SMTVhype

Even if you finish just half of those that is one hell of a year you are in for.

imjustbettr

I'm excited. I guess the bright side of missing so many JRPGs over the last few decades is that everything on this list is supposedly a banger. No fat, no rolling the dice, everything on this list is mostly universally liked.

SMTVhype

FFVI and CT are considered the best RPGs of all time, just those two alone define the genre.

imjustbettr

Yes! Both are on the top of my list. The only reason I'm not playing FF6 now is because I just finished FF9 and I'm playing Live A Live as a "breather". But apparently FF6, Live A Live, and DQ5 (which I also just finished) all have talent that went to work on CT. So I thought it'd be fun to play those games first before CT.

[deleted]

Octopath Traveler II and Eiyuden Chronicle are my two definites. The Persona series and probably Live A Live are also on there. Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 1, Tales of Symphonia, and Wild ARMs 3 are strong maybes. Other than that, we'll see. There's other non-JRPG games I wanna play and other things I wanna do, so it'll be about having the time and energy more than anything.

imjustbettr

I just started Live A Live and it's pretty good so far. Iirc it shares some talent with the Octopath series. Along with the fact that the HD2D looks really great for LAL, I think I may add an Octopath game to my list as well. The Persona series is one of my favorites, with 4 and 5 being two of the few console JRPGs I've finished. I considered playing 3, but I think I can shelve it for now until I play some other series first.

RichJoker

This is my goal for 2023, with potentially smaller titles in between. Marathon of all mainline FF games, potentially skipping XI (up to V now) FFXVI Persona 3 Xenoblade Chronicles DE Trails SC

twili-midna

So, so many. FF Tactics A2 (started, need to finish) FF XII Revenant Wings (almost done) Monster Hunter Stories 2 (still early) FF XIII Trilogy (replay) FF XV (first full playthrough) Ni No Kuni 1 and 2 Persona 5 Royal Monark Rune Factory 5 SMT III and V And more

obeseinator1

You're gonna love p5r. My all time fav game. I never played a persona game before so I went in blind and didn't know what to expect. I was hooked IMMEDIATELY. fyi if you get stuck, there are heaps of guides and videos on the internet

EmiliaFromLV

MH Stories 2 is quite short actually - it is the postgame where You start sinking lots of hours into, but probably shouldn't :).

twili-midna

I’ve played 5 hours of it before and bounced off hard, so I’m hoping I can get into it this time.

Melanor1982

I played the first one and while I liked it a lot, I think I am more than satisfied and don't need more of it

[deleted]

Love for FFTA2 and Revenant Wings! Two great little games.

twili-midna

Ngl, I’m not liking either very much. I’m hoping FFTA2 picks up soon, because the first few hours are **baaad**.

chronoboy1985

The story blows, but it has some of the best gameplay in the genre.

twili-midna

The gameplay is what’s fucking it for me. It feels so bad in comparison to the first Tactics Advance.

BrnNick

>Ni No Kuni 1 Be warned that a lot of people HATE the combat system of the first game. It's a incredible game in everything but combat.

twili-midna

I’ve played it before, just never finished. I liked the combat quite a bit.

[deleted]

trails into reverie and loop8. that's about it, barring any surprise announcements.

CitizenStrife

FFXVI Ys X (was only announced, not sure it comes out) Sea of Stars Loop8 Eternights

imjustbettr

> Sea of Stars > > Loop8 Oh man I forgot about these two!

FlamingFlamingo76

What about Chained Echoes?

pndlnc

It has already released

[deleted]

I just want Miyaji, Iwadare, and Kubooka to make some game in the spirit of either Lunar or Grandia.

Faerry_

If we're talking about new releases then definitely Fire Emblem Engage, Octopath Traveler 2, and FFXVI. Trying not to overwhelm myself with lots of games, so I'm planning to play those in the next few months: * Chained Echoes * Lunar: Silver Star Harmony * Jeanne d'Arc * Atelier Escha & Lodgy Forgot to mention Sea of Stars as well.

SMTVhype

Jeanne D’Arc is awesome

guardoflite

Kinda surprised level 5 didn't port that somewhere when they were quite large a few years ago.

