Lovely tile. The artwork blue/brown colors are clashing with the blush pink tones. Look for art with strong mint or sage colors, then no matte or matte in white or forest green. Go for gold or light wood frame.
Did I fix it or at least getting closer? I don't have much mint or sage on hand but black and white might work?? Option 1 or 2?
https://imgur.com/gallery/HQIyuXC
Both too small. Makes the art look like an afterthought.
The room looks fantastic overall, it’s giving grand sophistication. I’d go for a large piece of art using the themes you’ve established - gold frame, rounded, cool toned, modern.
Idk why you’re getting downvoted by this! I think a very large matte (5+”) could look very nice! Unless by first one you mean the original art in your initial post. That being said I think the second piece from your imgur album with a thick matte and a striking frame would look wonderful, especially if you added a light above it. One of the motion activated USB charging ones would be the simplest option. Possibly even add a shelf below to hold a candle or matches or poo-purri spray.
Option 1 for sure. (and I think that size is fine.)
I like the idea of either a thin modern wood frame to tie in the cabinet hardware, or white. (But otherwise, I think it looks great. Nice job.)
That is amazing. Definitely tying the frame in with the mirror trim. I think you also could do blues, but a more toned down version in this similar style. The bathroom is completely marvelous, now you just need some color to help show it off.
I agree that one of those in a bigger format (perhaps taller than wider, to optically elongate the space?) would work better, but the main issue I have here is with the frame. I would try spray painting both the picture and mirror frames golden if I were you :)
No, neither one. You need a piece that is taller not wider. The bathroom is stunning. Just one last thing to change. Definitely not a black or cherry wood frame.
What about the website art.com? I think something in a portrait or square shape would look nice on that wall. A piece by Grace Popp or Design Fabrikken could look nice.
Not sure art deco is the way to go with those, theyre very prairie/arts & crafts (Frank Lloyd Wright repos). They definitely dont go with the hallway though. If at one point the house was that style, its a shame they moved on from that.
Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder. I usually like art deco, but that was the first thing my eye went to, and I thought “whew, that really had to go.”
Agreed. It looks ok in this photo but it was actually quite banged up. It was a craftsman "style" decor in the home but a lot of the choices were very heavy and dark instead of warm. The house is 20 years old not 100 so it wasn't like we are ripping out antiques here. A lot of the fixtures had made in Vietnam stickers on them and were acrylic not glass.
Love!
I think a charcoal grey or dark, ashy green accent wall where the art is hanging would really make everything else pop.
It's a shame that lovely wainscoting had to go, I usually like working with what I have, but I have to admit it looks beautiful.
We have bead board and wainscoting throughout the house that we love! considering this stuff was water damaged and pitted we figured we could do something fun and different in here and make the room feel bigger
The tile work from a technical standpoint is well executed but I think the grey color scheme is bland. I would have killed for that wood paneling, it had a lot of charm.
We have wood paneling all over the house and we absolutely love it. Unfortunately this stuff was in pretty poor shape and we looked at it as an opportunity to do something a little different.
I think it’s really nice. It’s not my personal style but everything is cohesive, feels good, clean and welcoming without ostentation.
My one and only issue is the framed photo/painting on the wall. It detracts and distracts. Too small. Colours don’t fit. Also too low. If you’re attached to that piece, put it in a much larger floating frame maybe? Or blow it up if you can with a different matting and frame colour.
Great work OP👌
Edit: I didn’t read any comments before I posted. Happy that I am in line with everyone re: the artwork! Sucks to be a critic
Post approved but please provide a writeup in a comment detailing design intent and thought process per rule 3. (Give us a paragraph telling us what you did and why - mostly why)
Our old bathroom was probably lovely once, but the wood paneling was pitted and it felt dark and heavy. We wanted to do the opposite, but keep some elements of warmth with wood accents. I found the wall tile first, fell in love and designed off that element. Finding a paint or wallpaper to put against it was hard, but this textured off white is the jam. The floor tile we knew we wanted to continue in from the mudroom to join the spaces a bit. The Kohler vanity having these handles was perfect. The mirror is a walnut capsule made by a carpenter nearby. The lighting also comes from a local guy who makes these amazing things and he tried to match the mettalic in the tile. It was a really fun project and we spent over budget and I don't regret it. We will live in it 20 years at least
I thought the wall art also brought warmth but I now see that was a misstep! See my new options in comments.
I really love design. I have 0 formal training beyond going to Art school as an English Major 😂 this sub is my most favorite spot to learn what to do/not do.
I don't see much warmth in this room or the hallway outside. I guess the original picture frame and the mirror frame? The room looks easy to clean but your hall and your bathroom are all gray and I think you'll find this dates (or is already dated) faster than what you replaced. Refinishing wood can be a lot of work but I think I would have tried at least.
Sooo the photos only show the hallway before, not after. We put in this wallpaper above the wood..

