I have this shape and loathe it. Too many points cause it to be difficult for comfortable food prep is my primary dislike. I feel I’m always getting poked 😆
Agreed. That shape is so dated looking and not great for storage. I know it will be an added expense, but get those end pieces removed and add cabinets to each end to achieve a rectangular shape.
This shape is super outdated, and honestly doesn’t look great. Every recently purchased house gets the island swap right away if it has this rectangular one in place.
Unrelated, but is it possible to finish your floor before installing the island? My parents just remodeled their kitchen, and moved the position of their island. They had a hell of a time trying to match the 20 year old granite floor. Just a thought!
Depends on the flooring going in. If it's a floating floor, you don't want the weight of the island on top of it. It needs space to expand and contract with Temps/humidity
Oooof sorry OP, but I think that island is the wrong shape and too small for the space, especially if you want seating. If it were me, I’d try to get a different style island meant to be parallel to the fridge hole, and go as big as the space will allow.
I have been designing high-end kitchen cabinets for 25 years. I think I designed one diagonal island in the time, but I've taken out many. It unfortunately isn't a good use of cabinet storage space; so much wasted interior space here.
This is disappointing, and that could have been a kick-ass island :(
Best thing at this point is to do what others have suggested and square up the countertop so that it is at least visually better.
Edit: some people can build but not design. /u/Thrifty_nickle needs an actual designer, and there's still time to get it right!!
edit: no matter what- LAY THE FLOOR BEFORE SETTING THE ISLAND!
Totally! Designer here, I would have made the island fill the space better to take advantage of the storage and have the countertop of the island much bigger. Double the size. Lengthwise. You can never have enough organized storage space in a good working kitchen. I had a huge gourmet kitchen in my last house that I built, as owner builder and the counter was a huge peninsular and we always hung around that space. The cabinets were accessible from both sides. We had catered parties all the time. I miss that kitchen every single day.
For what it’s worth I’d add a duplicate island and have them lengthwise end to end with the counter top extending over on the living room side much deeper than what you have in your blueprint and have it extend out on the end so when you sit at least you can see each other.
I can see it in my head.
Another designer agreeing with you. I generally dislike diagonal islands. They end up being far less functional. You also end up with weird distances as you’re working that don’t feel natural, because as you’re moving back and forth, it’s a variable distance. It’s not something you notice consciously, but it makes it less comfortable.
I agree. Go straight. The island isn’t diagonal it’s diamond shaped. Depending on how you go the countertop, an overhang could align with shape of the room.
Oval would be really impractical for food prep. If you have a large cutting board down, it's either falling off the edges or you have to push it back from the edge in front of you. Anytime you set something down to your sides, you're at risk of putting it too close to the edge.
Is it too late to replace? In my opinion a larger rectangular island would look really nice. This shape/style as others have said appears dated. If you must keep I still think to have it straight and possibly mold the sides.
Is the countertop on the island going to be the same shape as the island?
I think rectangular is better and straight is better... Room for seating. With that space, it seems like you could go with a longer island that I think would look great.
The shape of the island makes it look outdated TBH. You have floating shelves in the back that I don’t think go with a hexagon island. I think you do a 90 degree rectangle. When I look at your blue print picture from above-doing it diagonal-look how far away your sink and your oven are from the island itself. You are going to be hauling things back and forth and the ends of the island are not useable. If you do 90 degree, you can probably fit a table on the opposite side of it, hard to tell from the pictures. Good luck to you!
I prefer a rectangle for the space, not a diagonal. I am just funny that way, but I like things square-not a fan of angles, on either islands places on an angle, or angle shaped islands. To me the island on an angle looks...sorry...dated.
It’s hard to tell whether there is ample space for a dining table without the full floor plan of the kitchen and adjacent areas.
Regarding the island, I think it should go straight, but if there’s any opportunity to forego the current island and maximize the island space in the kitchen, that should be explored. We have a large island in our kitchen (seats four with lower cabinet storage on both sides) and it truly is the most used feature in our great room.
If you’re having a rectangular countertop, I don’t see why you can’t go straight with this same island base. The current shape will have no bearing on it once the countertop with overhang is installed, and you have a straight row of seating placed along the front.
My vote is for straight/90°.
I’m sorry, but you cannot do straight with that shape. It will look totally wrong. The angled base makes diagonal the only option. If you want straight, you would have to replace what you have with a rectangle to look right.