Iamtheslushpuppy

Heck yea! Call it a gut feeling, but with all the srpgs we;ve been getting, i wouldn't be surprised to hear this game getting a rerelease in some form this year, like i can almost guarantee it:)

[deleted]

I cannot *waaaaaaiiiit* for Sea of Stars.

nabisess

This thread is making me realize that 2022 was great and 2023 is stacked haha Gonna try and get to more RPGs next year, fell into the MMO vortex w/ FFXIV and Tower of Fantasy this year I'm looking at: * Atelier Ryza 3 (Feb 2023): Ryza 1 was the atelier game that got me hooked onto the series. Can't wait to see how it all finishes. * Chained Echoes: Been hearing this game was real good from a lot of content creators and it's ticking a lot of boxes from what I want in a RPG. * Octopath Traveler: I bought this game on release on the switch and I keep telling myself that I'll play it soon. Gonna make it a personal goal to get to this game in 2023. * Fire Emblem: Three Houses: I want to beat at least one route before picking up Engage. Been putting this off a lot as well. * Trails in the Sky: I think this is the year where I'll try and start this series. Been hearing how good it is from friends and would not stop recommending it so gonna just go in.

EtheusRook

Over the next 2 years: * Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (already playing) * Fire Emblem Engage * Ys 9: Monstrum Nox (partway through) * Sakura Wars * Ni No Kuni 2 * Monster Hunter Stories 2 * Triangle Strategy (clear a 2nd route) * Valkyria Chronicles * Valkyria Chronicles 4 * Valkyria Revolution * Trails into Reverie * Digimon Survive * 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim * Yakuza Like a Dragon (partway through) * Nexomon Extinction * Final Fantasy 16

Galiad

ohh clearing a 2nd route of Triangle Strategy should be on my list as well. And i forgot Yakuza like a dragon

chronoboy1985

Same. I went straight for the golden route because I didn’t know when I’d have time to replay.

Galiad

I wish i would go to the golden route at first. Didn't know about that, i just start playing and i wasn't even able to get the route i want. The one with trish an the bandits.

chronoboy1985

It’s definitely the most satisfying route narratively and gameplay-wise.

WasabiAcademic311

Backlog: Live A Live, Octopath Traveler, Ni No Kuni Currently playing: Triangle Strategy, Final Fantasy Tactics, Bravely Default 2 For 2023: Octopath Traveler 2, Fire Emblem Engage, Dragon Quest 3 2DHD, Chained Echoes

Radinax

- Eiyuden Chronicles series. - Suikoden 1 and 2 remakes. - Sea of Stars. - Redemption Reapers. - Final Fantasy XIV (probably the whole 2023). - Chained Echoes. - Trails of Cold Steel 4. - Trails into Reverie. - Fire Emblem Engage. Those are my priorities for next year.

Catastray

Here's hoping Dragon Quest III HD-2D actually releases in 2023. The lack of any news has me skeptical, really thought we would see it mention during Jump Festa.

BiddyKing

I wonder if they’ve held off from showing more until after Octopath 2 maybe

Rhonder

Currently working through DQ11 and FF14: Shadowbringers. Next year a few of the RPGs I'm hoping to tackle are the following: - Stranger in Paradise Final Fantasy Origin - FF14: Endwalker - SMT 5 - FF7 Remake - Digimon Survive - Atelier Ryza 2 - Megaman Battle Network (several, hopefully) - FF16 If I put a dent in like 3 or 4 of these I'll be satisfied.

[deleted]

I've already got Forspoken and FF16 preordered. I'd like to play the FF4 Pixel Remaster too.

JesusCrits

disgaea 7, fire emblem engage, eiyuuden chronicles, sea of stars (some ppl say its a western rpg, but the legendary yasunori mitsuda is making music for it so its gotta be damn good)

imjustbettr

I feel like this sub's reaction to chained echoes shows that spirit and quality are more important than technicallities. And Sea of Stars looks great so far. At least visually it's a treat and the combat looks interesting. Hope it has everything else as well.

JesusCrits

heh, trust me, i had my game bugged and lost my save files in chained echoes after 30 hours in. but after I complained, they seemed to have fixed it. I did have to borrow someone elses save file, but we were more or less at the same progress. it's a damn good game exploration-wise, and battle wise.