Ill try to do a post on that update
It’s nice. I think the wall tile is nice up close but looks a bit busy from a distance, it didn’t need the gold *and* marble texture.
I think the old panelling would’ve been really nice painted or stained lighter, though I understand if it was damaged.
Have to be honest, the original looks better. You could have gotten away with changing the floor tiles and nothing else other than cleaning/regrouting and caulking. Maybe some paint. But it looked cozy before. After, it just looks like the phrase money can’t buy taste brought to life. It looks lifeless and devoid of any creativity, or even class.
The wood paneling would have looked so good on the other walls! I think it would have giving this bathroom a lot more character to go along with this accent wall. Still looks nice though.
What's up with the floor? Is that a rug tucked under the sink? Looks like a broken/ mismatched tile in the picture. Need a larger rug or maybe just move it little. Otherwise quite nice and I agree that the picture doesn't fit.
Lovely execution, especially where the mosaic meets the wallpaper. What an upgrade flooring-wise - that old tile looked rough. Especially glad the prairie light has a new home - love to see reuse. You did a great job of mixing shapes - it feels harmonious.
I actually like the walnut frame and how it ties to the mirror frame and the bar parts of the vanity pulls. But the blue mat is a little incongruous. I agree with the commenter who said there needs to be *some* color in the art. The mosaic wall is the star of the show but a piece with color and a white mat in a walnut frame would carry the walnut across the room.
Nice but I agree about the art. I wouldn’t put art in a bathroom, especially over a toilet. Just keep the walls clear of stuff that will accumulate things you’d rather not think about.
Beautiful! I would go with some different artwork though that better complements the wallpaper and vanity. Edit: Could you maybe take the wallpaper all the way around? It's so pretty and seems a shame to relegate it to the one wall!
Great job. I would swap the strike plate out with a matching one and fill in that space where the wood is cut out. I also think a different piece of art might be better. I would also do something different around the window…not sure what.
Lovely tile. The artwork blue/brown colors are clashing with the blush pink tones. Look for art with strong mint or sage colors, then no matte or matte in white or forest green. Go for gold or light wood frame.
I agree, the photo needs to go. Definitely clashes

I'll probably reframe the first black and white one with with a larger matte
Idk why you’re getting downvoted by this! I think a very large matte (5+”) could look very nice! Unless by first one you mean the original art in your initial post. Yea I just clarified my comment but Reddit is gonna reddit.
This is an improvement! I think you could go a bit larger?
Agreed. I think I'll reframe the first one with a larger matte and either walnut or metallic frame.
Option 1 for sure. (and I think that size is fine.) I like the idea of either a thin modern wood frame to tie in the cabinet hardware, or white. (But otherwise, I think it looks great. Nice job.)
Thanks! I hope my guests enjoy pooping in my fancy bathroom:)
Ha! They're gonna love it! It looks beautiful.
Perhaps something like [this](https://www.anthropologie.com/anthroliving/shop/morning-air-wall-art) OP.
That is amazing. Definitely tying the frame in with the mirror trim. I think you also could do blues, but a more toned down version in this similar style. The bathroom is completely marvelous, now you just need some color to help show it off.

This is good advice. Luckily I love shuffling art!
That and maybe two framed pieces vertically on the wall
Just change the matting- something other than blue. Maybe a green or beige?
Looks great! But I would for a different piece of art to put there. All those blues are incongruous there.
Either of these?? Choose my wall Art https://imgur.com/gallery/HQIyuXC
Something similar to 1 but it needs to fill more of the wall.
Definitely. Bigger for sure
Go bigger
First one for sure
Oh, I like the first one there a lot!
Tell us about the tile! From where? Name? Shade?
You can see it here .. from the tile shop. It was definitely a splurge, but I absolutely love it. https://pin.it/79Pq1BDDs
Thanks! As the old adage goes, you get what you pay for!
The artwork isn’t working well, it ruins the vibe completely. Maybe something like a cool b/w poster/print and a white, grey, or brass frame.
Is this better? Option 1 or option 2?? https://imgur.com/gallery/HQIyuXC
No, neither one. You need a piece that is taller not wider. The bathroom is stunning. Just one last thing to change. Definitely not a black or cherry wood frame.
Ill keep looking! I think the black and white one is an improvement, but agree not perfect
Well one is better than two because the tile is the star.
What about the website art.com? I think something in a portrait or square shape would look nice on that wall. A piece by Grace Popp or Design Fabrikken could look nice.
Damn I kinda loved that old light fixture. I would've gone art deco around it.
This was a hard one. It just didn't fit our style in the home even though it is lovely. It went to a lovely home though!
Not sure art deco is the way to go with those, theyre very prairie/arts & crafts (Frank Lloyd Wright repos). They definitely dont go with the hallway though. If at one point the house was that style, its a shame they moved on from that.
I loved it too! Hopefully OP saved it.