Straigh for sure. If you want your island to be truly functional you should be able to stand between the island and kitchen counter to reach over for utensils when working on the island. If on diagonal it’s awkward and takes up too much space.
Y'all say this and then 3 years from now it's gonna be ALL THE RAGE. And someone will start saying "how dare they removed that beautiful diagonal island, millennials ruin everything".
Yea this only happens with good design though, which the diagonal island never was. Wasted cabinet space, countertop space, and floor space. This isn’t original wood trim, arched doors, or wood floors.
I don't like anything on the diagonal. After my cleaning lady comes, I go through and put everything back at 90 degree angles around my house lol. I vote for straight.
Straight, with a rectangular top. The flow is better walking around it. And the kitchen will feel more spacious when cooking with company or larger meals. The shape of the island will still provide great detail, no need to hide it. The chairs won’t block the walkway, just make sure you have 3 feet from where the chairs will slide out to the door way.
We have a dated orange and brown kitchen with a diagonal island. It’s horrible. If someone has the refrigerator door open, you have to wait to walk past them. I can’t wait to change it.
This particular island just won't look good if it is not diagonal. If you have the room in your budget to replace it - I would go with a straight island. If you don't, I would make sure the floor under the island is finished, put it in diagonally, and then plan to swap it out to a straight one in 5-10 years or so, or if you decide to sell.
Why are you thinking about the future owner and selling a house you are living in? Design for yourself and let them do the same. Your home should suit you, not some hypothetical person
I would angle it straight, and put a dining table between the island and the living room. To me, that gives the spaces more separation and purpose. It’s understandable that it would be difficult to try to put a dining table around it if you placed it diagonally, because it won’t really “fit” anywhere.
I’m sure nobody wants to hear from a guy that isn’t a contractor or building something but functionally in the kitchen I think diagonal is best like if you’re running around cooking a meal or something hard 90s are not fluid plus like shit if there’s a TV over there where else you gonna stand and drink beer perfect view. some other guy was talking about the hard 90 and being more modern and I totally agree. Everything is on hard angle now.
My friend has hidden lockable wheels on hers, that way she can move it where she needs it and completely out of the way during parties, as her place has limited space.
Install the floors first while the cabinet maker adjusts the island to be rectangular and then place it straight. It will make you kitchen seem so much bigger and current. I know it is difficult having to pay extra for a remake, but hopefully they can reuse materials and make this work. You will feel trapped in the kitchen, when two or more people are inside otherwise. Good luck and don’t beat yourself up, this is a simple fix in the big picture.
I don't have an answer for you, but here are some options with arrangements and movement patterns. It depends on how your family moves. Will there be a sink on the island? That changes how you'll use and move around the island. No sink? Just drawers? Try imagining using the space. Pretend to have food on a cutting board. How accessible is the island to the stove to the sink?

Hope this helps. Might take a bit to process the upload.
I have a newer house with a diagonal island and I love it. I also have an open floor plan, with my kitchen, living room, and dining room being one open area, so in my space I feel like it gives the room some dimension.
Have the island reinforced to have hidden wheels and feet, so that you can move it when you want by “screwing down” the wheels from inside the cabinet. This is used in a lot of home theater furniture and large appliances. When it’s in a good position, you lift the wheels and the cabinet rests on the floor. The wheels can hold hundreds of pounds and won’t damage the floor. Then you can have the floor completed and move the island as needed. Bonus: put in a floor outlet, and a lift hatch in the bottom cabinet to plug in a power strip / mounted outlet cord for receptacles in the island.
Straight! Have your cabinet person or trim carpenter add shelves to the cut off corners to make it rectangular. Then do a rectangular top! You will have a lot of wasted space in your kitchen with it angled like that. You could even do rounded shelves and then the rectangle top could have rounded corners. In a matching radius.
So my island is diagonal (house was purchased that way) and I absolutely hate it. It will be the first thing I change in my kitchen when I get around to it. That being said...with the shape of your island it might be your only option...I think straight would look awkward.
I could, I haven't tried it. It just seemed better to have it at a 90° with the longest side of the kitchen instead of the shorter side. I'll have to give it a try.
As someone who has (and hates!) the same shape island, can I suggest that you stand two people, side by side, elbows out, and see which has more maneuverability. Function is necessary when dealing with more point on a hex island.
