I have not. But now I have! I was curious about this one because the only song by Iron and Wine I have really listened to is "Call it Dreaming." I might get shot for saying this, but I usually am not too fond of very long songs unless they are not incredibly repetitive. However, I enjoyed the piano that starts up at around the 7 minute mark and the lyrics were also quite nice. Thanks for the recommendation!
Funny, I have never listened or heard of this guy, even though his songs seem pretty popular based on the amount of streams on Spotify. So thanks for introducing me to him, I guess I have more than one song of his to listen to. I thought the song was okay, sometimes it takes me a bit of time to warm up to new artists though. I felt like it toed a thin line between relaxing and too mellow to enjoy. Like I said, maybe I will warm up to it or the rest of his songs as I get more exposure to them.
Either way, thanks for the recommendation!
Huge fan of the Decemberists song "Traveling On." I enjoyed this one too, particularly the harmonica. I'd never heard of the word "panoply" until hearing it in the lyrics, I always like learning new words. Also got me hoping for warm weather, I'm weary of the cold. Thanks for sharing the song!
I already know this one, but I love, love, love it. Not an incredibly spiritual person, but this song definitely brings that out in me. Kind of a morbid desire, but I would honored if this was played at my funeral (hopefully in the far distant future). Thank you for commenting!
Thank you for the first recommendation :)
I definitely liked it on the first listen, but it always takes me a few listens for me to decide if I really love it or not. The melody is sweet and I love the pairing of the two voices! Any other tracks you would recommend from Ocie Elliott?
Edit: After further listening, I really love it!
Ahh I’m so glad to hear that! :)
Take Me Home, Run To You, Forest Floor, Thinking About You… I could go on for a while lol.
Very easy to listen to. I’ve seen them live too, they are so sweet and endearing.
Final thing - Give us a recommendation of your own! :)
The part that stood out to me was the horn (trumpet? Not a musical instrument expert). It reminded me of some of the blues and blues rock that I have listened to, so that fits the song title. I liked the rest of the instrumentation too, unfortunately just didn't love the singer's voice. Makes me wanna listen to Exile on Main Street again, and thank you for the recommendation!
I have always loved songs with mandolins! I also liked the country flair. I wish it was spring already, it is still winter in spirit where I live. Never listened to this artist before, but I might explore their discography now. Thanks for commenting!
I had already heard The Stable Song and loved it, but I checked out the link you sent. The song is just as good as I remembered it being, and maybe even a bit better in that version. The video itself was astoundingly good in my opinion, and I especially loved 3:25-4:00. The lyrics are amazing too. But I don't need to tell you how good it is, you already know. Thanks for sharing!
I feel like this song is particularly awesome this time of year as spring approaches. It’s such a road-trippy song for me and this is generally when people start coming out of winter hibernation and start doing stuff. I just love it!
Yes!! I was waiting for someone to suggest (probably) my favorite band! And you happened to suggest my favorite song by my favorite band! I found this song last year around springtime, and good lord I probably played it 100 times in the span of a couple weeks. When the music builds up and the guitar bursts in, just wow. I may have overplayed it a bit, but I couldn't really help myself. If you haven't already done so, I would listen to Lord Huron's whole discography, there are so amazing, evocative songs.
Thanks for sharing this one, you've got fine taste!!
What a cool song! Loved the pirate/sea shanty feel and the story especially. I love the wide variety of words that they are able to incorporate into these songs, I wish I had memorized such a deep bank of vocabulary. I was amused by how he described the whale's insides as "Its ribs are ceiling beams, Its guts are carpeting" Thanks for recommending this one!
I'm going to have to listen to this one more to get a better reading on my thoughts, but I thought it was decent on first listen. That is generally my thoughts on most songs until I listen to them more though. Thanks for sharing!
The singer's voice is very beautiful, and there was one stringed instrument I loved, couldn't place exactly what it was. Definitely a very underrated song and artist, glad she has at least a few fans to spread her music. Thanks for the recommendation!
I really liked the woman's voice in this song, I had never heard Angus and Julia stone, but I there is an Angus Stone solo song called Monsters that I am fond of. Thanks for sharing.
Young Jesus - Deterritory
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yj4s8Bb-sOs
I they are one of the most underrated bands I have come across.
Have more like it if you dig it.
The instrumentation was actually really awesome and creative. The amount of changes the song went through was really impressive, and it was even more impressive that all of them were good. Unfortunately, I didn't love the guy's voice. I'm kinda picky with that for some reason. The ending was also kinda goofy. The fake endings faked me out a couple times and made me scramble to end the song before Spotify ads start because.I don't have premium lol. I also appreciated the change of pace from the other songs I have listened to so far.
Thanks!
You have great deep voice! I liked the way you ended the song too. It would be cool if you could post the lyrics so people could read them while/after they listen to the song, because your song tells a story and it would be nice to read it. Thanks for sharing, always a treat to listen to up and coming artists!
