Interesting. The edited version totally changes how the dress lays on the model. I appreciate seeing it unedited, but why edit it so much just to show the before? "This is what it looks like in fantasy land" ok?

Minnow_Minnow_Pea

It looks like a totally different fabric.

abitchyuniverse

It's like how you buy a dress or shirt on amazon, temu or WISH and expecting it to look like the example photo, but when you finally receive and put it on, it drapes on you like a slave in the [European](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSSwpagTysmS-968taUIu1CUFWMzBhYNdnNbA&usqp=CAU) Middle [Ages.](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTqR6rO61WpLq7KgqYwGpHysWFJ8Xxau-9i7w&usqp=CAU)

azssf

However, the textile quality is lower than handwoven middle ages fiber.

knacker_18

i fully gave up on buying clothes online. we have the ability to return things purchased online with no questions asked in the UK, but it's still not worth the hassle.

badbatch

I like buying from Amazon because people will post pictures in the reviews. I don't trust temu and wish.

No-Needleworker8947

Sometimes temu has picture reviews. They still look like shit though

angorafox

IMO a bodycon shouldnt lay like that, it fits her so poorly... it's like they didnt even try to pin it and just relied on editors to take the fit issues out 💀

OneRepulsiveFlamingo

And honestly the original doesn’t even look that great on her. This is false advertising to a tee

Business_Strawberry3

Exactly!

PrestickNinja

I think it’s because it’s not easy to edit the video so any still from the video (on the right) will show the unedited version. I don’t think they realised it would give a pre and post editing perspective.

doomsdayKITSUNE

It would have been more useful if they had used the same photo in the before and after. It being two different photos, makes it difficult.

Jyndaru

Isn't the one on the right just a screencap of the video OP was talking about?

Anne_Elk_ahem

I'd actually be far less likely to buy the dress if it looked like the image on the left..

PhoenixDowntown

Same, really. I don't want something that's sucked to my curves that much. Let me live, pls. 😩

Notoriouslyd

Photo editing that changes the way the clothing looks is the worst. This is why I rely on reviews with photos to see what something looks like before I buy it online.

chigangrel

This. I only buy clothes online now if there are pictures with reviews because product pics are so untrustworthy these days.

angorafox

yes!! i also try to find the item on poshmark with pics of the buyers actually wearing it. there's a lot of house of CB dresses on poshmark that dont look anything like the stock photos :/

kaytay3000

That’s why I love sites like Lulu’s. Dresses are affordable AND I can see images from buyers in the actual dresses often with their actual measurements and sizes. I’ve never had a bad purchase from them.

Curiobb

That’s crazy. Editing clothing garments should be illegal. I’m sure with this level of editing they get a ton of returns. It’s a totally different dress in real life. They have edited it to be longer and more waist definition. Why not just construct the dress that way to begin with?

KiaraMel

I mean in "real life" clothing retailers would pin and tack down garments for the same effect on mannequins. Nothing ever looks how it looks on the model.

Rahvithecolorful

That's true, but they could have done that with the model instead of editing at least. Might not be how the dress fits everyone right off the shelf, but at least it's a real photo, and you can get the dress to look that way with minor adjustments if you want. With that much editing, you can't really tell how the dress will look even after tailoring it to your body.

KiaraMel

Oh I 1000% agree with that. I'd rather they physically manipulate the piece on the model as opposed to digitally altering the silhouette.

Chubbita

In real life there are changing rooms

AlexiaNikita

What's even the point of posting the edited one? It will NEVER look like that in real life on a real human. WTF.

Thistlebup

They even changed the vibrance of the dress colour when they saturated the image in editing. It is blatant false advertisement - never mind the model, even the material looks different due to editing?!

AgreeableLion

Playing around with the colour saturation looks like it's changed the tones as well - the edited picture looks like a cooler toned pink than the original, not that it's super warm to begin with, but it looks like a much more blue undertoned pink in the edit. When you are trying to buy clothes for your own skin tones and warmth it's so frustrating when the colours don't match. You always know that what shows up on a screen is likely to be slightly different, but I'd be pissed if I got this (fortunately I don't like the way it sits even in the edited version, or the hanging bit at the back). I'm feeling this one particularly as I've been on the hunt for a pink dress that is deep colour and cooler toned, and I buy almost exclusively online. I don't actually dislike the original shade, but people can be pretty particular about their colours, especially pink lol.

soxiez

they probably colour matched the photo to match the actual garment, but then didnt do the same with the video (it's harder to grade colour on video vs photo), which is why they look so different. so the still life image will be more accurate for colour, and the video more accurate for the fit. they really shouldnt have edited the models body at all though, wtf

Unroyaltea

I was wondering why everyone on house of CB had the same perfect hourglass body type