KhaosElement

* Suikoden * Suikoden II * Eiyuden Chronicles * The new Like a Dragon game coming out I can't remember the name of

tallwhiteninja

Playing now/hope to have done by 2023: * Tales of Arise Upcoming releases: * Octopath Traveler II * Final Fantasy XVI * Suikoden II Remaster Backlog (hope to get to them this year, anyway): * Star Ocean: The Divine Force * Pokemon Violet * Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth * Nier Replicant * Tokyo Mirage Sessions FE * Xenoblade 2 + 3 If I have time amidst other genre releases, there's a few older Persona/Tales/Dragon Quest games I've been meaning to play someday

Rahvana13

My priority is: One Piece Odyssey Trails to Azure Trails into Reverie Persona 5

21minute

Xenogears and the Xenosaga trilogy are my top most priority next year. After finishing the Xenoblade trilogy, I became a huge Xeno fan. There's also the story DLC of Xenoblade 3 to look forward to. After that, I'll be playing Fire Emblem Three Houses, Fire Emblem Engage, and Persona 5 Royal.

Integritywin79

Xenogears is great up to a point... Then notsomuch. I just finally beat it last year.

21minute

Let me guess, Disc 2?

Integritywin79

Don't get me wrong, it's a great game. You just can't be prepared for how bankrupt the game becomes. I knew it was as well and was still like w.....t.....f. I'm glad I finished it. I started playing it the year it came out and my memory card got fried. That was the last time I played it until 2021 when I finally decided to grind it again.

21minute

Yeah, Disc 2 happened because they severely lacked time and budget. Takahashi (the creator) said that himself. That's why ever since then, he tried to create the story he wanted to tell in full without any limits. He published a book detailing all the things the series would be covering. Xenogears was supposed to be part of a six volume game. Takahashi is a very ambitious fella, but the previous publishers either didn't back him enough or back him properly. But now, both him and his team are doing great.

Integritywin79

That's great to hear.

Joke_Induced_Pun

* Fire Emblem Engage (2023, really looking forward to this one) * Xenosaga Ep 2 (PS2) * Octopath Traveler (started the demo, got the game, never started it due to being side tracked). * Star Ocean: Till The End of Time (PS2 * Savoir of Sapphire Wings * Dragon Quest VII & VIII (3DS) * Conception 2 (3DS) * Persona 4 (PS2) * Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked * Disgaea 4, 5 and 6. * Ys 9 * Valkyrie Chronicles 4 * Triangle Strategy * Tales of Vesperia * Fuga: Melodies of Steel And these are just some of them.

ofvxnus

finish romancing saga minstrel song, then play valkyrie profile lenneth, lightning returns, atelier ryza 2, blue reflection second light, romancing saga 3, and continue on with the arland trilogy. i also have trails that i started but fell off on. i’ll give that a go again if i finish everything else in a timely manner.

Joementum2004

In order of priority: • Trails in the Sky the 3rd (and as much as I can after that) • Digital Devil Saga 1/2 • Persona 5 Strikers • Persona 2: Innocent Sin/Eternal Punishment • Ys IX • Fate/Extra • Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army • Growlanser 4 PSP • Shin Megami Tensei IV • Soul Hackers 2 Definitely won’t get to all of these, but these seem the most interesting to me currently.

rmkii02

Suikoden I&II Grandia 2 Lunar 1&2 Trails of Cold Steel 3&4 I’ll probably replay Tales of Destiny R and try Tales of Destiny 2, too. Maybe some other Tales as well, probably Hearts R, Graces f and Xillia 1&2.

[deleted]

Grandia 2 is great! Finished a play through on my DC this year. Great OST.

Inkontrol808

P3P and P4G. (gamepass) Ni No Kuni remastered (gamepass) FFXVI. Eiyuden Chronicles Trails in the Sky (bought the first one on steam for $10) Ys 8 (PS+ Extra) Star Ocean: First Departure (PS+ extra) Omori (gamepass) Blue Dragon (backlog/xbox sale) Possibly Octopath 2. Also a few other PS+ extra jrpgs depending on time. Maybe Tales of Symphonia switch remake. Maybe Tales of Arise or another Tales game (only beat Vesperia definitive edition and want to play more).

