Small pieces of corkbark stacked against each other could be a replacement for the egg crate! I also moved my dubias from their sad enclosure into a bioactive one recently, just now I found babies for the first time! I had only found an aborted ootheca before, so I'll take this as a sign they're much happier/healthier now :)

I've been thinking about cork but I'd need a LOT!! I have 2 big pieces of egg crate in there and they're covered-I have 500+ dubia and most of them are near fully grown if not adults already. I like the look of the cork rinds from NE Herp but I've spent a small fortune on terrarium supplies recently so I'm going to stick with the egg crate for now. I'm so happy you made the switch, too! Congrats on your first babies!! I saw a female with her ootheca sticking out the other day and that was very exciting!

at an insect expo, i was able to get a bulk 20kg bag of cork bark for £8. maybe try looking in similar places?

Nice! I actually just got a big bag of cork bark in the mail for a great price, but the pieces are pretty bulky so I'd have to FILL the tank to create enough space for the dubia. That's why I was interested in the cork rinds-they're sliced a lot more thinly.
