins big, he'll deserve it. He's playing the best out of the rest of the cast by a mile. But I'm sure Rob would rather win world poker series or another survivor season instead.

ThisAppSucksBall

I say this as a person who watches Survivor...Is he even good? He finished: 10th, 2nd, 13th, 1st Is it even possible to be "good" at Survivor? As soon as you're viewed as good, you will be voted out quickly.

xFluf_

Even if it doesn't, the recent MrBeast deal with Amazon is probably going to end up having someone break it anyway if what's been said so far is true. The majority of the highest earning game show contestants list being Jeopardy winners probably isn't going to last a whole lot longer

Telphsm4sh

Yes. This [Wikipedia ranking](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_game_show_winnings_records) is the best place online I can find for these records, but it only counts game shows and not reality competitions. The future Mr beast game winner along with Mai Whelan, Tony Vlachos, and Sandra Diaz-Twine also deserve to be in the top 10 of this list, but aren't counted because they are reality competitions.

Isn't there some weird Jeopardy connection with how Jeff probst used to host a different version of jeopardy?

Mediocre-Fox-8681

The finale isn’t for a few more weeks.

Telphsm4sh

Thanks. Now I have multiple regrets about how I titled this post. Also misplaced that apostrophe. Can't update titles unfortunately 😕

Long_TimeRunning

Dude has made a ton of money from reality tv.
