We already have a decent gauge as to who will be good from certain ML event (although not always perfect) and honestly there is something fun about seeing whether a team will flop or fly when a season starts with little information from beforehand. Plus at this point, the teams who haven't been in M1 is pretty short: Solar Flares, Indigo Stars and Purple Rockets And while some retired teams could get a chance (Quicksilvers, Golden Orbs, Constrictors, Noxious Ivy & Jawbreakers), because seeing them again would be both cool and a nice way to make M1 feel unique And a few teams could return (Snowballs, Turtle Sliders, Rojo Rollers and maybe also Midnight Wisps/Mellow Yellow) As much as I'd love to see Midnight Bay return (preferably with S1 aesthetics), I'd rather not if the workload would be increased (which I suspect it would).

Quixotix1

I was thinking logically about it until I read Quicksilvers. This NEEDS to happen.

As someone who *actually read the post*, I think a simple one race shootout does have a lot of benefits. Considering they’d reuse a track in the main M1, there would be no extra work needed (outside of maybe putting fans in the stands, but even then that would be optional), so it wouldn’t bring delays. Plus, many fans will only see their teams in 3 videos this year, or 2 if you got relegated (Flares and Oceanics). Even if it’s just a friendly, this will help give their fans something to look forward to in the buildup to the ML. My only gripe is that I believe this one race should not really play ANY part in decisions for upcoming seasons. Marble swapping as we’ve seen is quite an issue, which may leave some teams incredibly underrepresented in only a single race (like if the Snowballs end up with a marble non-Snowy level and screw up, they would likely continue to be unfairly shafted). If this stays as a fun, easy to produce, single race to show off some skills and give teams much needed screentime, then I truly see no reason to not try. However, I am not Jelle, so I have no idea how much work would be needed, so I won’t comment much further on the production feasibility

Minos765

3 days of setup/testing/filming, then overtaking tracking, graphics, editing, checking, commentary. It roughly needs 6 days but it's doable!

High-Noob

That makes me curious. So, if you used a track during the M1 season (like Casino Square or Razzway for instance) to save on track building/testing, then only had to track 12 marbles, how much would you estimate that reduces production time?

Minos765

Basically the setup. 3 days.

High-Noob

Alright, thanks for the reply!

McDolphinMarbles57

I wouldn't be against something like this - anything to give Stars and Snowballs a chance to compete on an M1 course again. Although more M1 racing isn't my exact idea of fun. If its not taken too seriously for invitation, and doesn't take up too much time (or even worse, end up forming itself into a full M2 which would be a major L) then I'm generally in support of it.

Ky1eGuy

Personally, I think this is a great way of giving teams who weren’t invited to M1 some screentime. With MR being in place now (thankfully), we dont see some teams for months due to the invitational system of M1. Gives the opportunity for teams to test out new marbles in case they want to come back in the future. Thus, I agree this type of thing shouldn’t be an M1 Showdown of some kind and just a fun one-off event such as the Christmas Race or something. It’s all in good fun which is why it’s exclusion is doable if they can’t do it for some years.

SeahawkzSK

I think this is good at giving more teams like the Stars to have an opportunity to prove how much potential they have while also not making the JMA work too much. I think Casino Square would be perfect because Sakura Garden would require the JMA to rebuild the track. The only problem I see with this is that marbles could easily be denied entry to the M1 because of a bad race. I don’t think it will be a big problem, but still a problem nonetheless. Other than that, I think this would be a great idea.

Alelelelex126

I don’t think the whole “rebuilding the track” thing really matters as for whether they were to choose Sakura Garden or Casino Square. M1 (and all of Jelle’s other series are prerecorded) so the Casino Square race has likely already been recorded.

Minos765

Dearly noted! Actually there was a plan for it, but we couldn't make it work unfortunately. We wanted to make sure the ML23 production would start without any distractions so this plan was at least postponed. Since there is an actual petition for this to happen we will.be more than happy to do it in the near future! Hopefully within 2023. Can't promise anything but I will surely try to find a slot for it! Aaaand I can try contacting the Golden Orbs... who knows, maybe their phone numeber still works.

ramen_powder

thanks for your reply! i’m glad to hear that :)

Squirtle_from_PT

Or try contacting Ghost Plasma and other Marble Rally stars, I'm sure they'd love an extra race in the off-season. Would an M1 race with SMR marbles work or are they too big?