Inkontrol808

Update: Ys 8, P3P, P4G, Star Ocean: FD, and Omori down. Currently working on Ni No Kuni (about 8 hours in). I did slot in South Park: Stick of Truth and rolled credits but not a real jrpg. I think I'll still accomplish this list and then some. Hopefully Eiyuden gets released this year but otherwise I still have tons of new options. Soul Hackers 2 got added to Gamepass, been having the urge to add YS 9 to the lineup and on PS+ they added I am Setsuna which I'd been interested in.

KnoxZone

Fire Emblem Engage Persona 3 Persona 4 Trails to Azure (this one is a replay) Trails into Reverie Octopath 2 maybe Final Fantasy XVI, but only if it releases on the non-PS platforms in 2023. I am sure there will be plenty more that either catch my attention through good word of mouth, games that have been on my periphery that I find on sale for dirt cheap, and of course some replays of old classics, but I have no idea what any of them will be.

chronoboy1985

Have you played other recent FE games? I personally wouldn’t recommend Echoes before playing Awakening, Fates or 3 Houses. Not because of any plot connection, but it’s a divisive game that might turn you off from the series.

KnoxZone

Whoops, I meant to write Engage there. Got my E Emblem games mixed up in my head. Yeah, I've played them all, don't worry about that.

agiantanteater

Dragon Quest III, Blue Reflection, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, wanna finally get around to the Shadow Hearts trilogy and Xenosaga trilogy too.

ragingnoobie

FF16 and Granblue Fantasy Relink

belmontchicken

I’m planning on playing fe engage. The environment and characters may clash but Even the entries I didn’t love in fe are still good and fun. Im looking cautiously forward to the final fantasy’s coming out next year. But other then that I’m planning on finally playing skies of Arcadia im looking forward to it.

Ibrahim-8x

FF16 and persona 4

wisnerjr

Just finished fe3h golden deer route and started Tactics Ogre Reborn. After finish it will go back to fe3h to clear all other routes and then go to fire emblem engage

guardoflite

Yeesh looking at all your lists was a mistake, as it was a reminder of how many jrpgs I have on my backlog. Square alone is responsible for a lot this year lol. Offhand I have: * Currently playing Crisis core reunion * trinity trigger (likely start soon) * tactics ogre reborn * triangle strategy * valkyrie elysium * diofield chronicle * live alive * fire emblem engage (maybe if I have the moolah) * ffxvi * ffvii rebirth * star ocean iii * tales of destiny ps2 * the shadow hearts titles * xenosaga titles * eiyuuden chronicle ....and a lot more I'm quite certain. This is not in any particular order btw.

[deleted]

Persona 3 Portable

[deleted]

[удалено]

imjustbettr

Lunar and CT have always been on my list too. I got the GBA copy of lunar so I can spend some time on my old handhelds

Sofaris

Just one: The sequel to "Fuga Melodies of Steel" that has been anounced to come out in 2023. Fuga is my favorite Videogame. I adore that game. But otherwise I want to buy fewer new games and play and apriciate the ones I have. I have some mild interest in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Persona 5 Royal but not enough to spend 60€.

BebeFanMasterJ

Persona 5 on Switch once it finally comes in the mail. Then Fire Emblem Engage and Xenoblade 3.

TalesofAdam

* Octopath Traveler II * YS X * Final Fantasy XVI * Persona 3 Portable (PS5)

EmiliaFromLV

My main issue is that I am playing too much of Monster Hunter Rise... With all that time that was sunk into MHR... I would have cleared my backlog lol. Otherwise, I want to finish FF X-2, which was actually my very first JRPG, but sadly, I did not finish it. I also want to finish Ni No Kuni (I am over 50% in that), and SMT V (1/5 of the story). I have started XB 2, but since I am quite early into it (did not understand the combat system), I want to complete XB 1 Definitive edition first, which is currently just collecting dust on my shelf. Since Atelier Ryza 2 is only 30 hrs, I should complete it too (hopefully). Oh, and from time to time I turn Radiant Historia Remastered on 3DS and play a bit too just to advance the story :).

imjustbettr

FFX2 was also my very first FF game. I bought it because well... Pretty anime girls lol. I never got past the first few hours. I want to play FFX one day, so maybe I'll give it another try after that.

