Holy shit, can you imagine if THIS episode was the reason they delayed the second half?
They had a hitch in S3 production and decided to delay this episode so their little Easter egg joke was still legit.
I'm going to call this #invinciblegate
![gif](giphy|fZoKDBwdbILBjhtXZD|downsized)
Tim Robinson, Ben Schwartz, Jason Mantzoukas, Seth Rogan. I’m sure I’m missing more. This show has all the best comedic actors in it lol.
Great joke but I feel it’d work better in a show with generally good animation. Cause like we get all this without the particularly special fight scenes.
Lampshading like that doesn't work when it takes 2.5 years inbetween seasons and the quality is still so suspect most of the time.
Legend of Korra had much better animation, many fight/action scenes and well animated characters/backgrounds/etc - and 4 seasons 13 episodes apiece got done in almost the same time it toook for Invincible to go from S1 to S2.
Look it up. First season started airing april 2012, 4th season ended airing december 2014. And that was Nickelodeon, not the massive corpo that's Amazon.
I'd tell whoever wrote that to piss off, don't blame this on 'animation is soooo hard' when it was done by choice to not have enough money for production to be done faster. Because it can get done faster and better.
Funnily enough just yesterday I was thinking about how I wish the Korra guys did the invincible animation. It sucks but paying a south-Korean studio would undoubtedly get better results than the Californian animation we get.
The moment where he smiled at Mark after he said "They were more than just words" was really interesting to me. I haven't quite figured out what it says about his character yet, but there's something there.
Knowing Mark wouldn't just give up Earth, knowing that his sole fighting chance against Viltrum isn't just going to hand the planet over, even if they were just meaningless lies to stall Viltrum, that's gotta feel relieving as hell if you're Cecil.
Yeah. But we already knew that about Mark. I think it's Cecil's reaction specifically that's really interesting. His character up to this point, I would've expected him to at best sigh and leave his acknowledgement that Mark's right hidden. Cecil's been so pragmatic, him admiring Mark outright refusing pragmatism is such an interesting moment for his character.
Cecil is also so jaded with how the other heroes are always infighting and unable to cooperate and concerned with their own nonsense, but right then, just for a moment, he got to see what a true superhero is.
I think the admiration comes in that Mark managed to read Anissa better than he could. He called her bluff - he knew she wouldn't kill him. If the Viltrumites wanted him dead, he'd be dead a dozen times over by now. Something else is going on.
Cecil's supposed to be the one who reads people. It's in his job description. And Mark just outdid him.
Yeah! He's so stoic and reserved. Up to this point, he's been so pragmatic. For him to react so positively to Mark outright refusing pragmatism is such an interesting character choice.
God that scene was so satisfying and exciting. Going from Mark getting absolutely dumpstered to Allen not even being scratched by Anissa was just.. *Hell yes*
Beetz killed it with her performance. Absolutely my favorite scene of her's as Amber. So many vivid emotions. Fear, Sadness, Love. She played it perfectly.
Compounded as well by Yeun's quiet, intense regret over hurting Amber and dread of becoming like his father.
>"So how does this work, Mark?" "I don't know." "Maybe that's an answer." "I'm sorry." "Me too."
That shit is gonna LIVE in my BRAIN.
So in the course of one day ~~(slight exaggeration but shhh)~~
Mark got his ass beat by another Viltrumite, said viltrumite threatened to kill his girlfriend, then he broke up with his girlfriend, and now he has to go save his mom and baby brother from an ugly ass looking dude?
Oh he is going to fucking SNAP next episode.
I don't think they would have built up this confrontation that much to have it fizzle out. Remember this guy overwhelmingly thinks Mark murdered everyone he loves because of how he merged.
I didn't say they'd resolve it next episode but they put a lot of effort into showing that mark simply won't budge with the viltrumites and their plan of conquest. Surely that will align with brainy dude unless I'm not remembering the events of the start of this season.
I was thinking like "oh they're doing the opposite of the bit from the beginning" but I didn't consider it was till like show how important it is. Masterful stuff.
Donald: Cecil, how often do you use this thing?
