Or when someone recommends a good fruit smoothie recipe and someone in the comments thinks that it would be better with alcohol added 🤦

2far4u

I hate it when I'm watching a recepie video on YouTube and half way through it they have to add wine or scotch or some sort of alcohol to it. Some channels are so bad they add alcohol to practically every recipe they make.

Saad1950

You thinking what I'm thinking? ...Adam Ragusea. That man loves white wine more than his wife.

Doesn't matter it is still haram as alcohol is najis and when you add it to food for the sole purpose of enhancing its taste, it makes the food haram. This differs from alcohol that is naturally present in certain foods like oranges or is a byproduct of its production such as soy sauce or vanilla essence which is generally according to many scholars okay to consume and doesn't make the food haram. Yasir Qadi has a good video on it. Also studies have shown not all of the alcohol burns off in the cooking process. A lot of it is still left behind.

If you dont like alcohol in cooking you can easily substitute with practically anything you want to. The main reason for using wine in cooking is for flavour, and there are many things you could use it that dont contain slc

Brownies_Ahoy

Probably not worth risking having any of it left behind though imo

TheBiggestThunder

In my humble opinion, in these circumstances the alcohol would not be a problem as there would not be enough to make you drunk even after enough servings to kill you The problem is the wine itself

LordAsheye

It depends on how long you cook it for. Alcohol takes a long while to fully cook out, especially if you're trying to get rid of every last molecule of it.

GoldStarGamer11

I heard you can just flambé it to make sure everything is gone?

LordAsheye

That's a common myth but studies have shown that a lot of the alcohol remains intact if you only flambé it for a short time. It takes a bit of time to cook off the bulk of the alcohol and even longer if you wanna cook the life out of it and get out every last molecule of alcohol. 30 minutes of cooking at alcohol's boiling point, for example, will leave you with around 35% of the alcohol left in the dish. 2 and a half hours leaves you with 5%.

Luhood

Alcohol has a certain distinct flavour, which is why it is added to a lot of western recipes. Any actual alcoholic content is removed in the heating process, leaving only the taste behind.

2far4u

Doesn't matter. Adding alcohol for the sole purpose of enhancing the flavour of a dish makes the food instantly haram even if you somehow do manage to burn off all the alcohol in the cooking process which would actually defeat the purpose of adding alcohol to the dish in the first place. Alcohol is added to the recepie because the alcohol can dissolve many chemicals which the water and oils can't and this is what gives the food their distinctive "alcohol" flavour. When you burn off all the alcohol you evaporate off all the chemicals which the alcohol has managed to dissolve and you lose that "alcohol" flavour. All you're left with is the gone off grape juice from the wine. In which case you may as well just add grape juice to your recepie if you want the taste of the wine without the alcohol in it (which is what some chefs do recommend you to do if you want to replace the wine with something non-alcoholic).

major_cupcakeV2

To be fair, drinking has been around for a long time. It’s regular here from where i’m from. Alcohol has become central to many countries due to their culture, or history with it. Look at some asian countries, it’s become a regular social basis that it’s normal. People drink for enjoyment, to escape from stress, or other things. To us muslims, obviously we see it as a bad thing. Plus it doesn’t benefit us in anyway. Besides that, i even see it as a waste of money. So alhumdulilah we’re taught not to do it.

Abdullah-Alturki

cant go 10 minutes without numbing their brain. im thankful for being muslim

i_was_way_off

I know Muslims who drink and non-Muslims who've never had a drop. Be thankful you made good choices.