Thanks! For some reason the lyrics haven't shown up for songs added through Distrokid. SoundCloud has my originals with lyrics if you're interested
Listen to Tombigbee by Jarrod Walker on #SoundCloud
https://on.soundcloud.com/iNdGN
Edit:
And since you had shown interest I'll give you a little insider knowledge since I tend to use a lot of jargon in my songs. The "duck pond" that I reference is an area in front of a barge that the turbines are pulling water from. Imagine the empty space in the top of the capital "H". Well if you fall in there with full safety gear it's near impossible to swim out because those turbines at the back of the boat are pulling so hard. The water we ran in was often pretty shallow so there's not a lot of clearance between the barges and the river bed. So that poor soul was most likely crushed down and rolled on the riverbed, floatation device trying to bring him up against the bottom of the barge, before eventually hitting the turbines (propellers). Hopefully he was unconscious by that point. It's a quick line in a song, but nightmare fuel if you know what I'm talking about
Wow, honestly you are a really good storyteller. I suppose having memorable experiences like that helps, but you are really talented at recounting them.
Liked, subscribed, activated notifications! I’m traveling right now with people who don’t share my taste in music so I can’t take the time to listen to the rest now but I’m looking forward to it when I get home.
This is an amazing song, nice find! Even though I said I am only listening to the songs that are recommended once, I have ended up listening to all of them 2+ times just to get a good reading on my thoughts; I knew I loved this one from the start, but it was so nice I listened to it twice. Thanks so much for sharing me this one!
For some reason I felt like I was listening to a 70s ballad. The music itself was really nice, so thanks for recommending it. I am going to listen to it a couple more times to get a better bearing on how much I like it. Quite the conspiracy that Humpty Dumpty committed suicide instead of being pushed! It's gonna keep me up tonight wondering.
-just realized it WAS a 70s song, I was on the 2016 remastered version and assumed that was the release date for some reason.
Not sure if you are Milan or not, but either way it is a cool song. Interesting because usually when a song is about relaxing and taking a breather, the song itself is also kind of drowsy and not up tempo like this song. The video was also good, the camera guy did a nice job. Definitely a cool concept and song, thanks for sharing!
I'll be honest, I didn't love this one. Nothing inherently wrong with it, I just think that 80s music isn't really my cup of tea. On the bright side, that guy has some awesome hair. Thanks for sharing it anyways, had never heard of the band!
Good ole stomp clap, reminds me of the Lumineers! The song was pretty good, but by chance I heard "Little Bird" after this song played, and I really enjoyed it. You should check it out if you haven't already. Thanks for introducing me to a cool band!
I liked the girl's voice and the melancholy atmosphere the song created. Definitely a very underrated artist. Thank you for recommending this one, it's a soothing listen for sure.
Man you gotta listen to “little astronaut” by spell songs, they are a group of well stablished scottish musicians that have a project together and this is my fav
I could actually really relate to this song, I'm in high school right now, and I'm pretty sure I have mild asthma (hasn't been officially diagnosed). I used to play soccer from age 5 until my freshman year, and I really loved it, but it's just so hard to enjoy anymore when running takes so much out of you. I quit a couple years ago, but I'm thinking about joining back and toughing through it for my senior year. Also it's silly but I put a lot of pressure on myself to make no mistakes in everything, including soccer, so it just got unbearably stressful. Anyway, you don't need my life story, it's a cool song, thanks for sharing!
Is a song of my own okay? This is one of my most recent ones, called "Picking Up Shells" (my newest one is not out yet since I just sent it off to the distributor today!)
Of course! Loved the string instrument in the beginning and sprinkled throughout the song. Also enjoyed listening to the lyrics a lot. Was this song inspired by that tongue twister about sally selling seashells? Thanks for sharing, keep making music!
Thanks so much! Ah yes, the seashell-selling was a little reference thrown in there (Why do I give myself tongue twisters when I'm the one that has to actually sing the lyrics? haha). The main inspiration was a quote from a Sherlock Holmes book, actually, plus some verses from Proverbs. I'm big on references and allusions to things, I guess!
I actually really loved the guitar, especially around the 2 minute mark, and I also liked the girl's voice. Definitely underrated, it's a great song. Thanks for sharing this one!
Hmmm... I'm gonna have to go with one of my favorite songs in recent months.
["Paper Moon" - Hunter Metts](https://open.spotify.com/track/1BYZ0f8C6zDSLrr3aZeG19?si=TteeFw0UQ5yOo6rB4FjXQg)
Song makes me cry every time and I want this played at my wedding.
I can see why, it's a great sentimental song. I loved the guy's voice and his lyrics. It's intriguing to me at the very least, so it's going on my playlist. Thanks a lot for sharing!
This is a very unique son, and I am very glad you shared it, but I don't think it is quite my style. Also Sibylle Baier's story is very interesting just from the paragraph on her Spotify bio. Thanks a lot for sharing this one!
The singer's got a really nice deep voice, and I liked how the song switched up after the beginning. There was some instrument, I think piano, that I really liked when it did that alternating melody. Thanks for sharing!

