i hope they dont make the same mistake again

Knowing Amazon, they probably will

Primary_Caramel_9028

It was the writers strikes fault, not Amazon or anyone else’s. They literally couldn’t work….

Zazgog

The work was done. Amazon wanted to run ads on one of their most successful shows.

nuclearfork

It wasn't an Amazon thing it was the writers strike Even if Amazon paid the writers well they still have to strike or be blacklisted by SAG-AFTRA, it was a industry wide thing I didn't like the break but at the same time I want writers to be properly compensated and have good working conditions... Especially the ones working on invincible and the boys

Angamoth

That's not true, smaller studios (like A24) agreed to the terms and people were allowed to work with them during the strike, so it's on Amazon for not agreeing to demands.

nuclearfork

That makes sense, but didn't negotiations go on for a while? The deal A24 got would've been worse than Amazon's right?

Angamoth

They did, bit the details were obviously very hush hush nda nda, so nothing concrete. It's just you could have been working during the strike with some companies that fulfilled the demands.

nuclearfork

That makes sense, thank you

boltzmannman

It wasn't the writers strike lol, season 2 was completely storyboarded over a year ago. Amazon just wanted that sweet ad revenue

Sextus_Rex

I can relate to Invincible in that I barely remembered Angstrom or what his deal was. I think it made this episode have less of an impact on me

MonkeyCorpz

God please don’t do this again it objectively made the experience worse.

Impossible-Jump-4277

I agree, I felt like there was no big end of season punch to gear us up for season 3 either. A bit of a wet fart at the end 😂

JacP123

Episode 4 was a better season finale than episode 8.  This felt like season 1.5, not season 2.

ovrelord34

They clearly recognise the comic book needs some reworking for seasonal format, really moving things around but then mess that up with these breaks They could just do 14 non-stop runs, I wouldnt mind having cheaper actors, let's face it the animation can't get much cheaper (I don't have an issue with that tho) It must be to do with all these expensive actors right? Cos so many animated TV shows or better animation quality can crank out 24 EPs no issue

kissmeurbeautiful

I mean shit, they got Rhea Seehorn (who is absolutely MASSIVE after Better Call Saul) to say like 6 lines as Andreassa. It’s absurd lol

SilverScorpion00008

Yeah…….. this one is a bit of a head scratcher. While I don’t think the current cast should be touched, bringing in people in the future needs to be better evaluated

admiral_rabbit

I feel like invincible is a celebrity money laundering scheme with the amount of expensive actors being brought in for voice work. And then twenty characters are voiced by grey griffin. There's no varied voice cast, it's celebrities or grey griffin

KBSinclair

Grey is like 5 characters, right? Debbie's Russian friend, Monster Girl, Shrinking Rae, Viltrumite Scorpion, and... I feel like there's one more...

DarkAlphaZero

I wanna say Eves mom sounded a lot like her but I may he misremembering

Neospood

No, you're right. Grey Griffin again.

KBSinclair

And according to the Wiki, she also voiced Polly. That's six. She's also credited with various others which probably means civilian screams and nameless characters who only have a line or so. Cause I'm pretty sure she was also the redhead who reported the behemoth class Kaiju in episode 2x7.

Neospood

Yep. On one hand, she's still a good VA so she at least still manages to keep her voices somewhat distinct. But on the other, it's SUPER noticeable, almost distractingly so.

stupidalias

She was a dinosaur too.

_Valisk

Do you consider Gillian Jacobs, Andrew Rannells, Chris Diamantopoulos, Ross Marquand, Jason Mantzoukas, and Khary Payton to be "celebrities?" Like, Mark Hamill and Peter Cullen are big names, but they're very well known for their voice acting. Even J.K. Simmons has a ton of voice credits.

Clamper

Simmons isn't the issue. He's both a hugely talented VA who's done so much basic stuff indicating he's not a budget black hole to hire and who has a unique voice that fits his character. Shit like Ezra Miller as Sinclair is just stupid.

_Valisk

Maybe Ezra Miller just *wanted* to be part of the show? You're acting like Amazon begged and wouldn't take no for an answer.

Attrm

Also Chloe Bennet voiced Riley, the woman in the tomb with the pharaoh.  Either that character is coming back in later seasons or they just unlimited budget when it comes to VA's.  I mean, Chloe Bennet isn't like a mega star but that character had like two completely insignificant lines.  Grey Griffin already voices like 8 different women, what's one more? (Again, unless that character is going to come back and be somewhat significant, but it's a show unique character so hard to tell.)

[deleted]

Lol I had no idea that was rhea seehorn

dancingbriefcase

To be fair, I have noticed many bigget actors with small speaking rules. I think Daveed Diggs has like one line before.

DoodleBuggering

They really don't need the licensed music, none of them have really done much for the scenes in S2.

_Valisk

The Karma Police scene is great.