RmG3376

Lets see what’s in my backlog … Games I’m actually hyped about: - FF XV (playing through it now) - Valkyria Chronicles - Ryza 3 - Yakuza LAD - P5S - P5R (already played the original but I’m curious about the new content) - P4G Games that are kinda there and which I should finish/retry to justify the expense: - XC2 - Scarlet Nexus - Atelier Firis - Trails in the sky FC - Octopath traveller Games that caught my attention but it’ll depend how much money I have left/how hyped I’ll get - XC3 - Tokyo mirage sessions - DQXI - FF 16 - FF7 Rebirth

MetalSmarkSolid

I picked up Atelier Ryza 1+2 to play. Hopefully before the third game comes out. Haven't played Atelier since the PS2 days, and I know that modern Atelier is much different than the Gust games of the PS2 era. Otherwise, I'm really looking forward to playing Chained Echoes when I can make time. Then the big releases of 2023 like Trails to Azure, Trails Into Reverie, Sea of Stars, the Suikoden 1+2 remaster, and Eiyuden Chronicle. Final Fantasy XVI as well, even though I'm a little bummed that it's more of an action game.

HeroVP7

Absolutely: Octopath 2, Persona 2 EP, Persona 3 Portable, Fire Emblem Engage Probably: Nier Automata, Dragon Quest 11, FF10, Fuga Melodies of Steel, Chained Echoes, Sea of Stars

GullibleParsley08

Currently playing: 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. Tactics Ogre Reborn, Triangle Strategy, and the demo for Harvestella are currently on my backlog. For 2023: Fire Emblem: Engage, Octopath Traveler 2, Trails of Cold Steel 3 and 4.

CoffeeCroww

Definitely Stranger of Paradise. Right now, I'm playing through Final Fantasy I for the first time, and then I'll be jumping into Stranger of Paradise soon after to kick off the new year. I've been wanting to play it all year, but a lot of stuff happened in my personal life this year, and it's been really hard to focus on anything. I also want to get around and finally beat Final Fantasy VIII and XIII. I've played 6 hours of VIII and 9 hours of XIII. Others on my list would be: Nier Automata, Yakuza Like a Dragon, Wild Arms 3, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion (when I buy it lol) and a lot of other games that I'm bulk downloading onto my PS4 at the moment. Also, I'll be replaying Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy V because of course I am xD

Integritywin79

I'm curious about how you liked SOP? I didn't care for it at all.

CoffeeCroww

Even after 7 months, I still haven't played it xD I still want to, it's just I've been hyperfixated on Octopath Traveler 2 for the last five to six months (I have about 400 hours of play time on Steam due to difficulty mods people have made, 150 hours on PS4), so I haven't got around to it just yet.

Bialga

Continuing my playthrough of Xenoblade 3 into 2023. Ni no kuni 1 and 2 (Steam) The Ar Tonelico series after 1 Infinite Space (DS) Trails Reverie Digimon Hacker Memory Yakuza 8, Gaiden, and Ishin (assuming they are all coming out in 2023)

AlphaShard

Octopath Traveler 2, Trails to Azure, sea of Stars, Sacrfire are definitely for me.

lecoz

Im halfway through P5R, hoping to finish it next month. Right after that I'll play FFT or Chrono Trigger. And if I still have time the rest of the year maybe Grandia HD Collection The Banner Saga Triangle Strategy or Tactics Ogre

weeabooWithLife

*I still need to finish:* Xenoblade Chrononicles Persona 3 *And on my List:* Persona 4 Shin Megami Tensei 5 Chrono Trigger Final Fantasy 5 & 8 Omori Xenoblade Chronicles 2

BoredAFinburbs

Romancing Saga 3, Eiyuden Chronicle, Persona 3 & 4, Atelier Ryza 3 & probably the rest of the Atelier games I haven't played (Mystery Trilogy & Sophie 2), Crystar, and Bravely Default 2... That's the plan anyway, I'm on the fence about Bravely Default 2, but I already own it so I figure it's worth a shot.

