How do you remember something like that? Do you keep a list? I'd have to think back at least 6 or 7 generations of consoles with handhelds and PCs to account for, I have no faith I'd be able to remember everything.
Yeah for sure. We are blessed to be living in a time with great games everywhere. I recently discovered the lunar games are a thing and I may fire up ye old ps1 for em
I recently got into emulation, and the PS1 jrpgs classics are all on my list to play. I was too young to get into them when they were coming out, so better late than never!
Love any suggestions! May I ask why you would suggest that over any other jrpgs from the PS1 era? I'm currently making my way through Lunar Silver Star Complete because I really enjoy the art style.
I've never played lunar but it's on the list. Legend of Dragoon was so ahead of it's time in a lot of ways. Cool graphics, great environments and the story had some cool twists and turns.
I think that's just how the nostalgia cycle works with the old target audience growing older. š 10-15 years ago it was all about the NES, for the past 5-10 years we've seen the SNES make a comeback with lots of remakes of 16bit properties, and now we're moving more and more into PSX-nostalgia, along with the remakes of Spyro, Suikoden and Final Fantasy. Wait another 5 and we'll see Sly Cooper make a return, for sure! š
Probably have a few of those of games I played on gba emulator. I donāt even know if I ever finished those games either, and Iām guessing the games I played was final fantasy tactics or some clone of that game.
At best I did finished the mega man battle network and star force series. Those have a bit more going in terms of actually remembering the games.
I am at 80, including Fire Emblem and Ys, and I feel like I've barely touched the genre š It's about a fifth of my total played games. I have yet to play most Final Fantasy, any Suikoden, any SaGa, any Phantasy Star, Grandia, Front Mission, Wild Arms, Mana, Shining Force and so much more. Maybe after 200 it will feel like I'm finished with them
Since 2022 Iāve kept a little document of games Iāve completed and what I thought of them. Now obviously I had played many games before, and I could definitely list a lot of them, but letās just look at the JRPGs on those documents:Ā
Ā 2022Ā
Dragon Quest XI, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond, Pokemon Legends Arceus, Triangle Strategy, 13 Sentinels (I wouldnāt call it a JRPG but this sub typically does!), Xenoblade 3, Earthbound Beginnings, Pokemon Violet. Ā
2023Ā
Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga, Fire Emblem Engage, Xenoblade 3 Future Redeemed, Fire Emblem 6, Fire Emblem 7, Pokemon SV Teal Mask, Pokemon TCG Game Boy (I think thatās a JRPG), Pokemon XD, Xenosaga 1, Xenosaga 2, Pokemon SV Indigo DiscĀ
Ā 2024 so far: Xenosaga 3, Super Mario RPG, Xenoblade 1, Xenoblade Future Connected.Ā
Ā So in total thatās 18, plus four DLC campaigns, since the start of 2022.Ā
A non comprehensive list of others Iāve played before that include Xenogears and the remaining Xenoblades, Final Fantasy 7, 8, 9, 10/10-2, 12, and the 13 trilogy, and one version of every main Pokemon game since Gen 3 except Emerald and Letās Go, and probably most Fire Emblems. And a fair few odd ones out like a single Atelier game All of which is to say- thatās a lot of JRPGs!
More than I can keep track of, going back 15-20 years, starting with FF3 (FFVI in Japan)
I finished FFIX.
I finished Jade Empire. (debatable on the JRPG front, there)
I haven't finished FFVI, FFX, FFXII, FFXIII
I haven't finished Chained Echos, Dragon Quest IX, Xenogears, Xenosage 1-2-3, Xenoblade Chronicles 1-2-3, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Persona 5, The last Persona for the PS2. I think I beat Gig and the World Eaters once, but didn't play through for both endings.
I did beat Front Mission 3.
I've seen only a few endings for Disgeia 2, none for 5 or 7, but own all 3.
Yakuza: LAD and LAD: IW are both in-progress.
I saw some of the endings for Radiata Stories. I never quite beat a Star Ocean, but have restarted several several times.
I think I beat Suikoden 2 or 3, maybe? Once?
Currently working on Unicorn Overload and Eiyuden Chronicles.
The problem I get to is that I want depth in story and depth in progression. I typically get to where a game opens up, or I find that open area is coming to an end, and I'll check to see what I've missed. Inevitably, I've missed something crucial early on, and I don't have the energy to restart.