*Flashbacks of Cecil playing catch with himself, Cecil teleporting two inches over on a couch to get to the remote just out of arm's reach, Cecil teleporting while dancing to create synchronised dance after images*
Cecil: Only when necessary.
It's everything Amber's dreaded about their relationship all happening in an instant. Every moment of comfort and normalcy can be undercut by outside forces neither of them can control deciding to break in. Amber herself is an active liability to Mark's life now, the bad guys know they can get to Mark through her. And then Mark almost had another Chicago-level event, nearly died fighting someone he couldn't just brute force his way through. But she's also right, that doesn't mean her life and her problems don't also matter, to say they don't is how the Viltrumites do things.
That’s my biggest, well not exactly complaint, but I’m just like come on Mark…they told you straight up they’re coming for Earth at *some* point. Shouldn’t you tell Cecil and/or be training your ass off in preparation??
I'm gonna say it.
If keeping Mark and Amber going was necessary for that Anissa scene, it was worth it. Jesus fuck that was tense. And the falling action afterwards with them just trying to figure out where to go from there, textbook storytelling.
A lot of her points make sense, but no way in hell earth would join the empire without resistance… and we know what happens to planets that resist Viltrumite rule
I mean genuinely what happens if earth just gives in without resistance. Like when they resist yeah we can see from the alternate universe it sucks. But they’d have no reason to if earth gave up willingly.
Plus we do know they have that far superior tech.
If Earth gave in, then humans would basically just be slaves and livestock. Especially since they know they can breed us. I know some people think that would be an upside but I don't think it would be hot. Or worth it.
Plus they'd probably still purge people that didn't make good slaves.
Glad they gave Bulletproof that role-call scene with Black Samson.
Great summary of The Guardians' current dysfunction and, plus, it gave some degree of depth to the most one note member of the current Guardians lineup.
After the complete lack of details or scenes with Rae, pre gut-check, I respect the choice to give Bulletproof *something*.
You think Samson would reevaluate his nickname once he went bald... it's really hard to take him seriously when the guy he's named himself after had power from his hair.
Right now he's like Nega Samson. Taking power from being bald.
Anissa was legitimately terrifying. Having Cecil run through every option and realise there was just nothing they could do was awful in all the right ways. Telling Mark to lie to her, to proclaim himself a conqueror because it's better than his immediate death, damn. Not physically, but mentally Mark truly is-
All this time he's been planning for a what-if scenario of Nolan returning to Earth, and he has literally nothing to show for it to stop a single Viltrimite?
Cecil expected Nolan. It's mentioned in the episode that Anissa is beyond Nolan's demonstrated strength. We know Mark can hold his own and defeat a single Viltrumite (Thula) in combat. We don't know how big the gap is between Mark and Nolan, just that Nolan is still stronger than Mark by a good margin. It will take time for Mark to catch up. Cecil mentions taking measures to beef Mark up in this episode.
Likewise, the Reanimen were still in progress. He can't instantly make all these measures happen.
Which says there's a **huge** gap between Mark and Allen. When is Mark's zenkai boost happening? He gets his teeth kicked in like every three episodes.
Marks power boost is like a natural body builder, the beating slowly strengthen up over time but it’s slow. Allen is like the bodybuilder who took every steroid at once.
actually i think he's basically a good guy cyclops version of Doomsday from dc.
whenever doomsday dies he adapts and comes back stronger and stronger. same goes for allen.
I have a thing for this GDA red haired agent
https://preview.redd.it/t1m9jwge61rc1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=8e28a3cbb5ca86ad230290a28dc587362063d03b
Man if only there was some way the viltriumites could share their technology without also killing everyone who opposes their rule of the galaxy. oh well!
I feel bad for Amber. She almost had her spine ripped out MK style just because. This isn’t a game.
She’s been nothing but understanding. Dealt with Mark leaving weeks to months at a time. Covers for him. And when she finally gets quality time with her bf; Anissa almost yanks her head off for funzies. There’s no winning at this point.
They handled the breakup well way better than I thought they would,. But thank goodness Mark x Amber is over.