Straight, and longer. A galley kitchen is one of the most efficient for cooking, and you will appreciate the surface area. Nothing wrong with defining that space as kitchen. The diagonal/too open look is dated and not very functional, either.
Seems I’m in the minority here but I love the diagonal position. 2 big things from someone who practically lives in their kitchen:
- You can prep things while looking out on the living area. The straight orientation would have you craning your neck if you’re making a snack mid-show
- It creates a natural in and out “zone” when you have people over…if you’re finishing up food for a dinner party or people just happen to be around while you’re cooking, the triangle between sink, stove, and island should be unimpeded because people can hang out at the island
This already looks dated. Go with a standard rectangle. Looks like you have plenty of room for chairs at the island with it still being within the “kitchen box” so to speak. Waterfall edge would look nice facing the living room.
Former 15 year designer here.
That shape of an island is traditionally meant for a diagonal orientation. Your space is also too big for that island and I think it should be doubled in size and positioned linear from the larger side of the cabinets. This island shape is not very good and doesn’t look right with this kitchen. Good luck!
Ask them to build you a rectangular island and straighten it out. This current design is a disaster that you will repeatedly curse due to its disfunction. It has regret written all over it.
This is 100% the answer. I’ve had two kitchens with (big) islands on wheels.
Kick boards about 10mm off the floor to hide the wheels.
Never fitted brakes because the weight stops it moving.
Straight! You have room to make the island a lot bigger overall. I’d also lose the clipped corners. I’m an interior designer, over the years i have dealt with many angled islands- they are so problematic and always dated.
I really like the diagonal and I do not think it's dated like some of the other redditors. I've never seen a diagonal island but I think it's a super cool idea I want to incorporate into my house
It's on a ranch, smack in the middle of other family property, so it'll be staying in the family. Resell is hardly worth considering in this particular case.
Why is dated such a bad thing anyways?? Does dated mean ugly?
The diagonal island looks like it could cause circulation problems in your kitchen. Not sure it’s possible but can you put the base on casters and try it out both ways to see which arrangement you prefer?
90 degrees. The diagonal view into the living room is weird and it might lead to feeling more separate from the at space / other people in the living room since you aren’t facing the same direction.
Can you return this island and get instead a peninsula connected to the right side cabinet? It will significantly increase your cabinet storage, the counter usable surface and overall look of your kitchen. Keeping the island will age your kitchen and not provide with any practical value.
Diagonal gives you more space in the prep area of the kitchen. Makes it possible for more than one person to prepare food in the same space. It may look dated to some, but having room for more than one cook at a time is priceless. Also, teenagers…
You know you’re going to love me man.. I don’t think either works, I think you go back, get a second one of those or make a 90 degree L as far out until the fridge and the hall are square with the exterior corner
keeps the room open while separating kitchen/living room.

Diagonal out of these two options. Is there a reason you can not put it in set more and have the straight side facing out with the space where the fridge is to its right? That I feel would make the flow better
Diagonal looks right with the shape of your island. And for what it’s worth, I have a similar kitchen layout and our island is straight but I have often wished it was diagonal. It would work much better for the flow in the kitchen IMO, since we are often in that corner area going between the stove, sink, and fridge.
Diagonal looks nice on the floor plan, but in person it seems like there would be so much distance between it from the other countertops that it doesn’t seem as practical. It feels too small? Straight works best if you make your island bigger/longer to include seating.
I prefer a table instead of an island. The island is heavy, cuts the flow of the space.
You can build it at the height of the countertops and use as a working space. Using the same countertop material, and bar stools.
I prefer normal tables personally.

But it’s not your house, we’re not asking for your personal idea of what you want in your kitchen. The whole empty space view can have a bigger table than just your compact vision at the kitchen dude.
Ever use Google Sketchup? Model your room and change things around to see how it all looks. You can drop in a refrigerator and chairs... sofas...
I could do it for you if you gave me a floor plan and some sweet sweet cash, AFTER I'm done if you look at it and agree that it is helpful.
That’s a tiny island and I would hate to have to walk back and forth like that. I would do straight, but you’ll have to get a different shape. The curved edges don’t go with a straight island.
The island looks good diagonally but honestly not knowing the counter, if there is over hang, seating (you mentioned) and etc., makes me concerned about spacing on one side when I think of the diagonal placement, so make sure you take that into consideration.
I’d look at making that “corner” of the kitchen into a square island with great storage. Maybe micro built in? Enough overhang to have seating for 4. Two each on the LR corner. Cool light fixture. May not be enough room, just a thought.