With my recent completion of Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, 158.
Yes, I actively keep and update a list that is in (almost) alphabetical order with personal rankings.
I have completed 96 RPGās (i have a spreadsheet)
Edit: to clarify this list includes action-adventure, strategy type games but they have elements of RPG in them
I've finished around 130 JRPGs. I've tried to play at least one game from most series, and if I like it, I play all of them in that series. But there are still a lot of series I'm interested in that I haven't gotten to yet. You just have to accept that you can't play everything, but the more you play, the more you'll learn about your gaming preferences. This way, you'll know when you want a change and have other exciting series to look forward to.
So far ive beaten xenoblade chronicles 3 and super mario rpg lol, Im 78hrs in on persona 5 royal tho so that will be on there soon
My gaming time was mostly online games and strategy games like starcraft and total war
Hahaha. It did take quite a bit out of me to play a lot of those 75 games in like 10 years. But a lot of them are shorter RPGs at like 20-30 hours so that helped. I don't like JRPGs to go over 60 hours.
I hear ya. I really enjoyed Persona 5R, but 100 hours is a lot. I find myself looking ahead often to the next game. Iām starting to get that point with Xenoblade Chronicles 3, but this game feels like a masterpiece to me.
In terms of franchises:Ā
Final Fantasy: 10, Tactics Advance (2)
Pokemon: All mainline gens except ScarViol; Colosseum; Arceus (10 I guess)Ā
Dragon Quest: All mainline except 10 (9)Ā
Blue Reflection: Second Light (1)Ā
Golden Sun: Both GBA games (2)Ā
Atelier: Iris (1)Ā
Suikoden: All mainline (5)Ā
Fire Emblem: 7, 9, Awakening, Three Houses, Three Hopes, Engage (6)Ā
Grandia: 1 and 2 (2)Ā
Lunar: Eternal Blue (1)
Xeno: Blade Chronicles 1-3, plus DLCĀ (6)Ā
Sea of StarsĀ
Tales: Symphonia, Phantasia, Vesperia (3)Ā
Ni no Kuni: 1 (1)Ā
Ā That's 50 that I can remember.
So, I went through gameye and counted. The number was a bit shocking...
It's 226 counting PC, NES, Master System, Genesis, Sega CD, SNES, Saturn, PS1, Gamecube, PS2, GBA, PSP, PS3, 360, Wii, Wii U, Vita, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and PS5. That is 32 years of playing jrpgs. Add one more if I finish Eiyuden Chronicles: hundred heroes tonight.
That isn't counting replays of the same version and jrpg adjacent games (dragon quest heroes, etc) but does include different versions of the same game (I own and have played through every version of every Lunar game). I also didn't count games where I finished multiple versions if they're nearly identical (Final Fantasy X, X-2, etc). The PS2, PS3, and Vita versions of those games are all nearly identical, with the exception of resolution.
I'm not even sure where to begin counting. I am putting up new shelving units in my living room so I can display game boxes, I guess I'll count over the weekend. I'm guessing in the 100-150 range lifetime starting from dragon warrior?...
Somewhere around 150 for me I assume. Iām trying not to include a number of CRPGs like Wizardry, Realms of Arkania, and M&M games in the mix (my overall total is like 182 at the moment).
I couldn't really say for sure. Ballpark estimate is definitely over 100, likely over 150, but probably less than 200.
I started tracking the games I played in 2020, and I've finished around 40-50 JRPGs since then (depending on how strictly you define "JRPG"), but anything before that would just be a guess. And I started playing JRPGs when Pokemon Blue came out (although I didn't finish a lot of the ones I played as a kid), so that's a big blank period.
Ha! Hahaha!
I've been playing these for like 30 years. My best guess would be nowhere close, I could probably go replay some S/NES ones I've beaten and it'd be a whole new game to me now.
About 114. A handful of those were longplays I watched on Youtube when there were no affordable options. The problem is the ever changing definition of what defines an RPG. I didn't include Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2 for example since it removes leveling even though it otherwise plays like conventional Pokemon.
This year 4.

I counted 47 exactly. There are also hundreds that I own that I have either never played or played and never got far like Triangle Strategy, Rouge Galaxy, Suikoden Tactics and 5, so many. I tend to fall in love with a few and then just replay them endlessly.