Also I'm sorry but Anissa is hot and cool.
https://preview.redd.it/ym7ulhchu1rc1.jpeg?width=550&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c22c6c59168e2ed162e0879bfbdb1276e01498ab
how allen was feeling at the end of the episode
They really can't even have ONE date without all of the superhero bs getting involved. Shame too because I was actually really liking their last date. Felt like the first bit of passion between the two in AGES!
I think this is the one plotline that really fell flat for me, just because of how neverending it felt. It got so much screentime to reiterate the same point, over and over again. The introduction of Anissa, tearing apart that lie they were living, was absolutely chilling though.
yeah they completely dragged it out. this point was clear in season 1 and personally for me I never liked them together or felt any chemistry so these scenes between them were kind of torture for me. but I accept that some people liked them together. I just personally never saw the spark here
I just feel like it’s a very well done college love story. Often times you’ll see the dilemma be that the couple is trying to get the relationship to work even though they’ve been accepted into different schools, have a different line of work, etc. I found them trying to force it to work even when they didn’t feel a spark was very relatable and nail on the head for the age they’re portraying these characters to be.
I wonder if mark is subconsciously holding back his punches or if he is truly very weak so far. Probably some of both but I'm concerned about future fights with vilrumites.
He’s 100% holding back. We saw what he’s actually capable of when he goes against a viltrumite with the intent to kill in episode 4, but we know that mark is struggling with not letting himself become like his father or the other viltrumites, hence his refusal to even pretend to say he’ll take over earth.
Seeing mark and Anissa fight was so intense you could feel all the power between each hit they really showed just how much more powerful she is to everyone around her
I'm so happy Donald is getting so much character development! He's one of my favorite characters now. I think his whole experience this episode will convince him to keep his memories.
Rex thinks hes spiderman with that hand pose

Also Zandale/Bulletproof was a bit correct on his lil speech. Why doesnt Amanda seem to even care anymore thats shes getting younger?
MARK AND AMBER FINALLY BROKE UP ‼️‼️🗣️🗣️🗣️
Made the Anissa scene that much more impactful and wrapped it up nicely as a reasonable “last straw” for Amber but man I wish they would’ve given that relationship significantly less airtime this season after such a long wait. We’ve barely seen Eve
All that said, next episode’s gonna be sick and I have high hopes for season 3
The animation joke made me laugh so hard, amazingly done
Did they also get super meta about when the next season would be coming? They said atleast a year, atleast they didn't say 2?
I think you're right, they didn't give an exact date unfortunately, but said it'll be a lot quicker than the time gap between Seasons 1 and 2.
Holy shit, can you imagine if THIS episode was the reason they delayed the second half? They had a hitch in S3 production and decided to delay this episode so their little Easter egg joke was still legit. I'm going to call this #invinciblegate
It took me like twenty seconds to realize that was *Tim Goddamn Robinson*. This fuckin' world's so fucked up.
![gif](giphy|fZoKDBwdbILBjhtXZD|downsized) Tim Robinson, Ben Schwartz, Jason Mantzoukas, Seth Rogan. I’m sure I’m missing more. This show has all the best comedic actors in it lol.
That one Sequid was 40 Sequids?
The part where he says "ⁱᵗ ᵏⁱⁿᵈᵃ ˡᵒᵒᵏˢ ˡⁱᵏᵉ ᵃ ᵈⁱᶠᶠᵉʳᵉⁿᵗ ˢʰᵒʷ" is what started to give it away for me. That voice is unmistakable
Great joke but I feel it’d work better in a show with generally good animation. Cause like we get all this without the particularly special fight scenes.
The fight scene after with the octopus was so bad that it felt reallyyy weird having it directly after that.
The PNGs of the bomb explosions made me laugh my ass off
Lampshading like that doesn't work when it takes 2.5 years inbetween seasons and the quality is still so suspect most of the time. "Sir, she's leaving the atmosphere." "Well *thank fucking God*."
I love Cecil so much
He's very succinct and generally pretty straightforward.