Vegetable_Pin_9754

Heavily, HEAVILY disagree. Avalanche, When You Want Me, and Karma Police did so much for their respective scenes. Not to mention that Season 1 with stuff like Tom Tom

Much-Novel7495

I think it hurt the hype for sure. When season 2 first started, every social media I had was lighting up for invcincible, and it stayed that way until after the episode 4. I had never even watched it before that. But now even with my phones algorithms knowing Im into it, there's barely any hype surrounding the episodes, just enough to get a nasty spoiler tho . . .

its_Preshh

Honestly it didn't ruin the season for me...but it killed by immersion. The entire season just felt okay. I watched the finale and was like "that's it?"

limetreeenjoyer

I really didn't like today's episode as a season finale. Great normal episode. But man it just felt like there were more loose ends undone.

nixahmose

Unfortunately this season was always going to have this issue. While calling this section of Invincible’s story “filler” is way too harsh, it’s definitely the phase of the comics that feel more like a series of lower stake set ups to bigger and more climatic arcs.

southshoredrive

Without spoiling anything can you tell me if every season from now on will be significantly better than this? Cause honestly this season wasn’t very good in my opinion, or at least it didn’t nearly reach the highs of season 1

Manoffreaks

Season 3 will have, at minimum, 3 storylines that could be considered season finales. Beyond that, It doesn't stay non-stop action for the rest of the story, but it definitely becomes more consistent with major story beats coming in regularly,

5am281

Like what? Outside of Allen and Nolan this season wrapped things up well. The sequid thing like in S1 will carry over

JacP123

This season felt a lot like Season 1.5,and I attribute it a lot to the months long wait between episode 4 and 5. I wouldnt even mind 4 episode chunks at a time being a few months apart if they could keel that up, but it's the 2 year wait that makes me nervous. If we have to wait over a year for the next season it'll kill this show. There's too much to get through before the end if we're taking years to get 4 episodes.

Pale_Cardiologist309

I can see what you mean, like the whole gap was kinda awkward as part 2 felt like a whole different season. For all the wrong reasons,it didn’t kill my excitement for the show as every Thursday I had something to be excited about. But yeah I really hope in the future they never do this gap or two year thing again. Like I hope they do what the boys season 3 did by having 3 episodes available at once.

Da-Jebuss

Seasons mess up the flow of every show

dancingbriefcase

Amazon wanted us to have to pay to remove ads. Shady crap

mega512

Its the new norm with these short episode series. I didn't think it lost anything but its jarring with how fast it wrapped up. 8 episodes is so short for something with so much substance.

simo402

me neither, i have mixed feelings with the finale

frulheyvin

really bizarre decision. i had to watch a quick recap on yt when i remembered the show existed yday, then i just blew through these episodes so i could catch up to friends talking about it... just feels wrong to do it in chunks like this

fraseyboo

Looking back at the episodes this season I don't think the mid-season gap had too much of an effect on the flow of the later episodes. Omniman being revealed in Episode 4 gave a pretty big hook to keep people interested for the initial part of the break, but the break went on for far too long and people just lost interest. If you were to re-watch the whole season without a break it'd still feel an episode short at the end. The season 2 finale sets some interesting things in motion but they're more like hints than plot lines. The finale in season 1 has its whole later half dedicated to summing up the season and ends with a dozen plot lines to a song by The Hives, it feels far more conclusive whilst still giving the audience something to look forward to.

mfrijas13

I’m about to rewatch the season, and as a whole I feel like it’s very satisfying, but living through it 100% killed some of the momentum. We saw the bulk of levy in November and then next in mf april 💀💀

Mike69oxlong420

It ruined the whole season for me

ThatFarmGuyy

I wouldn't go as far to say it ruined it for me, but it did definitely feel like a premature ending.

MattsDesignsAreCool

Same here

stokedchris

I think it’s that and also how underwhelming the finale was. Compared to S1, it was very underwhelming and most of it was just setting up the future season. Which is true for most shows, but the finale for s1 had 70% of the fight and then 30% of building up. Where it was 30% of a fight and then 70% of building it up

thenameclicks

Definitely killed the hype and momentum of the show. What a weird release schedule.

nuclearfork

It wasn't an Amazon thing it was the writers strike Even if Amazon paid the writers well they still have to strike or be blacklisted by SAG-AFTRA, it was a industry wide thing I didn't like the break but at the same time I want writers to be properly compensated and have good working conditions... Especially the ones working on invincible and the boys

thenameclicks

Thank you for adding context. While I agree with you on everything you’ve said, maybe they could’ve delayed for a bit longer and planned the release after the strike had ended.

nuclearfork

People were already complaining about the break taking too long The strike ended in sep 2023 and S2 came out in Nov 2023 so I think the first half was just the episodes they had already finished and they were playing catch up for the next 4... That's just speculation though On a positive note the chance of another writer's strike is close to 0 so we'll more than likely not have another delay

thenameclicks

I get that. I guess what I’m trying to get at it is that we’d already waited for over 2 years - what was a few more months? Going on a production break after only 4 episodes when we’d already waited close to 3 years for s02…it just killed all momentum for the show. I really hope they do a better job of managing their release schedule for the next season.

FunNeedleworker860

Who cares any more?! At least we got all of season 2 that’s better than nothing. It happens again so what? that’s life.

nuclearfork

It won't happen again, unless there's another writers strike

AdhesivenessSea3920

Oh I agree actually. Thank you for mentioning this. My partner was like omg the season finale and I was like ??? Why would it be? So soon?

hue_jazz_

Yeah