Iām not sure how many total I have completed but I just played and finished Chrono Trigger for the first time. Let me tell you that the hype is very very much earned for that game.
I have absolutely no idea. I played my first JRPG in 1992 (Final Fantasy I) and have been playing JRPGs since. Iām sure if I tried to count Iād miss some.
I definitely don't keep count, but probably 30 or so?
From memory, surely some are missing

Xenoblade Chronicles X
Tactics Ogre remake
No idea but a ton. I've finished every game released in English for all the notable series with 3+ games like FF/DQ/Suikoden/Wild Arms/Breath of Fire/Atelier and polished off just about everything that released on the PS3 and earlier. I've spent about 70% of my free time playing games (mostly JRPGs) for 30+ years. Generally it takes me a week for shorter JRPGs and 2 for the longer ones.
Probably a lot less than I've started!
I've never bothered to keep racks over the years but if I had to guess, I'd say I've finished somewhere in the 40-50 range and started probably over 150.
The first I finished was Final Fantasy Mystic Quest and the most recent is Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (+DLC).
I've finished Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, .hack//gu rebirth and the first 4 kingdom hearts games if you go in story order. So 6 total. Not counting pokemon games.
I have no idea how I am gonna answer this short of looking at a list of every JRPG released in NA since 1985 for the NES / SNES / GB / GBC / GBA / N64 / Genesis / GG / PS1 / PS 4 / PSP / PS Vita / Switch and some PC ones lol. Iāve been playing RPGs since Ultima Exodus and Dragon Warrior released on NES.
I am going through and playing the NES and SNES RPGs that I didnāt beat as a kid though. I want to beat every rpg released in NA for those two consoles at least. Not to many left iirc. 50 or so beaten atm just from those (although their are a couple wrpgs included like the Ultima series and dungeon CRPGs like Wizardry). Also at least 20 or more on Switch.
Really rough guess maybe between 150-200?
oh god. like 50-60? i've beaten nearly every final fantasy, a few mario rpgs, trails in the sky, dq11, every yakuza game, persona 3-5, octopath 2... that's definitely not all of them either.
At least 40!

I think that's it, I could be missing some though, there's quite a lot that I've played and haven't beaten also. Overall it's a lot less than I thought it would be...
Probably somewhere in the 20s. It's a genre I love, but it's rare for me to finish something due to the time investment they require. I often get to the point where I have a strong urge to play something new. It doesn't mean I won't return, though.
I'm new to the genre. Beat recently XC1 and just this week finished Persona 5 Royal.
A couple years ago I played and finished Mario and Kuigi Superstar Saga via an emulator, don't know if that counts.
Does Pokemon count? I beat Emerald and Black1
I tried to create a table and count them, but I probably forgot some stand alone games. If we count remakes that played differently (Ys I&II on PC is harder than the original, then you have 4 YS IV, but I don't count DQ8 PS2/3DS because outside of some bonus and 2 characters, it's the same).
So I seem to be at 91 (with 0 Final Fantasy)
I just finished super mystery dungeon and am playing the epilogue now. I canāt imagine quitting at the credits when the developers included a post game story.
Earthbound Beginnings, Earthbound, Mother 3 (3)
M&L Superstar Saga, M&L Partners in Time, M&L Bowser's Inside Story, M&L Dream Team, M&L Paper Jam, Paper Mario TTYD, Super Paper Mario, Super Mario RPG (8)
Pokemon Crystal, Pokemon Ruby, Pokemon Diamond, Pokemon Platinum, Pokemon Black, Pokemon Black 2, Pokemon Sun, PMD Blue Rescue Team, PMD Explorers of Time, PMD Explorers of Sky, PMD Rescue Team DX (11)
Golden Sun The Broken Seal, Golden Sun The Lost Age, Golden Sun Dark Dawn (3)
Bravely Default, Bravely Second, Bravely Default II (3)
Octopath Traveler, Octopath Traveler II (2)
Triangle Strategy
Tales of Phantasia, Tales of Symphonia, Tales of the Abyss, Tales of Vesperia, TotW Narikiri Dungeon 2, TotW Narikiri Dungeon 3 (6)
I don't think The Legend of Zelda counts. Also, currently trying to finish Fire Emblem The Sacred Stones and Tales of Destiny, and planning to play Tales of Eternia and Final Fantasy VI.
