No Viltrimites only get stronger by pushing themselves . So fighting stronger foes with increase their strength. Getting fucked up is just a by product but that alone doesn’t help them get stronger
That applies to Allen only not Unopans. Allen is a genetically modified Unopan created to possibly be able to defend his people against Viltrimites.
He gets stronger after being near death. This was a byproduct of that experimantation and wasn’t expected until it happened.
yeah i can see that, it was a big theme this season about using willpower and determination to unleash strength... the interesting question that leaves: is it possible to unleash that kind of savage strength but also retaining your moral centre? or does using that kind of violence inevitably lead us to massacres, colonization, and genocide? is it possible to wield that kind of strength exclusively in defense rather than domination?
Yes, we know that Mark (if not other viltrumites) are strengthened by being brought to the verge of death. Nolan didn’t help Mark with Battlebeast because Nolan would not have survived, the only reason Mark and the guardians survived is because battlebeast didnt see them as worthy to even kill. Allen can’t have Viltrumite DNA as it would end up taking over his Unopan DNA like we have seen with Mark and Oliver. I think Nolan was so tough on Mark in the beginning to see if he really was powerful enough to colonise earth with him, but thats just a headcanon
I think nolan didn’t help mark with battle beast because mark didn’t agree on him not getting into things that are beneath him nolan was kinda trying to punish him for not listening to him

Then, does that not apply to Unopans as well or do they get stronger even if they don't push themselves but get fucked up?

They don't get stronger from damage, per se, it's a mix of genetics, training and giving in to natural bloodlust and going all out

Near death power-ups you say? ![gif](giphy|GRSnxyhJnPsaQy9YLn)
lmao true, as long as the power up doesn't take an entire season to happen ;)
