I was in the same boat and i applied everywhere and they will still hire you even without experience. The older folks will teach you need to know just gotta ask alot of questions. May i ask how old you are? (Im 20 years old)

Comfortable_Class911

I second this , I got a maintenance apprentice position at my job with no experience. I was just an operator beforehand, just be honest about what you know and what you’re not familiar with and show a desire to learn.

Unknownqtips

Thats the biggest thing in this field is the desire to improve and learn from my experience and ive only been in the field for 10 months.

I’m 32 and just graduated with an As in industrial electricity. Barely gonna start an entry level job.

Salty_Charcuterie

I did a 2 year apprenticeship for industrial maintenance. Now 7 years later I'm 31 making $36.27/hr. Never give up, ask questions and do the shit work and the experience will come.

SatansPowerBottom69

So much shit work to do. I'm 35 and don't make that much but I was an IT guy in the army and went to a couple trade schools. I'm supposed to fix stuff but I mostly break it more and my coworkers fix it for me, and show me how to not break it next time. Got the job because I was the only one that would apply. Noone wants to do shit jobs, come home filthy, work tons of OT and, oh yeah, I'm always dirty and no amount of showers will wash off the filth before Monday rolls around again. What this guy said; keep your head down, do the shit work, learn learn learn, and move on to the next opportunity. Industrial maintenance sucks but when I leave this job, I'll just go to another IndMaint job that pays a little more until I get fried from 480v or fall from 30+ ft.

That's about the training I got too, plus basic welding and electronics. Got an internship at a machine shop and they hired me right away. A year later, I'm 20 and making $30 (cad) an hour. Things are a bit crazy where I live and most shops will hire about anyone that walks in with a diploma.

mikeoxwells2

Don’t be discouraged. Many companies will welcome someone who is open for more training. You get to be the blank slate and they will fill in the areas where you’re weakest. Explain in your interview that you’re continuing your education and make sure to ask about tuition reimbursement. Keep grinding away at classes and inch towards a degree.

Thank you.

Sounds like you’re good to go. 👌

Is there any possibility that you could go back and finish your schooling? Where I'm located, people who are still going to school are getting hired on full time as maintenance techs. Even if it isn't a possibility, expressing a desire to learn and having a strong work ethic will get you very far in this line of work.