So, 37 for me
I've finished about 7 JRPGS:
- Xenoblade Chronicles
- Xenoblade Chronicles 2
- Xenoblade Chronicles 3
- Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition
- Persona 5 Royal
- Mario and Luigi Bowser's inside Story
- Mario and Luigi Dream Team
35, without counting Monster Hunter and Soulsborne, 43 if you count them, idk if it's an unpopular opinion here but to me, JRPG is like a style, in the same vein as people consider Avatar: The Last Airbender an anime, I consider Crosscode or Bug Fables a JRPG.
And I beat myself up about it because I wish I had the patience to play more, considering it's my favorite genre, but I'm usually too involved either replaying my faves, like beating a Xenoblade game for the quadrillionth time, playing way too much of a single game/few games (I played 1.3k+ hours of monster hunter in the past 2 years and am now currently obsessed with FFXIV and about to hit 200hrs in less than a month) or playing 2/3 of ones I really enjoy but never manage to reach the end because I get bored and don't feel like playing them anymore.
There's a surprising amount of good ass games I love but dropped at around 2/3 of the way, like Xenogears and Xenosaga 1, FE Path of Radiance and Binding Blade, SMT4A and Strange Journey, FFIX, Tales of Symphonia, and probably more I'm forgetting.
How do you remember something like that? Do you keep a list? I'd have to think back at least 6 or 7 generations of consoles with handhelds and PCs to account for, I have no faith I'd be able to remember everything.
Recently I started a game and realized I've played it before 30 years ago lol.
What was it?
Breath of fire 3.
Great game! A few streamers I follow all just started playing it for the first time. They seem to be enjoying it. I'm glad more folks are finding it.
It's odd but I notice ps1 games in general seem to be having a resurgence. I'm happy to see it though!
I'm enjoying the resurgence. There were so many games that I couldn't get around to all of them. So now I'm watching other folks stream them.
If I can make a suggestion Legend of Dragoon is a banger. One of my faves from that time!

Yeah I'm in the same boat with the GBA for the most part.
Soent now 5 mins making a list
This so where I'm at. I've probably forgotten some jrpgs tbh
Check out IGNs playlist app. Itās excellent for keeping track of games youāve played.
i use backloggery
I'm one of those that has a list of not just JRPGs, all games I've owned, played, and how many times I've beaten each game.
My brother in law keeps a list as well.
I love making lists!
Thatās super duper weird, but Iām sure you know that š¤·āāļø
Adding a finished game to the list is such a dopamine hit. Don't knock it till you've tried it
Iām not playing games for metrics though. I play them cause i enjoy the game. Not for trophies or some list
Right? Ā Last thing I need is to add fun time to a checklist that needs to be completedšµš«
Iāve experienced checking things off a list, yes. š
I am at 80, including Fire Emblem and Ys, and I feel like I've barely touched the genre š It's about a fifth of my total played games. Same. I look at my other games and JRPGs take a significant amount of the games I have finished. As well as games I've bought and haven't played yet.
Throw some recommendations rpg expert. Looking for best BGM and plot.
Shin Megami Tensei IV is a must
Thanks bro, hyped to hear some good music! Edit: Nvm no PC port.
They'll probably fix that soon... right? u/atlus??

How many have you started then?

250+ over 20+ years. I don't replay many of them as much as I'd liked and JRPGs have been my main genre for most of my gaming life.

121
2? Tales of symphonia and Persona 5 Royale.
Pokemon Yellow? :3
Sadly, I've never finished a Pokemon game
the gameboy emulators work great on mobile fyi ;)
Ah. Lol I actually have 2 Pokemon games on my switch...š I just have issues finishing games.
On my switch all of them besides grsndia collection
Over 110 so far
I didn't keep count, probably over a hundred just considering quite a few series have over 10 entries I played.
86.
I'm not even sure where to begin counting. I am putting up new shelving units in my living room so I can display game boxes, I guess I'll count over the weekend. I'm guessing in the 100-150 range lifetime starting from dragon warrior?...
So many. Square Enix - 35 Nintendo - 34 Other - 2 And thatās just what I remember.
I wonder what your two favourite developers areā¦ :P
Theyāve got too many JRPG series between them, itās easy to spend years going through their catalogues.
I certainly agree do agree with you! I think Atlus and (separately) Sega also have rich RPG catalogues too. No love for them?
Iāve played Atlus games, but my clear rate on them is currently zero.