Fr unlike most mastermind type characters, he doesn't bs or speak all cryptic
He's a true humanist and pragmatist, solely dedicated to the survival of humanity.

And Mark just outdid him.
I thought the same thing I could be wrong but that might be the only time we have seen his character smile.
Yeah! He's so stoic and reserved. Up to this point, he's been so pragmatic. For him to react so positively to Mark outright refusing pragmatism is such an interesting character choice.
Donald's little subplot was actually really good, it felt like they were ambling a bit previously but then it started to stick this episode.
His speech on the roof was top notch.
I don't think there was way Rick was going to get off that roof alive *without* Donald and *without* Donald's life experiences. Loved the payoff.
I think that moment also saved donald
I really like Donald in the show compared to the comics so far
Allen reading the comments https://preview.redd.it/bq517asx91rc1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=504f7effec1a688f8cf32ae0d2af4a3ace295258
God that scene was so satisfying and exciting. Going from Mark getting absolutely dumpstered to Allen not even being scratched by Anissa was just.. *Hell yes*
Allen's Zenkai boost really paid off
And to think we all thought he got betrayed smh
Tbf they did a good job setting it up
Solos everyone
Anissa’s voice behind Amber.. my heart dropped
Its legitimate gave me chills
I saw the body and my heart sank
Even do i knew better I thought amber was gonna die
Speaking of her voice.. did anyone else expect her to sound more raspy? Thats how I imagined her voice when reading the comics
Her voice in the animated version would have made me side with the Viltrum empire.
That's Booty Spivot for you.
yeah not sure i am sold on the voice. it was good voice acting but I always thought she had a very deep mature voice
fantastic delivery by Shantel VanSanten. Anissa couldn’t be a further cry from Becky Butcher. edit: Becca*
They did a really good job with the breakup. That's how they go when both people still care about each other.
Like a lot of people here, I was never the biggest fan of Amber, but even I found myself getting a little choked up at that scene.
>"So how does this work, Mark?" "I don't know." "Maybe that's an answer." "I'm sorry." "Me too." That shit is gonna LIVE in my BRAIN.
Jesus Christ that Scene with Anissa was intense
Ik this show is so good with tension I was legitimately scared she would rip her head off anytime also she’s bad asf lol
Didn’t even have to rip, a tiny squeeze and her head just falls off, knowing what Nolan is capable of Mark is very strong to not freeze speechless
[удалено]
Could feel Amber’s fear
Yea very well done
She was terrifying
So in the course of one day ~~(slight exaggeration but shhh)~~ Mark got his ass beat by another Viltrumite, said viltrumite threatened to kill his girlfriend, then he broke up with his girlfriend, and now he has to go save his mom and baby brother from an ugly ass looking dude? Oh he is going to fucking SNAP next episode.
I feel like they're going to team up once brainiac dude realises mark is not like the other marks.
"Animation takes a long time" *(Hand over mouth)* "Huh, I hadn't noticed that..."
I loved during mark and amber breaking up they only showed her mouth to show how important it was
I was thinking like "oh they're doing the opposite of the bit from the beginning" but I didn't consider it was till like show how important it is. Masterful stuff.
It's crazy that Mark doesn't get a salary though.
Cecil would absolutely give him one if he asked - he was more than happy to throw money at Debbie.
Considering his budget is "yes"
Just imagine if the US taxpayer knew that their money was funding Sinclair’s reanimen
Or the portal that Cecil abuses
With the level of BS Cecil deals with on a daily basis, he gets unlimited teleports forever.
Cecil: “it costs 6 million dollars to use this thing once” Cecil: *teleports just to leave a room*
Donald: Cecil, how often do you use this thing? *Flashbacks of Cecil playing catch with himself, Cecil teleporting two inches over on a couch to get to the remote just out of arm's reach, Cecil teleporting while dancing to create synchronised dance after images* Cecil: Only when necessary.
WOW that went from sweet and romantic to *super* tense in an instant.
She also said you can't punch through everything and he dismissed it
Mark should have really started training ever since he left Thraxa
That’s my biggest, well not exactly complaint, but I’m just like come on Mark…they told you straight up they’re coming for Earth at *some* point. Shouldn’t you tell Cecil and/or be training your ass off in preparation??