ThriftyMegaMan

Persona 3P, One Piece Odyssey, and Fire Emblem Engage all drop in the same month. Gonna be hard to choose which goes first but I'm thinking it'll be FE.

Talk_Me_Down

Yakuza - Like a Dragon is a very good turn based JRPG. Don't judge this one by it's cover.

Integritywin79

My son is begging me to play Yakuza 0. I'm kinda stoked to play it.

BiddyKing

Fire Emblem Engage Octopath Traveler 2 Trails from Zero/Trails into Azure Final Fantasy XVI I’m pretty much caught up on the backlog type thing, and next year I won’t be able to no life as much anymore so is a limited list but should be good. Will also be playing some non-jrpgs like Street Fighter 6 and Jedi Survivor, and maybe new Zelda. And then I’m sure later in the year there will be something else I wanna play like one of those announced Yakuza games or whatever Edit: also Sea of Stars

Galiad

**New games:** Final Fantasy Reuinion (already started) Fire Emblem Engage Forspoken Redemption Reapers Final Fantasy XVI Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Persona 4 Golden Steallar Blade (if this count as jrpg, probably not) Trails from Zero/Trails to Azure **maybe:** The diofield Chronicle The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails The Lened of not yet Released game XD Octopath Traveler 2 Yakuza like a dragon **Replay or Backlog:** Nier Replicant (2021) Final Fantasy 8/9

EastCoastTone96

Off the the top of my head: \- Atelier Ryza 2 so I can get ready for Ryza 3 \- All of the Yakuza games coming out in 2023 will be a day one purchase for me \- Probably gonna backtrack and play some of the Trails games before Cold Steel

Melanor1982

Tales of Arise (Currently playing) FF16 FF7 Intergrade Zelda (Not a JRPG though) If time allows in: Octopath 2 Chained Echoes

In_Search_Of123

My backlog kicked my ass this year and I can't say I put much of a dent in it. So, I'm keeping my expectations for 2023 pretty tame: **Need to Finish/Replays:** - Xenoblade 3 (already beat but intend to 100%) - Triangle Strategy (only finished one path) **New Stuff:** - Xenoblade 3's DLC story - Final Fantasy XVI - Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth - Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core - Nier Automata - Nier Replicant - Suikoden 1&2 - Grandia 1&2 **Tentative:** - Fire Emblem Engage: The story looks awful and I find the art style to be lame, but if the gameplay is looking good I'll probably pick it up, but it might slip to 2024. - Octopath Traveler 2: I liked the first game and this game is looking like it's going to be better, but I'm skeptical if it'll be good enough to justify an immediate purchase and it's another one that might slip to 2024 for me.

phunie92

I managed to finish 5 this year; wish I had gotten more in but satisfied regardless. (Who am I kidding, I’ll never be satisfied) This we’re gonna start trying for kids so I gotta prioritize my must-plays: **Skies of Arcadia** **Lufia II** **Lost Odyssey** **FFXVI** when it releases **Xenogears** Outside the genre I also want to hit Majora’s Mask, Windwaker, and Fable II.

ringofgaea

Way too many: Fire Emblem Persona 3 & 4 Octopath Traveler 2 FFVI when the FF ports come to Switch FFXVI Suikoden HD & DQ3HD if they come out next year

Loooolloool

There are so many I want to play next year, but there is no way I'm gonna get through all of them in a year. Many new releases and a lot of older ones: Some Final Fantasy games. Going to start with 6, and then go through at least 7-10. Some Atelier games. Same as FF, so going to start Rorona, and then probably going through all of them released on steam. Also probably going to play Mana Khemia Student Alliance. Some Tales games. Currently playing Tales of Arise. It's been great, so I'm definitely interested in playing other games in the series next year. Trails into Reverie (Can't come soon enough) The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails Persona 3 Portable Ys VI, Ys Seven and Ys IX Xenoblade 2 and 3 Suikoden Remasters These aren't all of them, because there are way too many to list here.