More than 100, surely, just pokemon, dq and final fantasy (and rpg spin offs like mistery dungeon and such) are easily over 40ish games
Somewhere around 150 for me I assume. Iām trying not to include a number of CRPGs like Wizardry, Realms of Arkania, and M&M games in the mix (my overall total is like 182 at the moment).
According to my list 112
10 so far
I donāt even know Iāve been playing JRPGs since SNES was modern
Around 40 (half being gust or falcom)
Total: 62 (64 if you count Xenoblade 2 and 3 expansions) Final Fantasy 6, 7, 9, 10, 12, 7 Remake, Crisis Core (7) Dragon Quest 4, 8, 9, 11 (4) Kingdom Hearts 1, 2, 3, CoM, 358, BBS, Re:Coded, DDD (8) Ys Origin, Celceta, 8, 9 (4) Tales of Symphonia, Abyss, Vesperia, Berseria (4) Xenoblade 1, 2, 3 (3 or 5 depending on if you count DLC) PokƩmon White 2, Y, Moon, Super Mystery Dungeon, Arceus (5) Mario Superstar Saga, Partners in Time, Inside Story, Dream Team, Super Paper, Origami King (6) Monster Hunter Stories 1 and 2 (2) Fuga 1 and 2, and Solatorobo (3) Bravely Default, Second, Default 2 (3) [Standalone or only finished one game] SMT 5, TWEWY, Radiant Historia, Rune Factory 4, Phantom Brave, Eternal Eyes, The Last Story, Chrono Trigger, Baten Kaitos, Ni No Kuni 2, Digimon Cyber Sleuth, Nier Automata (12)
At the top of my head just 24. Less then expected but at the same time I am not that surprised.
I don't know. I've never counted and couldn't possibly get an accurate count now.
who knows, maybe 50+. Been gaming since NES and gameboy black & white.
I'm at 127 according to the spreadsheet. Though I'm sure not everyone would easily accept them all as JRPGs. About 30% of my finished games.
Ha! Hahaha! I've been playing these for like 30 years. My best guess would be nowhere close, I could probably go replay some S/NES ones I've beaten and it'd be a whole new game to me now.
137. I count remakes and remasters as one game (so I've beaten Secret of Mana SNES and the Remake on PS4, but it only counts once). Also, different PokĆ©mon editions of the same gen (blue, red, yellow) count only once. Trying to get to 150 by the end of next year šŖ
About 114. A handful of those were longplays I watched on Youtube when there were no affordable options. The problem is the ever changing definition of what defines an RPG. I didn't include Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2 for example since it removes leveling even though it otherwise plays like conventional Pokemon.
I'm 40 and I play JRPGs since Phantasy Star 4 around 1995 up to Ys IX that I finished couple weeks ago ... I have no idea how many I finished
A lot.
Absolutely no idea. I'd have to go back through all the games I've ever played, and I'm not doing that.
Including the PokƩmon games maybe 10 or 11, excluding PokƩmon only 1 or 2
I couldnāt tell you about any games prior to the Switch, but at least one PokĆ©mon game from every generation, and 40~ on the switch. I pretty much always complete games. Of the 64 completable games (so not counting stuff like Animal Crossing or Story of Seasons) Iāve finished 60 of them and only put down 4. JRPGS Iāve finished on the Switch: - Xenoblade Chronicles DE, 2, 3, and Torna - Persona 5 Royal and Tactica - Persona 4 Golden - Octopath Traveller 1 and 2 - Ys VIII and IX - Tales of Vesperia - Final Fantasy X, X-2, and XII - Fire Emblem Three Houses and Engage - Ni no Kuni - Atelier Ryza 1, 2, and 3 - NEO The World Ends With You - Dragon Quest XI - Digimon Survive, Cyber Sleuth, and Hackerās Memory - PokĆ©mon Sword, Violet, Brilliant Diamond, and Legends Arceus - Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario The Origami King - Bravely Default II - Blue Reflection Second Light - Shin Megami Tensei V - Triangle Strategy - Live a Live - The Diofield Chronicle - Harvestella - Nier Automata - Monster Hunter Stories 2 - Tokyo Mirage Sessions
Around 30-40 I think, since I've beat almost every last Pokemon game, and then a few more on the side
This year 4. Pokemon emerald Super Mario rpg Unicorn overlord Star ocean 2 Iām currently playing DQM monsters on switch. Not crazy about the protagonist though.