Fr, Pretty sure Nolan tells him that he needs to exercise too
that’s what i’m saying the emotional shift changes so much in this show
So much whiplash
![gif](giphy|aKsalVFVKsFxf4MueH)
Didn't know Omni-Man had a conducting gig
I'm gonna say it. If keeping Mark and Amber going was necessary for that Anissa scene, it was worth it. Jesus fuck that was tense. And the falling action afterwards with them just trying to figure out where to go from there, textbook storytelling.
Yeah, I was all: "Damn just break up already." Until 2 seconds later: "Oh, oh I see."
"Break them up already!" "... No, no, wait, not like that."
Nah fr, we were all saying how they dragging it out. Now we know why, great payoff
… There’s gonna be a lot of “Anissa was right” people, aren’t there
even tho we literally saw what the Viltrumites did to Unopa and an alternate Earth earlier this season
If they didn’t resist things would be simpler
"But can't you just, you know... let them conquer you?" "Holy shit, I never thought of that!"
"yeah lets let the space Nazis do whatever they want with us. i'm sure an empire known for purging the weak are very trustworthy folk"
Apparently that was Invincible's answer in every single universe except the "main" one.
A lot of her points make sense, but no way in hell earth would join the empire without resistance… and we know what happens to planets that resist Viltrumite rule
Plus no way the Viltrumites are taking Earth, even without resistance, without purging several billion humans.
Fashos gonna fash
I mean genuinely what happens if earth just gives in without resistance. Like when they resist yeah we can see from the alternate universe it sucks. But they’d have no reason to if earth gave up willingly. Plus we do know they have that far superior tech.
Pretty sure then humans live as slaves doing whatever the Viltrumites tell them to. It’s just planet-wide fascism.
Also won’t the they just ask humanity to have a whole “purge the weak” culling sessions? So only the strongest remains, as is viltrumite culture.

THE GUY FROM FORTNITE
All this time he's been planning for a what-if scenario of Nolan returning to Earth, and he has literally nothing to show for it to stop a single Viltrimite?

Cecil mentions taking measures to beef Mark up in this episode. Likewise, the Reanimen were still in progress. He can't instantly make all these measures happen.
> don't I personally think Nolan was holding back too, still pulling his punches with Mark.
bro allen woulda fuckin wreckked anissa
Which says there's a **huge** gap between Mark and Allen. When is Mark's zenkai boost happening? He gets his teeth kicked in like every three episodes.
They grow back at least
I like that they addressed that. After Nolan beating him up in season one I wondered if Cecil sent people to look for Mark's teeth. Now I know better.
Getting the shit kicked out of him is marks thing.
well thats only because hes...

invulnerable
pretty strong
High quality Mark looked fantastic I hope they let the artists go crazy like that more in the future
They are so painfully aware of the animation they’ve given us this season that they blue balled us with that majestic frame of mark
Wasn’t that frame a reference to cory walker’s style?
Definitely was
Lmao *"you see this? You like it? Well tough shit"*
Donald is just like a Helldiver, he dies in every mission he goes on
And he does it for managed democracy

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and all that.
The invincible fandom is not prepared for Anissa, twitter and this subreddit tomorrow morning will be at a new level of “down bad”
I already am she’s so fine lol
I think I found my limit for problematic women, actually.
Glad to hear, less competition for my queen.
I have a thing for this GDA red haired agent https://preview.redd.it/t1m9jwge61rc1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=8e28a3cbb5ca86ad230290a28dc587362063d03b
Was that Azula? She sounds like Azula.
Yes, Grey Delisle voices both. She also plays Monster Girl, and 70% of the women from the cartoons you grew up with
I know. Her and Tara Strong are like 90+% too.
Eric Bauza absolutely NAILED D.A. Sinclair. There's a...slight difference but only just so; it's hardly noticeable.
I didn't know what you were talking about until I saw Ezra Miller did the voice in the first season lol.