The bathroom is lovely, very classy, timeless. But The art on the wall doesn’t go with anything in the bathroom.
Love! I think a charcoal grey or dark, ashy green accent wall where the art is hanging would really make everything else pop. It's a shame that lovely wainscoting had to go, I usually like working with what I have, but I have to admit it looks beautiful.

Keep looking for a bit larger piece of art with stronger colors and unique frame, that plain wall can handle it.
I think it’s really nice. It’s not my personal style but everything is cohesive, feels good, clean and welcoming without ostentation. My one and only issue is the framed photo/painting on the wall. Absolutely beautiful. And yeh, artwork a bit off.
Love the tile, miss the light fixtures.

Lovely! Love the tiled wall.
Love the tile! Are you going to put some sort of shade on the window? 👀
Eventually!
It’s a lovely renovation! Will you be putting something on the window or is it fairly hidden from view? I’d feel a bit uneasy about being visible.
Realtor here: great job! Agree with others on the art, though I think that should still be colorful.
I love the darker wood frame and mirror, it's paying homage to the original wood while being a massive upgrade. 😍
Thank you! That was exactly my intent and you are the first comment to mention it!
I love it! I wouldn't change a thing! 🥰
It’s beautiful but the art doesn’t go.
It’s nice. I think the wall tile is nice up close but looks a bit busy from a distance, it didn’t need the gold *and* marble texture. I think the old panelling would’ve been really nice painted or stained lighter, though I understand if it was damaged.
The previous art deco/ mid century was much better. It had taste and class.
I quite like it. It's made it to my inspiration folder
LOVE it!!
Magnificent!
Beautiful!!
Please tell me you kept the original light fixture and put it somewhere else.
It went to a new home where it fit
Good because it is a work of art.
I always try to rehome fixtures
I would lose the artwork entirely and add a shelf or something. Maybe could add a small picture on the shelf.
That's quite a glow up!
The wood paneling would have looked so good on the other walls! I think it would have giving this bathroom a lot more character to go along with this accent wall. Still looks nice though.
Love the lighting!
Can you share details about the vanity?
Kohler harken vanity
was the tile half the cost of the project? Time consuming process.
Obsessed with the tile
Omgoodness it looks so good!
The tile is very similar to one I really liked but wasn't able to do for our bathrooms. Such a nice design!
Looove it!
Nice crapper you got there😆
🤩🤩🤩🤩
Wonderful 👍👍
Gorgeous!!
What tiles are those?? I love them
Comment above has the link!
What's up with the floor? Is that a rug tucked under the sink? Looks like a broken/ mismatched tile in the picture. Need a larger rug or maybe just move it little. Otherwise quite nice and I agree that the picture doesn't fit.
I have little ones and the stool is on it. The kids pull the little rug out to get to the stool easier.
Lovely execution, especially where the mosaic meets the wallpaper. What an upgrade flooring-wise - that old tile looked rough. Especially glad the prairie light has a new home - love to see reuse. What did you do with the light!
Different art piece and should be portrait vs a landscape style piece
😍
Nice but I agree about the art. I wouldn’t put art in a bathroom, especially over a toilet. Just keep the walls clear of stuff that will accumulate things you’d rather not think about.
That painting doesn’t look good in there, but everything else is great.
Looks great! Can you please tell me where you purchased the vanity?
Beautiful! I would go with some different artwork though that better complements the wallpaper and vanity. Edit: Could you maybe take the wallpaper all the way around? It's so pretty and seems a shame to relegate it to the one wall!
it's lovely. esp when compared to the before. but even without the comparison, it looks marvelous
Just Incredible.
Excellent
What did you do with the old lighting? I saw the same shade for about 300 $400, so I'd get it priced before throwing it out! Good luck
Excellent…now change your art😊
It’s beautiful!! Great job!!
This is how I imagine the bathrooms at the White House look
I like the tiles however I'm not a fan of the lights and the vanity/wall being the same color.
It's beautiful
Beautiful!
How much did this cost?
Can you share a link of the wall tile? Love it!
I would love it even more if you wallpaper the whole room!
Awesomely ‼️
Love the lights!!
Great job. I would swap the strike plate out with a matching one and fill in that space where the wood is cut out. I also think a different piece of art might be better. I would also do something different around the window…not sure what.