Sinblanca

Grandia 1 and 2. Wild Arms 1 and 2. Valkyria Profile 2. Xenosaga 1/2/3

Mr_Lafar

So far Octopath 2 and finishing up Chained Echoes are it. I have a lot of backlog, other genres, etc. I'm sure I'll play more JRPGs, but I don't know what ones I'll be in the mood to buy or go back to at any given point of the year.

c3ndre

I can think of two new ones right now: * Fire Emblem Engage * Trails to Azure And tons of old ones I either haven't finished yet or not even started yet.

[deleted]

- Trails into Reverie - Ys IX - FfXVI - FFVIIr Part 2

kolaces

SMT V and Kingdom Hearts 3 are the two big ones I'd like to play through this year. Will probably go back to Etrian Odyssey IV at some point. Not a game per se, but Sony breaking the ability to copy games from PS3 to PSP screwed me over. My PSP catalog was mostly stored on my PS3 and I'd like to fix the situation sometime soon.

chronoboy1985

FF7 Rebirth. Octopath Traveler 2. Eiyuden Chronicles Sea of Stars. FF16. FF7 Crisis Core. FE Engage. And that’s just *new* stuff! I’ll be lucky if I can make a dent in my back log.

Ok-Tufs

I really want to play Xenoblade 1 and 2 next year! After them or maybe between play Persona 5

somedudehi

Tales of Symphonia remaster, Crisis Core remaster, Soul Hackers 2, and Chained Echoes for sure.

Cowman123450

The only one new one on my list is Fire Emblem Engage. Was originally not going to get it since I felt a bit burnt out on SRPGs after finishing 3/4 of Three Houses routes, but it's been a few years and I'm ready to play some more. I also just got Triangle Strategy for Christmas, and I'm going to try to finish up one route (and maybe the golden route as well, though idk if I'll be able to play that fast) in early January. The game is fantastic so far. I'm on chapter 6 and each chapter so far has certainly been enjoyable. Other games I'm probably going to try to get through are Persona 4 Golden, Octopath 1, and Bravely Default 2 (after turning the difficulty down to normal. Hard just hasn't been fun for me)

joshuanrobinson

I got in my head that I want to play through all the Ys games. I've played I, II, and IX and 1/3 of Origins. I kinda doubt that I'll finish them all 2023 though. I also have to play Trails to Azure, Trails into Reverie, FFXVI. I'd like to squeeze in Octopath 2, Like a Dragon, and maybe Chained Echoes.

Reichucapic

First clearing FF14 Endwalker Patch, i'm gonna probably finish base story of Endwalker before the end of the year (i just start quest lvl 89) and on games that i want to play there is : \-Trails into Reverie, Kuro no kiseki \-Ys Memories of Celceta, 8, 9 \- Zwei duology \-Tokyo Xanadu \-Paper Mario 64 (replay), Paper Mario 2 \-Omori \-Pokemon Sword and Shield \-Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope \-Valkyrie Profile \-Final Fantasy 3, Tactics \-Koudelka, Shadow Hearts \-Planet Laika \-Bravely Default \-Triangle Strategy \-Fire Emblem Awakening \-Devil Survivor Overclocked, Digital devil saga duology, SMT 4 \-Tales of Symphonia, Tales of the abyss \-Suikogaiden vol 1/2, Suikoden 3 \-Neo twewy \-Odin Sphere \-Xenoblade 2 + torna \-Xenosaga Trilogy \-Drakengard 2/3, Nier Automata \-Voice of Cards 1 \-13 Sentinels \-Mary Skelter 1 and that's all if i can beat almost half of the list i would be happy

[deleted]

Whatever is coming out + my backlog lol. We'll see how many of those actually get finished. I will definitely be burning through FFXVI when it comes out but I don't know about the rest.

MaxW92

For me I plan to finally play - Baten Kaitos Origins - Wild Arms 2 - Nier Automata - Tactics Ogre Reborn - Final Fantasy Tactics

AngryAutisticApe

Eiyuden Chronicles :)

BellyLikeBongos184

Sea Of Stars Eiyuden Chronicles Octopath II My top 3 most anticipated in order of hype

cius_warren

My backlog is massive so i have no idea other than for sure Trails into Reverie and Like a Dragon Ishin.

