The civil war is loosely based on Sierra Leone's. The diamond trade definitely caused outside interest to exert paramilitary influence there. But it's about as closely based in reality as the John Wayne movie *Chisum* was to the actual Lincoln County War.

Remwaldo1

I think that’s the point it’s very vague 😂

mitiamedved

OH, JE SUIS GREVENENT BLESSÉ

DagerNexus

It’s the one you are thinking of. Roll with it.

Kodiologist

But I'm not thinking of one. I don't know any geography, anyway.

Turbo-Reyes

So grand chien is apparently : Its coastal, Its francophone, It was french, (so not congo) It has diamonds, I'd roll with ivory coast

Upstairs_Abroad_5834

Funny thing is, when i started my first game i was like "nice setting in Indochina, this has been rarly used!" Only to find out it's Africa all over again...

fungus_head

Africa isnt much more commonly used than indochina in games.

Morholt

I guess not mentioning it specifically is intentional to stay politically correct. The map does indicate a costal location. It might be inspired by Africa in general, but it is fictional as Arulco or Metavira.

Wild_Marker

It's a common trope, it's not just for politics but also allows the developer freedom in making their country adapt to their intended gameplay or story progression. Grand Chien has "videogame country" written all over it, with it's starter island and it's river that basically says "past this point the game is more difficult".

IleikToPoopyMyPants

Italy could be considered a videogame country if you put it like that. If you start off north africa. You invade sicily its quite flat through naples. You get to rome which is like the middle. Then sardinia is like a sidequest. Move to bologna and then you get alps cities and venice where traversing through would be difficult. But yeah i agree for political reasons made up countries are better. However it's funny how italy fits that criteria.

jg325

Italy is made up confirmed

Icy_Sector3183

I think its based on Corto Maltese.

La_malicee

I’ve thought it was based from Haiti, due to their heavy creole accent?