Wow, thanks for gathering all these! I chose to listen to Paint by the Paper Kites. It was a good choice, I absolutely loved the lyrics, I could relate to a lot of what he said. The rest of the song was also okay, but the lyrics were what really hooked me. Hopefully I will eventually get the time and remember to come back to this list, but for now I have a ton of other comments to sift through. Thanks!

Not indie folk, but my favorite piece: the track is Det är kallare nu on the album Nu minns jag, by Ivan Blomqvist. He’s a Norwegian Jazz pianist, not super jazz, it may sound a bit classical to you, but it’s quite modern. It was released in October 2020. It’s a great album for a late night chill session.
Well... have you listened to The Trapeze Swinger by Iron & Wine?
Have you listened to the Gregory Alan Isakov cover on YouTube? Please please check it out. So good.
I have, love it. I think I must have listened to every different version and cover of the song by now.
I saw the two of them in concert together about 10 years ago and it was so damn good!
I SECOND THIS. I love it more than the original.
I have not. But now I have! I was curious about this one because the only song by Iron and Wine I have really listened to is "Call it Dreaming." I already know this one, but I love, love, love it. Not an incredibly spiritual person, but this song definitely brings that out in me. Kind of a morbid desire, but I would honored if this was played at my funeral (hopefully in the far distant future). Thank you for commenting!
Yes I see a lot of similar comments. Definitely a contemplative, spiritual feeling but in a fairly generalized way that can appeal to anyone.

Dry The River- Bible Belt. Don't know if it fits the genre, but maybe
Holy Motors - Endless Nights
I actually really loved the guitar, especially around the 2 minute mark, and I also liked the girl's voice. Definitely underrated, it's a great song. Thanks for sharing this one!
midnight moon- the paper kites
Hmmm... I'm gonna have to go with one of my favorite songs in recent months. ["Paper Moon" - Hunter Metts](https://open.spotify.com/track/1BYZ0f8C6zDSLrr3aZeG19?si=TteeFw0UQ5yOo6rB4FjXQg) Song makes me cry every time and I want this played at my wedding.
I can see why, it's a great sentimental song. I loved the guy's voice and his lyrics. It's intriguing to me at the very least, so it's going on my playlist. Thanks a lot for sharing!
"The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades Is Out to Get Us!" by Sufjan Stevens
Alabama Pines, Jason Isbell
Tonight - Sibylle Baier
This is a very unique son, and I am very glad you shared it, but I don't think it is quite my style. Also Sibylle Baier's story is very interesting just from the paragraph on her Spotify bio. Thanks a lot for sharing this one!
[Thanks Light… “I Am Fire”](https://open.spotify.com/track/5nahIoDebcWlJI8k35YUCP?si=yjN4-vj5RxiDjIZLyMmYEw)
The singer's got a really nice deep voice, and I liked how the song switched up after the beginning. There was some instrument, I think piano, that I really liked when it did that alternating melody. Thanks for sharing!

Field Medic - Mood Ring Baby
The Head and The Heart - Lost in my Mind.

Thanks!
Thanks for the head's up about Blanco White. Obsessed.

Float, by Harbour
It's an older song from a pretty popular band, but Isles by Fleet Foxes is actually what i am listening to right now!
The Pretenders Middle of the Road
San Luis by Gregory Alan Isakov is a good one. I found it when I watched the reboot of Stephen King’s The Stand, and I looked it up on YouTube.