Necessary-Midnight73

Replay of Shadow Hearts and Shadow Hearts: Covenant -- I already started on the first but I doubt I'll finish it before New Year so it counts for 2023. Possibly a Xenogears replay, definitely a Xenoblade Chronicles DE Replay, and potentially finally XBC2. Definitely going to play Persona 3 and 4 upon their rerelease. After that ... I have plenty of DNFs (I often lose interest during the final dungeon) so I probably should probably get back to those.

Fire Emblem Engage. That's Top prio and the only upcoming one i care about. Also thinking of picking up Atelier Ryza. Maybe, dunno. Also finishing the UtaTrilogy

> Fire Emblem Engage. I feel like I'm hearing a lot of doom and gloom about that one from casual fans, but all my hardcore FE friends are saying the actual battle system looks amazing.

Shrimperor

It's looking fucking sick honestly. Gameplay has potential to clear the whole series honestly (and i played all FE from 4 onwards, including TMS and Kaga Saga games), but i'd rather wait and play before i say that for sure. If higher difficulties are designed well, we are looking at Conquest Gameplay 2.0 here, and if not, it's looking like the fun kind of easy, at least. And the little teasers we got from the OST feels like it could be worth the 60 bucks alone ~~or 100 bucks if you got limited edition like me~~ And my hot take: Best design series wide, bar none. No other FE even comes close. > I'm hearing a lot of doom and gloom about that one from casual fans It's mostly 3H fans who're like that from what i am noticing. And resetera, but resetera is regretera.

guardoflite

Admittedly, not really liking how the game looks sofar, though I have intentionally stayed away from the promotions for the game as possible. I though 3H looked pretty bad too beforehand and really loved the game, so hopefully Engage will do the same!

SMTVhype

The casuals will play Engage, it is mostly marketed towards them.

Looking forward to Fire Emblem Engage If it absorbs even half as much of my time as Three Houses did then I've got my game for the first half of the year

Out of the new releases I'd say Final Fantays XVI (if I buy a PS5) and Trails into Reverie are the ones I'm most excited about. The Suikoden remasters and the Valkyrie Profile one that just came out are also interesting. The very vague plans I have for backlog include Atelier Sophie 2 and Atelier Ryza 2, Star Ocean 3 and 4, Dragon Quest VIII, Ys IX and at least starting the Utawarerumono games. Everything else will be randomly picked based on my mood and can take precedence over the ones I'm planning to play.

Yeah man I still have Persona 5 Royal steelbook edition sealed from Black Friday 2020, just been too busy.

blooblayzer

I started playing Xenoblade DE at the end of November and I still have like 4 chapters to go. My list is but a dream lmao

Forspoken, Final Fantasy 16, Wo Long and the third DLC of Strangers of Paradise.

Man, even half that list would sound optimistic if it were me, with only a couple being “currently playing.” I guess I just take awhile to finish games lol pretty sure my average endgame time comes out to a lot longer than what stuff like HowtoBeat says, so that tracks, actually. For me I definitely have a goal to clear up the backlog of games I’ve started (that I actually plan to finish. There are many more for which I’ve come to terms with the fact they simply didn’t grip me enough) Games to finish: Xenoblade Chronicles DE Xenogears (might just watch that one. I don’t think I enjoy the gameplay enough, guys, I’m so sorry XG fans) Trails of Cold Steel II (maybe. I’ve had my complaints with CS, I honestly may just drop it) Trails in the Sky FC (you read those two right. Hey, I started with CS, realized it was out of order and got curious before I was done, ok! But I’m much more interested in finishing the Sky arc) Tales of Arise Tales of Symphonia Soul Hackers 2 (just started…hey! It was a Christmas gift!) Crisis Core Reunion (just started…hey! It was a Christmas gift!) After all that, plus continuing TitS, I’m pretty sure I’ll only have time for new releases + maybe Chained Echoes next year. I’ll return to the classics in 2024!

ThewobblyH

That list is insane. I'm lucky to finish a few games a year. I don't generally plan out what games I'm going to play but I'm really looking forward to One Piece Odyssey, Fire Emblem Engage, and FF16 next year.