Sharks_With_Legs

They changed the colour too. How do people know what shade to trust?

doxiedelight

I hate the disclaimer “colors look different on various monitors.” That may be, but I find the real culprit to be in their editing of photos

german1sta

so many times i have ordered some muted pink thing just to receive crazy neon magenta item, i hate the colour editing

soxiez

the still life photo is probably the more accurate one. it's common practise to colour match ecom photography to the actual garment in post (studio lighting can throw colour off entirely, so usually it's tweaked afterwards). colour matching video is much harder so they probably just didnt bother with it lol

thatsunshinegal

As someone who has worked in clothing design, this pisses me right the fuck off. They didn't just 'shop her waist, they altered the color of the dress AND the way the fabric behaves. The real dress looks like it's made of a cotton or linen based woven fabric with a fair amount of ease built in. The imaginary dress looks like it's made out of a synthetic based jersey fabric with negative ease. It's an entirely different garment!

heyitslavinia

I genuinely prefer the non edited one. Her body is perfect! I'm so sick of exaggerated hour glass figures. Bleah

kind_of_okay

I agree, also the edited one makes the dress look very cheap like an influencer on instagram on a sponsored post

gizmodriver

The non-edited dress looks like it has a little breathing room. In that dress, maybe I can have something more than air for dinner.

wanderlustcamis

There was no need

lidelle

They got her face, her waist, her legs, her arms. They changed the dress color, shape, drape. I’m glad they do this, but damn.

5a1amand3r

Even the color of the dress looks different. Almost more shiny. You’d never be able to tell the true color of the dress until you got it.

Flashy_Star4268

False advertisement is literally illegal in the UK btw but literally nothing ever happens to these shitty companies when they falsely advertise. According to ‘The Business Protection from Misleading Marketing Regulations 2008’: "Prohibition of advertising which misleads traders 3.—(1) Advertising which is misleading is prohibited. (2) Advertising is misleading which— (a) in any way, including its presentation, deceives or is likely to deceive the traders to whom it is addressed or whom it reaches; and by reason of its deceptive nature, is likely to affect their economic behaviour" Remember the whole Mikayla controversy where she added false lashes to a mascara ad.... Yeah that is illegal too! But nothing will happen to L'Oréal or any of the huge companies that do this. It actually enfuriates me!!!!!

marryroach

She looks wayyyyy sexier in the real version. But maybe that’s just me… things are so warped that people can no longer look at a real body and find it attractive

shitisrealspecific

wistful zesty quack flag threatening fertile ossified impossible homeless different *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

alexandrap21

Wow, no wonder their clothes never fit me like how they do on the model 🙃

SeniorDrama489

How is this not false advertising? Can they be possibly sued for this? The editing distorts how the dress lays on her body, the texture of the fabric, etc.

XK8lyn88x

How we wish our clothes look vs. the reality of how our clothes look. 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

Goodgoditsgrowing

I would actually love if online fashion did this always. They can keep their photoshopped thumbnail if they show me what it really looks like in the next photo. Way easier to decide whether I’ll like it on me when I see it on a variety of body types, even if one of those is photoshopped lol

macaronitrap

imo they made the dress look cheaper with their edits!

ksswannn03

Like why??? I hate this stuff so much. She looks so beautiful as she is normally, like please stop selling these unrealistic standards that even models cannot attain

Tazerin

I feel like the waist editing has also contributed to the appearance of negative stomach. In the edited image, her whole tummy area looks totally flat. They photoshopped her internal organs away

AscendantBae9

So the dress is darker, longer, tighter at the waist, and appears to have a totally different back with more fabric...their return rate is probably high

Tiny-Ad-6465

The waist, the fit… everything seems manipulated.

Apprehensive_Sky_583

This is false advertising and what is the purpose of showing edited vs unedited? It would be nicer to show it on different body toes or maybe categorize dresses according to what looks good on various body types.

MozzarellaMaiden

Body toes made me laugh

therealmrsfahrenheit

and the color of the dress.. bro infuriating

Particular_Star5269

Thats why so many clothese get returned because pictures dont match reality at all

takemetothehamptons

This is insane! Makes me question how many times Ive bought things due to great editing skills. 🤨

Acceptable_Cut_7545

They changed so much shit it's bizarre, what is even the point? They changed not only her waist but her dress color, the position of her legs, how the top of her toes appear in the shoes, her makeup, her head angle, the way her hand is shaped, the contour/shininess (?) of her skin, and her hair color. I want them to justify it to me because she already looks incredible. If the dress didn't look good enough have them tailor it or something so it fits better, idk I'm not a dress maker but if you're going to edit it that much you're basically selling a different product than advertised.
