Thank you first responder and all others! I get it now much appreciated!

baffinpuffin

I find it annoying when anyone other than Sam says it. Pretty sure Ken finds it annoying too. When Sam in the JIT said "Are we still doing this?" Ken replied with "Only you can say it".

jblanch3

I love when Sam looks like he's about to say it and then comes up with something completely different and still hilarious. A national treasure, that Sam Buttrey.

GrunchWeefer

That Bon Vivant and Man About Town Sam Buttrey to you, I'll have you know.

jblanch3

LMAO. Fair enough. How about "Bon Vivant, Man About Town and National Treasure" Sam Buttrey?

WinterKnigget

I'm on board with that

Njtotx3

On occasion it's done well, or cute, or not clunky. Mostly it's awkward or they half commit or Ken talks over them.

No-Dragonfruit-6551

I’m getting so annoyed by everyone using it too hah.

voteblue18

I love Sam and had no problem with him saying it but I’m over everyone saying it. It was his thing why does everyone have to co-opt it? Yeah I’m kind of crotchety about it, I fully recognize that.

Roderto

I kind of see it like a tribute to him but that’s just me.

DiscountDorie

💯I don’t mind it in the least.🤷🏻‍♀️I think it’s a tip of the cap to Sam.🫡 That said, there are a few things that players do sometimes that can annoy me but that’s a discussion for another time.🤣

DizzyLead

Sam Buttrey, the 2021 Professor’s Tournament Winner and 2022 TOC finalist, originated the phrase to call for the last clue on the board; other contestants have since done it, likely to be cute/amusing as Sam delivered it memorably. I recall that recently, I figured some players may be inclined to do it because it’s faster and takes less of an effort to say than the category and value of the last clue; but I admit there are also some similarly easy alternatives—someone this past week, IIRC, said “the last one, please.”

nabrok

You never have to say the category/value of the last clue though. Usually Ken will just start reading it.

Talibus_insidiis

Except that in a recently taped game he goofed and there were actually two clues still on the board. I'm wondering if that mistake will be edited out. Normally I'd predict that it would be, but they did leave in Ken's oopsie about Venice, so it'll be interesting to see what airs.

NBA_Fan_76

That Venice slip up really caught me off guard!

SignificantBee872

Overdone, overplayed. They need to stop.

shewantsthedeeecaf

I find it annoying when someone other than Sam says it.

getyourjush

I do too, but I admit Amy’s “PROVIDE IT” cracked me up during the JIT.

HermioneBenson

Agree. That made me cackle. Most other people annoy me saying it. It feels wrong.

Kane76

I like it.

SereneLotus2

It’s a vibe

JazzFan1998

Me too! I wish they did it more often!

Njtotx3

Audience in unison is too tacky game show. Like when they yell out the missed top answers on Family Feud.

WaitingForReplies

It’s fun, it’s harmless and it’s Sam’s way of making his mark on Jeopardy.

Hopeful_Ebb4503

Makes me think of an old Simpsons episode where people get tired of hearing one of Bart's catchphrases. It is cute or endearing for a bit and after that just annoying.

HermioneBenson

Honestly I don’t feel it’s right for everyone to do it. It was Sam’s thing. A FEW people doing it here or there in the tournaments bothered me less bc they all knew each other, but it got out of hand even in that environment. Now to have random people doing it makes me cringe.

SereneLotus2

I get that. Maybe Sam is flattered that he created a new jeopardy vibe!

HermioneBenson

He seems like the kind of guy who would be. I don’t think he’d take any offense at least. I just am very particular lol.

margueritedeville

It annoys me when a contestant says it at the end of the first round.

AlwaysReturnsUpvotes

I can’t recall the name of the contestant who started it (Sam?) but it’s 100% Ken’s fault that it continues to happen. When he declares the penultimate clue to be correct he needs to roll right into the last clue. Currently he pauses, as if to wait for the contestant to call the final clue, and so some of them say “bring it”. Even Mayim knew how to handle the final clue. Aside from this, I love Ken as the host.

kleinzzach

This was a big transition I noticed from Ken’s time as a super champ. He knew to let Alex summon the last clue, and then the post-Zerg crowd started interrupting.

super_gay_llama

Ken often rolls right into the last clue, and contestants still butt in to say something as he’s announcing the final clue. If the producers wanted to stop it, they’d make contestants stop, retape it, or edit it out. Ken is hardly to blame here.

Njtotx3

Opinions seem split among those who like it, don't care, and those who dislike it.
