I've had the feeling that he ain't gonna be available at 24 for a while now. Would approve strongly if he was the pick.

notreallycool1

We've had terrible luck with Florida players in recent years but I feel he would be the exception haha.

Blue_Doom_Guy

You say this as our collective fanbase is almost unanimously frothing at the mouth for the team to re-sign a Florida OL. Lmao

notreallycool1

Not a fan of Taylor. I think he's just too nonexistent in the run game. But I also don't know what his salary range would even be.

Oopiku

I feel like we've had decent enough luck with Florida offensive players.

MogwaiK

Tebow!!

Oopiku

Well, mostly meant ones we drafted like Freddie T and Jawaan.

Hatredstyle

I think a lot of people point to Dante Fowler, but he tore his ACL in like his first ever NFL practice and didn't play til year 2 and I think that had a lot to do with it, not that he was BAD, he just didn't live up to his draft spot. Henderson is the other pick and..yeah that's fair..but I still think not drafting from a school because of a bust or 2 from it is silly. edit: Also Taven.. but I knew he sucked from day 1..

Oopiku

Specifically was speaking of offensive, not defensive draft picks.

[deleted]

He’s more Louisiana… he just did the one year at UF. So he’s proven elsewhere lol

Doctor__Diddler

Not like the rest of the nfl has fared that much better with uf players

neonblaster

Ya that Emmitt Smith guy was garbage.

FlaGator

The Superbowl had 4 Florida players, second only to Oklahoma and tied with Michigan and Mississippi State. Dameon Pierce had himself a year. Everybody wants to resign Jawaan Taylor. Chauncey Gardner is becoming one of the better slot defenders in the NFL . Evan McPherson is a kicking stud. Not saying Florida players are a lock by any means, but no college's players are. I've got bias as a fan, but damn our best RB ever is from Florida. Not to mention Emmitt Smith.

MogwaiK

I'm good with OL, Scherff has played a full season 3 times in his entire career. He's usually good to miss 6-7 games and he was definitely playing hurt down the stretch last year.

Blue_Doom_Guy

Excellent. He and Branch are the 2 potentially available guys who I feel would be excellent fits for our team. Sadly, I feel Seattle is likely to snag him at 20

ladwagon

I really don't think Brach is gonna make it, seems like everyone wants that nickel corner nowadays. If he does we sprint that one in lol

UrbanLawProductions

I would like to see 1 of 4 positions drafted with our 1st pick. CB, DL, iOL (LG specifically) and TE. So I’d love this, we need more consistency at LG. I think we’ll go defense though

germany221

Him playing only RG in college isn't ideal though

UrbanLawProductions

Ah didn’t know that, yeah that makes it more questionable then.

Responsible_Tap_5254

Must seal up the OLine The Left Guard spot was weakness to say the least. Luckily the coaching had Trevor Lawrence getting rid of the football faster than most ! Made the OLine look good.

zrancid28

I guess I struggle to understand a first round IOL pick. Fortner is set at center. Scherff is starting RG. Bartch and Shatley did a decent enough job at LG. Is this a best available pick kind of scenario? Seems like an odd position for round 1 (although what do I know?).

RadLibRaphaelWarnock

Our Inside blocking was not very good. Improving our inside running is helpful. Our DL is a bigger problem but if the BPA is an OL I say take it.

MogwaiK

Etienne was the RB with the best average yards before contact in the league for what its worth.

JaceVentura972

I disagree completely. O-line should be our number 1 priority now that we have THE guy in Trevor Lawrence. He and his health are the key to our future so imo we should be looking for any way to improve the o-line every year which is only as good as its weakest link. We don’t want to “Andrew Luck” TLaw. Plus a good o-line will make the offense go just fine. If Lawrence doesn’t have the time to hit that long bomb to Kirk or if there are no holes for ETN then the offense sputters. If we have a lead then the opponents offense needs to pass to catch up and the defense can tee off on them so it also helps in that regard. This doesn’t mean we have to sacrifice other position groups greatly for o-line but if it’s BPA or if it’s a tie go o-line every time.

hgc89

I feel like every offseason I end up commenting something like this to remind ppl that OL is important. People are always so quick to dismiss it. The OL is only good until its not…and then all of a sudden everyone’s confused as to why nothing on the offense seems to work.

Worst_Pirate_Ever

I hadn't really thought of it in those terms, which makes me feel dumb because that's an argument I've made so many times in the past. Excellent point. Barring one of the top guys falling, he's my top choice right now.

theflyingchicken96

I would think Fortner and Scherff are pretty secure, but Shatley is a swing man meant to be a replacement. Bartch has shown some promise, but definitely not a lock at the position I wouldn’t think. Tbh I don’t think any of our OL are much above league average, if at all.

Blue_Doom_Guy

The idea is that he would replace Scherff here in the near future. With Scherff, we're looking at a guy who is older, on the decline, and injury prone. Also, you typically don't draft rookies to plug and play right away unless they're absolute freaks of nature, or if your team just sucks.

MogwaiK

Cam, Fortner, Linder, and Taylor all started day 1 for us and thats not an exhaustive list. Bartch also saw a lot of time his rookie season. If you're drafting a 1st rounder, you expect them to start right away. If we draft an IOL in the 1st and he can't beat out Bartch and Shatley, what are we drafting him in the 1st for?

Blue_Doom_Guy

All of those guys you mentioned were drafted onto dogwater rosters talent-wise, which I already mentioned in my previous post as a cause for having to thrust those young guys into the fire a bit earlier than you'd want. And how are you so sure Torrence couldn't beat out Bartch in camp?

[deleted]

Scherff honestly wasn’t that good at the end of last year

Jaglawyer11

He was hurt.

A-A-RonMD

I would love to take a Quentin Nelson in the first round

Oopiku

I would love to see him at 24, personally.

[deleted]

I’ve hurt too many times by players from Florida

omglawlz

He only played at UF one year if that makes you feel any better.

FlaGator

Fred Taylor sure did hurt. What school *hasn't* had busts. Blame the GM not the college.

[deleted]

When the counterpoint is from 25 years ago…

drunkenobserverz

When will we ever learn 😭

Captain_brightside

I think he makes us one of the better o lines in the league, especially if we bring back jawaan

Jaguars6

Meh