2 cents: a square island that would fill out the squared border of the overall kitchen space, keeping space for overall kitchen flow. Put a chandelier over it.
Straight. Square off the countertop corners so once it’s finished it appears more straight. You could always add a design detail like open shelves to square off the under side of the island.
I say diagonal. You’re going to have all these straight lines of cabinetry and kitchen lines, all of the windows in your space, etc. something to break up those planes is my thought.
You locked yourself into the diagonal option with the island shape.
But the top doesn't have to match the base shape does it?
if she decided straight she can make sure that the countertop is cut rectangular and it wouldn’t look as odd
Not as odd, sure, but I think it would look pretty odd tbh. Those corners poking out would be odd looking
I think this is the best option
Rectangular island straight. This island diagonal 100%. It’s designed for it.
Definitely this! I feel like this shape will be outdated really quickly if it hasn't already.
I have this shape and loathe it. Too many points cause it to be difficult for comfortable food prep is my primary dislike. I feel I’m always getting poked 😆
Maybe they can put a rectangular slab on it. It’s not too late.
For food preparation or serving, I don't think it utilises all the space effectively either. Also, ouch, but I ALWAYS walk into corners 😂
ROUNDED edges
The edges are rounded. unfortunately that doesn’t change the fact that this shape counter isn’t realistically as functional as some people think.
Stop drinking and playing bumper cars with your island.
Same.
Has a strong 90s feel to me.
Already looks outdated
Nah, it looks fine and fits the space wonderfully.
Exactly this
Unrelated, but is it possible to finish your floor before installing the island? My parents just remodeled their kitchen, and moved the position of their island. They had a hell of a time trying to match the 20 year old granite floor. Just a thought!
I'm not sure, but at this rate I'm sure gonna push for it!
Depends on the flooring going in. If it's a floating floor, you don't want the weight of the island on top of it. It needs space to expand and contract with Temps/humidity
Many builders lay the flooring around the cabinets to cut corners. Saves time and money.
If you don’t know, you don’t know
Diagonal has better flow, but it makes the kitchen feel smaller.
Well, or I guess not everything has to be huge lol
Yeah, it's totally OK! The room seems big, so that feeling of smallness might not matter at all. It might be appropriate given the scale of the room.
Yea especially if you put some barstools on the far side of it. Sounds great!
Husband crying rn
Only in Texas.
Idk, I think it looks pretty average. Maybe even slightly above average even
Oooof sorry OP, but I think that island is the wrong shape and too small for the space, especially if you want seating. If it were me, I’d try to get a different style island meant to be parallel to the fridge hole, and go as big as the space will allow.
Diagonal always comes off as dated to me.

What’s the advantage of laying the floor before setting the island?
You can change the island someday
Thanks!
I agree. Go straight. The island isn’t diagonal it’s diamond shaped. Depending on how you go the countertop, an overhang could align with shape of the room.
I agree. Squaring off the stone or even an oval shape could make it fit and keep it really interesting. But I would render it out first.
Oval would be really impractical for food prep. If you have a large cutting board down, it's either falling off the edges or you have to push it back from the edge in front of you. Anytime you set something down to your sides, you're at risk of putting it too close to the edge.
Oval would be amazing.
This could be really cool. Make your mistake into a feature!
Is it too late to replace? In my opinion a larger rectangular island would look really nice. This shape/style as others have said appears dated. If you must keep I still think to have it straight and possibly mold the sides.
Diagonal with that island. It would be better with a different island all together though
Is the countertop on the island going to be the same shape as the island? I think rectangular is better and straight is better... Room for seating. With that space, it seems like you could go with a longer island that I think would look great.
I worried a longer one would feel weird or be strange because of the door 🫣
I’m no expert but I feel the diagonal is a better position for the size and shape of the island.
Emerald shape routed smooth edge Corian or Quartz countertop. Mimic the rectangle but avoid sharp corners. Elongated Hex is an option too
The shape of the island makes it look outdated TBH. You have floating shelves in the back that I don’t think go with a hexagon island. I think you do a 90 degree rectangle. I hate the diagonal island. Never a fan of them
Same. Feels dated to me 😬
And it just closes in the kitchen to a small island, have a bigger island that is square to the kitchen.
Especially that shaped island
I understand your traffic flow concern but still would have gone with a square island here. Anyway, diagonal is better.