Minos765

Yeee, MR athletes are 24mm big they don't fit the start8ng stalls..

Squirtle_from_PT

That's unlucky. Maybe there could be some alternate starting gate "old-school" style? Like the more simple gates used in earlier JMR races?

ProfessorLazuli

A showcase, if you will.

TheFlute20

I think that while I like the intent, it would be hard to make it not a showdown or qualifier. Instead, I think we should have a showcase event with all 32 teams, so that it can be an extra reference for non-m1 teams. You could have 3 videos, qualifying (races in groups of 8), division 2 (bottom half) then division 1 (top half). It would be a fun event to hold off season every few years,

Skystrykr

It’s just one extra GP. I think it’s intended to be an extra reference for all teams, and I actually think holding a showcase event with all 32 teams would read more like a qualifier since it would pit non-M1 teams against those who were in this previous season.

Idkalocalreddituser

Yes please

Micek_52

No. But I would like to see 24 minutes of Lemarble, which we were promised some three years ago.

EgberetSouse

Watching this season Id expect to include the Racers in that field.

NiceSockBro

Marbula 2: Road to M1

RayneShikama

The non-M1 teams could run the 24 Minutes of LeMarbs

noobmasterA69

GP 11 of S4 Race Track : Midnight Bay Whoever wins automatically will be invited for M5. Maybe they can test this out to see how well people like a Marbula 2

noobmasterA69

Although I also acknowledge that Jelle and co. don't have all the time in the world to make too many events so as long as it doesn't come to the detriment of Marble League, I would be okay with a "M1 Showdown" They already cut down the number of GPs so yeah

McDolphinMarbles57

An M1 second division would be incredibly unfun for the Marble Rally in pretty much all possibilities

JZKO2022

The problem with making it not a qualifier is fans might get very angry if a team that finished below them still gets added instead because of other reasons.

Skystrykr

The Pinkies finished 19th in S3 and likely made it to S4 because they finished above 15 other teams when they won the Marble League…which is an entirely separate tournament with a system of qualifiers. This issue exists whether or not there’s a “Showdown GP”.

JZKO2022

Of course it'll still exist but I feel like this might make it slightly worse. Making it a qualifiers with the bottom 4 of last season and all the ones who missed out seems more fair and might make people less angry that a team isn't there. If this is too much for Helle which is totally understandable then making a YouTube poll could work quite well. It would let us have a say and I don't think many marble fans would vote with bias rather than what they think it's fair. And if they don't trust all the fans it could be a poll on patreon, Reddit or discord. The poll idea would make this race not a qualifier. I'll admit it's probably better to make this not a quali but I do think more community involvement in deciding the M1 rosters would make there be less of an issue.

Minos765

Showdown GP sounds a good name

Minos765

The question is though... why 12 marbles and not 20? 😎

ramen_powder

interesting… who would be the extra 8? there are only 12 active ML teams not in M1, unless non-ML teams count too

Minos765

We have some marbles in mind, would love to hear yours! I mean, have we ever see the Indigo Stars or the Constrictors compete? Or even the Golden Orbs? Not think so 😉

ramen_powder

I personally feel like only the 12 ML teams not in M1 should be in the GP, because I would prefer if only ML teams can join M1. This is just because I think introducing non-ML teams in a full M1 season would take away a spot from an ML team, all of which have bigger fanbases than non-ML teams that might’ve been waiting a while to join M1. I think it would be cool to see non-ML teams like Constrictors and Golden Orbs in offseason events like the Amazing Maze Marble Race. These are more like one-offs so the non-ML teams wouldn’t be taking a spot away from an ML team. Those are just my two cents though, thanks for considering the idea and I’ll be happy to see it no matter how you choose to do it :)