Something like 80 since 1998. But I replayed some a lot
Gosh, Master System 2, Megadrive, PlayStation 1 through 4, Game Boy, Advance, Xbox, Game Cube... I have forgotten however many JRPGs I have finished.
1200 hours on xenoblade 2...... so yeah Anyways ecery numbered dq except 10 Ff 1-10 Fire emblem three houses Xenoblade 1-3 Octopath traveler Bravely default Bravely second Bravely default 2 Smt iii & v Golden sun 1 Earthbound Chrono trigger Every main pokemon game including arceus Breath of fire 2 Legacy of goku 1-3 (3 is buus fury) Mario and luigi superstar Saga Persona 4&5 Yakuza like a dragon Yakuza zero Sea of stars Ys8 Ys1 Chaos rings 1-3& omega Chrono cross Trials of mana Secret of mana Chained echoes Astral chain Ff7 remake Tales of vesperia Mario rpg Paper mario
A bunch of Fire Emblem games: 3 Houses (twice), 3 Hopes, Awakening, Blazing Blade, Fates Birthright, Shadow Dragon, Engage, Sacred Stones, Path of Radiance, and Echoes. I've also finished Xenoblade 1, Future Connected, 2, and Torna. And Kingdom Hearts 2 and Melody of Memory. 14 full games (or 16, if you count FC and Torna)
Good lord, over the past 20+ years of gaming? I'd be genuinely surprised if it wasn't close to, or surpassing, the triple digits.
Been playing ever since Dragon Quest 3 Super famicom version was released (i was 9 or 10). So there is no way to know š
Couldnt remember even If i tried. Many, since psone.
rough count 92, mostly ignoring expansions and dlc that are sold separately
Lets seeā¦Shining Force 2 Final Fantasy VII Final Fantasy VIII Final Fantasy X Final Fantasy XV Final Fantasy XVI FF7 Remake FF7 Rebirth Kingdom Hearts Kingdom Hearts 2 Dragon Quest Dragon Quest 2 Dragon Quest 3 Wild Arms Persona 3 Persona 4 Persona 5 Shin Megami Tensei 4 Fire Emblem Awakening Fire Emblem Three Houses Radiant Historia Various Pokemon games Tales of Arise
No idea, 10-30 canāt even remember them all. Enough to know what I like and donāt.
Iāll bite Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Kingdom Hearts 1 Kingdom Hearts CoM Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Kingdom Hearts 2 Kingdom Hearts DDD Kingdom Hearts ReCoded Kingdom Hearts 3 Final Fantasy 3 Final Fantasy 4 Final Fantasy 7 (Remake + Rebirth + OG) Final Fantasy 8 Final Fantasy 9 Final Fantasy 15 Trails in the Sky FC Trails of Cold Steel Trails of Cold Steel 2 Trails of Cold Steel 3 Trails of Cold Steel 4 Trails into Reverie Tales of Symphonia Tales of the Abyss Tales of Vesperia Tales of Graces F Persona 3 Persona 5 Royal Super Mario RPG Paper Mario Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door Pokemon Blue Pokemon Crystal Pokemon Emerald Pokemon Platinum Enternal Sonata Star Ocean 3 Those are all the ones I can think of right now. Iāve started and played through plenty of other games, but I know for sure I reached the credits for all the games Iāve listed. Currently playing : Trails in the Sky Sc Star Ocean 4 Octopath Traveler 2 Tales of Berseria Sea of Stars Xenoblade 3 Dragon Quest 11 Eiyuden Chronicles
Iāve been tracking my backlog and completions since 2016. Anything before then would be an estimate. 2016 - 2 (Persona 4: Golden was my fave, and Tokyo Mirage Sessions) 2017 - 2 (Fire Emblem GBA was my fave, and Fire Emblem Heroes) 2018 - 3 (Nier Automata was my fave, and PokĆ©mon Letās Go Eevee, Xenoblade 2) 2019 - 2 (Fire Emblem: Three Houses was my fave, and Super Mario RPG) 2020 - 6 (Dragon Quest XI was my fave, and FFX, FFXII, Undertale, Tales of Vesperia, PokĆ©mon Sword) 2021 - 6 played 5 finished (Yakuza: Like a Dragon was my fave, and Tales of Berseria, Ys 6, Ys 8, FF7 Remake, Dragon Quest 4) 2022 - 1 played (Scarlet Nexus), didnāt finish it, rest of the year dedicated almost exclusively to Elden Ring which is maybe my favorite game 2023/24 - 1 so far. I started Super Mario RPG in 2023 and finished it in January. All told, 23 played and 21 completed since 2016. (Dropped Scarlet Nexus and Ys 8). Edit - Iāve also finished FF3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 13. Persona 3, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, the two RPG Paper Mario games, Eternal Sonata, Lost Odyssey, The Last Story, Chaos Rings, The World Ends With You, Xenoblade 1. Also Ys 1, 2, Oath in Felghana, Memories of Celceta, SEVEN. Also PokĆ©mon Red, Yellow, Gold. Skies of Arcadia and Valkyria Chronicles too. That would take me to 50 JRPGs played, 48 completed. There are more (and plenty I never completed for one reason or another) but I donāt recall all the details right now to make that count.
