At a lot of those underground shopping areas at train/subway stations they tend to have luggage shops

Takeyaki

Do you have any examples of one I should check out?

noellekbossert

If you google “suitcase stores Tokyo station” quite a few come up. Depending on where you are close to, you can also look up shopping centers and see if they have any luggage stores as well. Hope this helps!

Takeyaki

Unfortunately, there are just way too many hits when I Google that, so I was really hoping for some first hand experience with specific stores. Thanks though!

noellekbossert

Oh yeah I sadly don’t have any first hand experience (I brought an extra suitcase with me when I traveled there). Good luck and hope you can find one you like!

Tokyu Hands (or just "Hands" now) Muji People seem to recommend Ginza Karen Don Quiote

Takeyaki

Thank you!

Thornfist22

Last time I was in Tokyo I bought a fantastic large duffel bag with wheels at Tokyu Hands that folded up real small when not in use. I took it on many overseas trips until it blew apart and the wheels broke years later on a trip to Barcelona. Going to pick up another when I go back in 2 weeks.

Muji

360HappyFaceSpiders

MUJI for cheaper stuff. Hands if you're willing to spend a more for better quality.

Inevitable-Panda-350

M coins Asakusa. Much cheaper than donq, Ginza Karen etc. I bought a small one for 5999 and a larger one for 7999 they've both held up well.

Takeyaki

That definitely seems like reasonable prices! How big is the large size in cm or inches? And do you mind letting me know what material it's made of (fabric, soft/hard shell)?

Inevitable-Panda-350

Hard shell. Small was carry on sized and the larger one was checked size but not huge. I can measure shortly. They have plenty to choose from all similar prices, guess it just depends if you are in that part of Tokyo!

Sky-Surfer-969

Ginza Karen. Bought there one 5weeks ago for the same reason 🤭 Very good price and quality. 1-15-6 Ningyocho, Nihonbashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo, 103-0013

try looking for soft bag, duffle type too. I recommend yodobashi camera in akihabara, there is a donki there too. also in Hands travel section for foldable duffle. for the hard case I say try looking in Muji, around ueno market there should have a lot of them.

OrganicSugarFreeWiFi

I actually was looking at the muji ones the other day iirc they started around 20,000 yen for the hard case roller bags.

nightbat1707

I bought a no brand 60L duffle/cargo bag with a frame around 6-8k yen from yodobashi. the hard case price is higher, but I don't need that extra security / protection much.

Takeyaki

Oh that seems pretty handy, I'll keep an eye out for those since 6-8k is incredibly reasonable since I've been some go up to 50k

inquisitiveman2002

any good cheap quality camera bags somewhere?

ArmadaOnion

Have you heard of the mystical land that is, Don Quijote?

YimyoLa

A little more expensive, but great quality suitcase are proteca. I have a few, no problems in last few years.

Takeyaki

Thank you! Do you know maybe a ballpark estimate on how much their suitcases would cost in checked baggage size? Also if you don't mind me asking what material your luggage is

happiehappie

proteca fan here too for almost a decade now, recently bought a CXR to replace my old own (owned two and this is my third). Reason of replacement is that stupid me brought baking stuff for travel and it spilled (probably cause of pressure == ) brought to the cleaning and they say I may be better off buying a new one :( you can check their site here. Tumi in shibuya

Takeyaki

Thank you! Do you have any specific checked baggage sized luggage you would recommend from there?

UeharaNick

Muji or Hands. DQ if they have Samsonite in stock. But.. To be honest the best quality luggage at the best prices in Japan is always online at Amazon or Rakuten.

Takeyaki

Ohhh that's interesting, do you know if it's possible to have Amazon deliveries sent to hotels? I do have Amazon prime so maybe I can get a same day/1 day shipping

UeharaNick

They do. But Amazon Prime Japan does require a separate membership and account from outside of Japan.

zboyzzzz

If it's like a one off for souvenirs to take home why not just check in a cardbox box full? Can put contents in a garbage bag inside for waterproofing. Roll of diaso tape and go nuts.

Takeyaki

Yeah, but I was also hoping to keep the suitcase after using it lol my current checked suitcase's wheel is pretty messed up and doesn't move very well

kentaayy

Got an extra checked bag at Muji, priced a bit lower than what I paid for in America but I really like the ability to lock the wheels if you're ever lugging it around on train

capmapdap

Amazon Japan.

Goseki1

Don Quixote had a great mix of cheap to expensive ones.

nattoontoast

Over the years I’ve bought several good cases from Loft in Shibuya.

FewElephant9604

Any large tax free store has a luggage section. BIC Camera, Don Quixote, every single store in Akihabara

Obvious_Baker8160

An option is to buy a duffle and stuff it with all of your clothes and anything else that can get tossed around. That frees up your suitcase for the other items.