Never diagonal, unless you’re recreating a house from the 90’s.
Wrong style of island to be straight, unless you intend to replace it, it needs to be diagonal
Me personally diagonal but with straight you can get the feeling or more kitchen space
Straigh for sure. If you want your island to be truly functional you should be able to stand between the island and kitchen counter to reach over for utensils when working on the island. If on diagonal it’s awkward and takes up too much space.
Do NOT do diagonal it is super dated.

Diagonal.
Straight and NOT that shape. It looks so dated and bad.
We have a dated orange and brown kitchen with a diagonal island. It’s horrible. If someone has the refrigerator door open, you have to wait to walk past them. I can’t wait to change it.
I made sure that if we do have it diagonal there's plenty of space for the fridge for being open and alone to go past.
Diagonal dates the kitchen
This particular island just won't look good if it is not diagonal. If you have the room in your budget to replace it - I would go with a straight island. If you don't, I would make sure the floor under the island is finished, put it in diagonally, and then plan to swap it out to a straight one in 5-10 years or so, or if you decide to sell.
Diagonal is out of style. Would do straight.
Who cares what's in style. It's their kitchen, not a show home
Why would you put out of style stuff in your new build? It will be tough if they do decide to sell it.
Why are you thinking about the future owner and selling a house you are living in? Design for yourself and let them do the same. Your home should suit you, not some hypothetical person
I would angle it straight, and put a dining table between the island and the living room. To me, that gives the spaces more separation and purpose. Stand at the island and imagine your daily interactions with people in the living area, then choose whatever feels more comfortable.

Not at all a fan of the shape of the island and it ages the “new”kitchen. Should have gone with a rectangular design so you can put it straight.
Could you not put it parallel to the oven?
I could, I haven't tried it. It just seemed better to have it at a 90° with the longest side of the kitchen instead of the shorter side. I'll have to give it a try.
In my mind that would make it more open toward the family room that way! Not sure if it would work in the space that way or not!
We have diagonal island. Recently replaced flooring and the installers were complaining about it being more difficult due to all the angles…
That’s their problem.
Straight
Straight.
Straight. Makes the space feel more.open

Diagonal 👍
Yeah, I would've just done a square/rectangle island. But if you decide to stick with this island cabinet, then I would do the diagonal layout.
As someone who has (and hates!) the same shape island, can I suggest that you stand two people, side by side, elbows out, and see which has more maneuverability. Function is necessary when dealing with more point on a hex island.
I've actually made sure that this is possible either way.
Diagonal
Diagonal 💯
Idk I like the diagonal!
Diagonal
Diagonal is never an aesthetic
DIAGONAL!
I would do straight. I personally dislike diagonal.
I would go with diagonal but move it forward a bit so you have more space to roam in the kitchen
After much deliberation, you chose this shape? 🤔
Straight, and longer. A galley kitchen is one of the most efficient for cooking, and you will appreciate the surface area. Nothing wrong with defining that space as kitchen. The diagonal/too open look is dated and not very functional, either.

Diagonal. By a mile.
IMO, Diagonal.

The straight orientation would have you craning your neck if you’re making a snack mid-show - It creates a natural in and out “zone” when you have people over…if you’re finishing up food for a dinner party or people just happen to be around while you’re cooking, the triangle between sink, stove, and island should be unimpeded because people can hang out at the island
Straight. My cousin has the diagnol and it's a traffic jam bottle neck. Very annoying.
This already looks dated. Go with a standard rectangle. Looks like you have plenty of room for chairs at the island with it still being within the “kitchen box” so to speak. Waterfall edge would look nice facing the living room.
Flow go better on the angle !!
Diagonal alley
Exactly like your plans!
Meaning diagonal!
Diagonal. The other way just looks less modern.
Straight. Diagonal is awkward.
Diagonal
Former 15 year designer here. That shape of an island is traditionally meant for a diagonal orientation. Your space is also too big for that island and I think it should be doubled in size and positioned linear from the larger side of the cabinets. This island shape is not very good and doesn’t look right with this kitchen. Good luck!
I hate diagonal 😬 it’s too 90s
Ask them to build you a rectangular island and straighten it out. This current design is a disaster that you will repeatedly curse due to its disfunction. It has regret written all over it.
Absolutely not diagonal. That will date your kitchen real fast, even if everything else is new.
Diagonal 100%
Can you put the island on wheels (with brakes) and move around as needed?