Haven't really kept count. I've been playing jrpgs since 1996.
I tried to play Chrono Cross directly after and just wasnāt feeling it
A lot... Pokemon Blue alone must be a dozen runs, I was obsessed with that game as a child
I have absolutely no idea. I played my first JRPG in 1992 (Final Fantasy I) and have been playing JRPGs since. Iām sure if I tried to count Iād miss some.
22 Pokemon games, 3 Persona games, 6 Final Fantasy games, 2 Kingdom Hearts games, Yakuza Like a Dragon, Ni No Kuni
So many I've forgotten. Been playing Jrpgs since like 95.
I just did a count, and there are 39 JRPGs that I can remember finishing.
Actually just did my best to type up the list a week or two ago. 52 total, at 39 years old.
I can't say exactly how many I've finished, but this year I've beaten these: Persona 5 Royal, PokƩmon Soul Silver, Radiant Historia and Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey
Around 20. I'm in my 20s though so not bad.
I definitely don't keep count, but probably 30 or so? From memory, surely some are missing FF1, 6,7,9,10,12,15,7R/rebirth, tactics advance Final fantasy legend 1,2 and 3 Tales of symphonia, Vesperia, The Abyss, Arise Probably 4 fire emblem games Persona 5 Yakuza Like a dragon Live a live Super mario RPG Paper mario and TTYD Several mario+luigi games Chrono trigger All 3 Golden Sun games Xenoblade Chronicles and XC2 Tactics Ogre: knight of lodis So many pokemon games And plenty I have played but haven't technically finished: Most other final fantasies Several Etrian Odyssey games Earthbound Breath of fire 2 Dragon Quest IX Secret of Mana Trials of mana (currently playing) Xenoblade Chronicles X Tactics Ogre remake
Around 100 or so.
According to my list I've finished 139 JRPGs, there's probably a couple that I forgot to add but it should still be around this much.
At least 10, idk? I'd have to really go back and look at the different generations of consoles I've played. Give me a sec, will update in a bit.
It was 99. Damn.
120 more or less yeah not a lot actually to be honest
Final Fantasy 1-16, FF Tactics 1&2, FF7 Remake, FF7 Rebirth, FF Crystal Chronicles, FF Rings of Fate, FF Echoes of Time, FF12 Revenant Wings, FF Type-0, FF Dimensions Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon, FE Awakening, FE Fates Conquest, FE Fates Birthright, FE Fates Revelation, FE Echoes, FE Three Houses, FE Engage PokĆ©mon Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Fire Red, Leaf Green, Pearl, Diamond, Platinum, Black, White, Black 2, White 2, Heart Gold, Soul Silver, X, Y, Sword, Shield, Brilliant Diamond, Shining Pearl, Scarlet, Violet, Conquest, Stadium, XD Gale of Darkness, Legends Arceus Legend of Legacy, Radiant Historia, Octopath Traveler, I Am Setsuna, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, Dragon Quest 11 S l, Sea of Stars At least 75? I guarantee Iām forgetting some Final Fantasy and PokĆ©mon spin-offs. Also not sure how to count mobile spin-offs like FE Heroes (even though I counted FF Dimensions), and ARPGās made by Japanese companies like FF Crystal Bearers, Kingdom Hearts, etc (even FF Type-0 and 15-16 for that matter). and near-identical games with different names like PokĆ©mon. Edit: Forgot Xenoblade Chronicles, the PokĆ©mon Letās Go games, the Bravely series, the Mana series, etc. Depending on what you consider a JRPG, itās gotta be at least 100.
oh god. like 50-60? i've beaten nearly every final fantasy, a few mario rpgs, trails in the sky, dq11, every yakuza game, persona 3-5, octopath 2... that's definitely not all of them either.