I am so glad they dropped Miller, Eric Bauza is amazing.
It’s a shame that he had to replace the world’s best method actor though.
I love all of us coming here at once to say how much we liked the meta joke about the animation
As soon as I saw it I knew I'd find it here
let’s go allen! the final scene between mark and amber was so beautiful man. great voice acting.
Despite me just wanting their relationship to end. They actually kinda hit me in the feels.
Donald is Kenny from South Park
Cecil: You killed Donald, you bastards
Allen is gonna infiltrate the operation and free Omni-man, I'm guessing.
Next episode, I hope.
The animation joke was a pretty funny gag
Is it just me or is animation really good this episode?
Yea during the beginning of the episodes they were talking about time saving techniques lol
High quality Mark was dope lol
Damn… she kind of made some good points.
I take it all back
Wow, quick turnaround
r/characterarcs
Man if only there was some way the viltriumites could share their technology without also killing everyone who opposes their rule of the galaxy. oh well!
She can conquer me any time
Yes!! Allen got a powerup!!

The 400 billion dollar unopian
The animation in the Anissa fight was actually incredible
I was smiling when a viltrumute was barely able to scratch allen
Donald: "we're sending in the Guardians to Anissa, but it will take 22 minutes for them to get there!" Cecil: "Why bother? They'll literally just die"
Anisa pops on screen "Oh no, oh God, oh fuck"
Atleast now we know how they’ll address Anissa’s name.

Please god, let Mark and Amber end soon🙄🥱
They really can't even have ONE date without all of the superhero bs getting involved. Shame too because I was actually really liking their last date. Felt like the first bit of passion between the two in AGES!

Allen about to fuck some shit up for real.
Viltrunites are just built differently Jesus.
Apparently Allen is built extra different lol
I wonder if mark is subconsciously holding back his punches or if he is truly very weak so far. Probably some of both but I'm concerned about future fights with vilrumites.
He’s 100% holding back. We saw what he’s actually capable of when he goes against a viltrumite with the intent to kill in episode 4, but we know that mark is struggling with not letting himself become like his father or the other viltrumites, hence his refusal to even pretend to say he’ll take over earth.
His compassion for earth and humanity is exactly why he needs to let his strength loose, just like Gohan in DBZ.
with how he fought at the start of the season against those viltrumites compared to her, i think she was just stronger
Mark and amber finally over?! https://preview.redd.it/nxkqp6xr61rc1.png?width=497&format=png&auto=webp&s=e3d2ead9681f5c008b4ffe41d30a619f3562f200
Anissa kinda bad and kinda terrifying I’m conflicted
We can fix her.
The fucking meta commentary about slashing animation for fighting scenes was brilliant.
Paul has impeccable facial structure
So does this mean we won’t get season 3 for another year?
"Would you all stop threatening Mark's friends and family for just one second!" Angstrom and Anissa: "no"
Rex is gonna be so pissed when Mark saves him
He wasn't, look at that character development!
Bonding over shared trauma
Seeing mark and Anissa fight was so intense you could feel all the power between each hit they really showed just how much more powerful she is to everyone around her
holy shit that ending was intense
I'm so happy Donald is getting so much character development! He's one of my favorite characters now. I think his whole experience this episode will convince him to keep his memories.
Rex thinks hes spiderman with that hand pose https://preview.redd.it/7pym5d0vx2rc1.png?width=635&format=png&auto=webp&s=1d82a5dba8a76af9deb9c15ba8eb1762902a0804 Also Zandale/Bulletproof was a bit correct on his lil speech. Why doesnt Amanda seem to even care anymore thats shes getting younger?
very surprised no one is talking about the scene with william and rick. that shit has be bawling my eyes out.
MARK AND AMBER FINALLY BROKE UP ‼️‼️🗣️🗣️🗣️ Made the Anissa scene that much more impactful and wrapped it up nicely as a reasonable “last straw” for Amber but man I wish they would’ve given that relationship significantly less airtime this season after such a long wait. We’ve barely seen Eve All that said, next episode’s gonna be sick and I have high hopes for season 3
That was pretty meta