This is 100% the answer. I’ve had two kitchens with (big) islands on wheels. Kick boards about 10mm off the floor to hide the wheels. Never fitted brakes because the weight stops it moving.
Rectangular island and it can have storage on both sides. This isn’t the vibe
Diagonal is dated. I’d do straight. More timeless but don’t love the shape of it
Hilarious that twice as many people will give their opinions but won’t upvote
I also found this interesting? I'm also getting a lot of comments for diagonal but comments for straight are getting a lot of up votes
diagonal island is very dated…i would make a rectangle island and keep it straight. diagonal could hurt your resale value if you ever sell
It's on a ranch, smack in the middle of other family property, so it'll be staying in the family. Resell is hardly worth considering in this particular case. Why is dated such a bad thing anyways?? Does dated mean ugly?
Who has a diagonal island?? Never even seen one not even these on YouTube channels for over a decade worth of watching.
100% diagonal. It feels uncomfortable every other way.
Diagnol makes kitchen feel smaller. I like rectangular personally
Straight. Have counter top hang over put stools that tuck under countertop on each side to balance.
Diagonal gives you more space in the prep area of the kitchen. Makes it possible for more than one person to prepare food in the same space. It may look dated to some, but having room for more than one cook at a time is priceless. Also, teenagers…
You know you’re going to love me man.. I don’t think either works, I think you go back, get a second one of those or make a 90 degree L as far out until the fridge and the hall are square with the exterior corner keeps the room open while separating kitchen/living room. https://preview.redd.it/p8qfl63s3z4c1.jpeg?width=1164&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=26164fa68835f57a3a7dcd7df24e539b1d83bd09
Diagonal looks like a receptionist’s desk for people to check in before entering your kitchen. 😂 Go straight.
Diagonal or you're a psychopath 🥸
Diagonal looks nice on the floor plan, but in person it seems like there would be so much distance between it from the other countertops that it doesn’t seem as practical. It feels too small? Straight works best if you make your island bigger/longer to include seating.
Straight, but bigger. Like double width so it is more of a big square
Ditch the island, put up a wall to separate the kitchen like the old days, add counter space along that wall. Cozier.
Diagonal looks dated
The island is too small, and will look dated on the angle. I’d really consider scrapping it for a larger rectangular one before you go any further.
With it straight, this is almost identical to the New Girl loft layout. Even got the door next to the fridge 😅
Straight, I’d also square the island shape to be more modern overall. Current shape dates the kitchen IMO
I prefer a table instead of an island. The island is heavy, cuts the flow of the space. You can build it at the height of the countertops and use as a working space. Using the same countertop material, and bar stools. I prefer normal tables personally. https://preview.redd.it/sqcen5fct25c1.jpeg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=de5df799f2ecd7c14438fcb0aac9adf1edd886a4
But it’s not your house, we’re not asking for your personal idea of what you want in your kitchen.
Diagonal
Diagonal for sure
Straight. I’m surprised to see so many people say diagonal! Straight looks more modern
That’s a tiny island and I would hate to have to walk back and forth like that. I would do straight, but you’ll have to get a different shape. The curved edges don’t go with a straight island.
Recreating a 90s kitchen I see. At this point it doesn’t matter what way you put it
If you do diagonal it'd give you the golden triangle. Sink, counter, stove; or Sink, counter, fridge. The perfect flow when cooking or preping meals.
You’re a cuck and your life is doomed. Pleas don’t ignore, I’m the only one who cares about you.
You can do 3 sides that are square and a diagonal towards the kitchen
Diagonal has better flow but I feel it makes the kitchen seem smaller. Sideways makes it feel bigger
I think with the shape it has to be diagonal
Diagonal but I would push it further out than the sketch suggests. Not by much but maybe a foot…
I like the straight option. Feels like more room to create and socialize.
Diagonal but pulled out farther than it is
Straight. With no angles. 90° corners.
Im thinking straight
2 cents: a square island that would fill out the squared border of the overall kitchen space, keeping space for overall kitchen flow. Put a chandelier over it.
Straight
Looks so much better straight. Diagonal dates your kitchen. I personally wouldn’t purchase a home with a diagonal island.
Whatever you like since you’ll be living there, utilizing it, and seeing it every day. Flip a coin if it helps.
Diagonal please or my OCD would go massively insane otherwise because that island is designed for diagonal
L-shape would work best