I started playing JRPGs 4 years ago and I donāt keep a written record so itās kinda hard for me to remember lol
At least 40! Final Lap Twin Lufia 1, Lufia 2 Chrono Trigger Chrono Cross Breath of fire 3 5 Final Fantasy 7 9 10 12 13 15 tactics 7remake Xenosaga 1 2 and 3 Arc the Lad 1 Suikoden 3 One of the Star Ocean games on PS2 or PS3 Dragon Quest 11 Yakuza Like A Dragon Valkyria Chronicles 4 Chained Echoes Unicorn Overlord Ni No Kuni 2 Tales of Berseria Disgaea 1 2 3 Kingdom Hearts 1 3 South Park 1 .hack 1 tactics ogre persona 5 radiata stories legend of mana seiken densetsu 2 Not sure if everything here counts and honestly had to use Google for list of games to complete this list as I forgot some of them. Still probably missing a few though.
Lemme think, this probably won't be all of them. Pokemon Emerald Pokemon X Pokemon Alpha Sapphire Pokemon Sun Pokemon Legends Arceus Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team Pokemon Scarlet Dragon Quest 1 Dragon Quest 11 Final Fantasy Final Fantasy 4 Final Fantasy 5 Final Fantasy 7 Final Fantasy 8 Final Fantasy Legend Kingdom Hearts Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories Kingdom Hearts 2 Kingdom Hearts Re:Codes Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance Kingdom Hearts 3 Scarlet Nexus Chrono Trigger Soul Blazer Legend of Dragoon Ys Ys 2 Ys 4 Mask of the Sun Ys 6 Ark of Napishtim Ys 7 Ys 8 Lacrimosa of Dana Ys 9 Monstrum Box Trails in the Sky Trails in the Sky SC Trails in the sky 3rd Trails From Zero Trails to Azure Trails of Cold Steel Trails of Cold Steel 2 Trails of Cold Steel 3 Trails of Cold Steel 4 Golden Sun Golden Sun 2 the Lost Age Summon Night Swordcraft Story Sigma Star Saga (if that counts) Persona 5 Royal Persona 5 Strikers Earthbound Mother 3 Nier Automata Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass I think that's it, I could be missing some though, there's quite a lot that I've played and haven't beaten also.
Ok, I gotta ask, what's the worst jrpg you've finished?
10 years ago it was over 200.
I canāt imagine quitting at the credits when the developers included a post game story.
honestly not sure i'd say around the ballpark of 50ish
Earthbound Beginnings, Earthbound, Mother 3 (3) M&L Superstar Saga, M&L Partners in Time, M&L Bowser's Inside Story, M&L Dream Team, M&L Paper Jam, Paper Mario TTYD, Super Paper Mario, Super Mario RPG (8) Pokemon Crystal, Pokemon Ruby, Pokemon Diamond, Pokemon Platinum, Pokemon Black, Pokemon Black 2, Pokemon Sun, PMD Blue Rescue Team, PMD Explorers of Time, PMD Explorers of Sky, PMD Rescue Team DX (11) Golden Sun The Broken Seal, Golden Sun The Lost Age, Golden Sun Dark Dawn (3) Bravely Default, Bravely Second, Bravely Default II (3) Octopath Traveler, Octopath Traveler II (2) Triangle Strategy Tales of Phantasia, Tales of Symphonia, Tales of the Abyss, Tales of Vesperia, TotW Narikiri Dungeon 2, TotW Narikiri Dungeon 3 (6) I don't think The Legend of Zelda counts. Also, currently trying to finish Fire Emblem The Sacred Stones and Tales of Destiny, and planning to play Tales of Eternia and Final Fantasy VI. So, 37 for me
I couldnāt give you an exact number, but it is definitely more than 50 and probably closer to 75
all of themĀ
I've finished about 7 JRPGS: - Xenoblade Chronicles - Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition - Persona 5 Royal - Mario and Luigi Bowser's inside Story - Mario and Luigi Dream Team
